SECTIONAL TIMES ON ATTHERACES.COM

ARC and Total Performance Data have joined together to provide Sectional Timing data for ARC’s four all-weather racecourses – Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Southwell and Wolverhampton - plus the turf tracks at Doncaster, Lingfield and Windsor.

From the start of the 2016-17 All-Weather Championships Season this data will be available within 48 hours of each race here on attheraces.com. To give users a sense of what is to come we've added the times for the seven races from the 2016 All-Weather Championships Finals Day.

Sectional Times enable users to view the time it has taken a horse to cover a sectional (such as a furlong) during a race. They can be used to illustrate how a race was run in terms of pace at different stages and also how each individual horse distributed its energy throughout a race by running comparatively fast or slow sectionals.

Advances in tracking technology now mean that the timing is being taken multiple times per second so that far more than just speed between points can and will be offered.

Up until now, Sectional Times have often been presented as a grid of raw data; something which is invaluable to those with a professional understanding, but which to many punters is very hard to break down and utilise as part of overall form study.

Now, for the first time, attheraces.com has made Sectional Times easy to interpret and apply for the average user whilst at the same time publishing them in an easy-to-manipulate format for the expert.

We have developed a range of colour-coded tools and charts that enable users to assess the overall pace of the race and see how the horse raced in comparison to optimum times. There's also energy distribution charts, efficiency gradings and sectional speeds in MPH for the early, mid and late parts of the race for every runner. Visit our guide on how to use the ATR Sectional Times.

ABOUT TOTAL PERFORMANCE DATA

Technology and data continually bring new insights into the great world of sport. Racing is somewhat of an exception with only occasional use of new technologies for the major festivals. The unique challenge of fast moving thoroughbreds is perhaps a barrier to investment. Or, is it because the beautiful majesty of a racehorse in full flight speaks for itself? Whatever your viewpoint Total Performance Data (TPD) came together as a team of people with the passion and skills to introduce new technology that aims to enhance interest in the sport whatever your taste. In conjunction with Arena Racing Company and the All-Weather Championships, TPD will be providing sectional timing data through the use of sophisticated on-horse GPS tracking. HOW THE TIMES ARE GENERATED

The times published on attheraces.com are generated by Total Performance Data (TPD). Each horse carries a transponder within it’s saddle cloth which transmits its location throughout the race. TPD have mapped each course so that the times are as accurate as possible. Benchmarked against the current photo finish system the data is accurate to just under 0.1s. More information is available upon request from www.totalperformancedata.com.
