NEIL’S PRIDE (Nottingham 4.40) was selected in this column when she last ran, but it’s been a long wait for her next run as that latest effort came last July. Her handicap mark is based on three efforts in sprint maidens last year, and she gave the impression there was plenty to build on when third on that handicap debut over 7f, staying on from a long way back. Her pedigree suggests there will be improvement over this trip and beyond this season – trainer Richard Fahey also trained her dam, Collette’s Choice, whose two wins came over 1m4f and 1m6f, and Fahey’s record with horses making their seasonal reappearance at this time of the year is excellent (stable’s horses returning from 100+ days’ absence from 2008-12 in March and April are 42-217, +105.55, with one 25-1 winner, one 20-1 winner and the remaining 40 winners all under 20-1, so the figures are not skewed by a big-priced winner).

At Lingfield (4.50) TIGERS TALE might be worth chancing on his reappearance. He shaped with a bit of promise on a number of occasions last year, and two of his best performances came in his two starts on Polytrack, when ridden by James Doyle on each occasion. This doesn’t look an especially strong race, the fitting of the visor suggests Tigers Tale might be ready to do himself justice first time out and a repeat of his previous Polytrack form would see him thereabouts.
