Eyecatchers (21 February)

Alan has shortlisted five of the most taking National Hunt performances from the past week to add to your ATR Tracker. Niceonefrankie (2-1) was a winner at Leicester on Thursday after being highlighted in last week's column.

WELCOME to our new Eyecatchers column. Every week Alan Thomson will be pinpointing horses primed to strike in the next few weeks, if not days. Remember, you can add Alan's weekly updates to your ATR Tracker.

CAHERONAUN ATR Tracker
(Fairyhouse, February 15)
Followed-up her course victory over 2m 4f in January with another sterling effort over three miles, chasing home Willie Mullins' decent handicapper Vast Consumption. There was a yawning gap back to the third horse and Dessie Hughes can place his improving mare to advantage in the weeks ahead.

SUPER DUTY ATR Tracker
(Ascot, February 18)
Surely one of the gamest novice hurdlers in training after his tenacious victory over Keys, conceding this smart ex-Flat handicapper 8lb. Donald McCain's six-year-old also paid a handsome compliment to Nuts N Bolts, an Ayr winner in January after Super Duty crashed out at the last flight when locked in a duel with Lucinda Russell's talented youngster.

BOURNE ATR Tracker
(Ascot, February 18)
Put a field of smart handicappers in their place with a useful turn of foot from the last. The step up to 2m 4f clearly suited Donald McCain's gelding, who often ran well in middle-distance Flat handicaps for Luca Cumani (runner-up in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock). The hurly-burly of big fields plays to Bourne's strengths, as he likes plenty of cover, attacking off a strong gallop.

RIVER MAIGUE ATR Tracker
(Ascot, February 18)
Sent off favourite for what appeared a strong bumper but his backers realised their fate when Nicky Henderson's gelding refused to settle through his early paces. Did very well to stick on for third and will surely have learned for this experience.

DEFY LOGIC ATR Tracker
(Navan, February 19)
Running in the Magnier silks, Defy Logic was only worn down inside the final furlong by warm favourite Sizing Gold in what looked an above-average bumper. This five-year-old Flemensfirth gelding, in the care of Paul Nolan, looks a sure-fire winner-in-waiting, especially when professionally-ridden.
