Kelso

A track that has really developed in recent years and stages some very competitive racing, notably the Morebattle Hurdle in January and the Borders National in March. Kelso effectively has two tracks, an undulating chase course and a tighter hurdles course which is about 2f less in circumference.

With a run-in almost as long as that of the Grand National course, races can change dramatically after the last fence here, especially as runners tend to go very fast and need to stay every yard.

Directions

By road
Situated on the outskirts of Kelso, which can be found off the A698 and is served by the A68 and A7 from Edinburgh and the A699 from the west. Travelling north from Newcastle the easiest route to take is the A697 and then turn left onto the A698. From Carlisle the best choice is to follow the A7 and then join the A698 at Hawick. Departing from Edinburgh the A68 and then onto the A698 is the preferred route.
By rail
The nearest railway station is in Berwick-upon-Tweed, 22 miles away on the Kings Cross line out of London. There are no special buses to the course from the station, only a limited public service so racegoers are advised to pre-book a taxi for both legs of their journey.
