A 30-runner maiden hurdle provides punters with a tough puzzle to solve in the opener. A speculative vote goes the way of SANTIAGO DE CUBA, who struck on debut in a Killarney bumper, ran well over the same track and trip last time and is expected to know his job now debuting over obstacles. 103-rated Flat performer Edelpour is an interesting recruit to this sphere, while there may be better to come from Mengli Khan, who was fourth in a Grade 3 hurdle at Fairyhouse in the spring.
A huge field has assembled, but only a handful count, with SANTIAGO DE CUBA perhaps the pick as he quickly reached a useful standard in bumpers this summer and is bred to excel over obstacles. Mengli Khan sets a pretty good standard and can do better given his Flat form, while it will be interesting to see how much ability Edelpour retains.
