Valbchek scoops Millions pot
18 Apr 2012

Jeremy Noseda seems to have always harboured grand ambitions for Valbchek and they moved a little closer to reality as his colt held on in the £150,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint.

Sent off at long odds-on on his recent debut at Lingfield, where he won but looked patently inexperienced, Valbchek was well-backed again here in a far more competitive event.

The 100-30 joint-favourite was pushed through to lead over a furlong out but was instantly pressed on the wide outside by Swiss Spirit, leaving Valbchek looking as if he might be passed, but he pulled out half a length more for Ryan Moore.

"I'm delighted - we sent him to Lingfield to get in a run at six furlongs with an eye on coming here so it's great when a plan comes to fruition," said Noseda.

"An obvious next race might be the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury before Lockinge day. I thought he might be a Jersey Stakes horse, but we've got a bit of time to decide if he'll get a bit further."

It did not sound as if Sir Henry Cecil will get too carried away with Stipulate's prospects but there was much to like about how the 8-1 chance flew clear in the Blue Square Feilden Stakes.

Most of the master trainer's recent winners of the race, like Legal Bid, Cicerao and Storm Trooper do not trip off the tongue and Cecil said: "He was weak last year and a bit fresh, but he did it very nicely. He might be one for something like the Dee Stakes."
