David Pipe took this contest last season with Dell Arca and holds leading claims once again with 2015 Champion Bumper winner Moon Racer, who is just 3lb higher than when successful at Ayr in the spring and a campaign at three miles this term appears an interesting move for a horse with plenty of speed. Wait For Me was back in third in that Cheltenham Festival contest three years ago and he forms one half of a strong Philip Hobbs duo here, with Richard Johnson choosing stablemate Who's My Jockey, who is related to Hurricane Fly and may not have peaked just yet. Pilansberg and Rio Quinto both showed useful form as novices and make their first outings following wind surgery, while Jersey Bean was not stopping at the finish when scoring over 2m4f at Market Rasen and has to be considered on his first attempt at this distance. However, it has been hard not to be impressed with the way READY AND ABLE has racked up a three-timer and after reappearing as good as ever at Aintree when winning cosily last month, he arrives here 9lb well-in having escaped a penalty for that win in a race exclusive for conditional jockeys.
A means to an end for some in this qualifier, but READY AND ABLE completed the hat-trick at Aintree on recent return from a break (likely to prove strong form), and given he can race from the same mark, his claims are obvious. Jersey Bean isn't really crying out for 3m but he's a definite threat if seeing it out, with Ocean Cove another to consider.
