Richard Hannon holds a strong hand here with The Paddocks and Pirate, who was only beaten a short-head over this trip at Nottingham last time. However, it could be William Jarvis who holds the ace in the pack with his Bath winner MICHAELS CHOICE. Despite being hit with a 7lb rise for that cosy victory over five and a half furlongs, the War Command colt can reverse form with Astronaut who was two and a half lengths ahead of the selection when winning at Sandown but disappointed at Haydock last time and has a few questions to answer stepping back up in trip.
MICHAELS CHOICE justified market support when making a winning nursery debut at Bath and, with the distinct possibility of more to come from this colt, a 7 lb rise may not be enough to anchor him. He was behind Astronaut at Sandown in September, but appears to have improved since and may have most to fear from Isaan Queen, who did the job well at Yarmouth last month. Pirate also merits respect.
