Won this in 2012. Only showed his form on a few occasions last season, 3¾ lengths behind Soie d'Leau final start at Doncaster. Not getting any younger, so may just need this.

Better than ever for this yard last season, winning at York in May, but putting up several solid efforts in defeat thereafter. Goes off career-high mark back in a handicap on return.

Looked more or less as good as ever as he resumed winning ways at Southwell in January. Not seen to best effect at Lingfield last time, but would likely prefer some cut in the ground back on turf.

Progressive sprint handicapper in 2015, though struggled in more competitive events last season. On a fair mark back in a handicap if ready to go on return. Has gone well fresh in the past.

Has been kept busy over the winter on AW, hitting the frame a few times in useful handicaps. Has been placed off similar marks before and another bold bid expected for in-form yard.

Took form to a new level last season, winning 3 times in all, including final start at Doncaster in October. A tough, genuine and consistent sort who merits respect.

Upwardly mobile for William Knight last season, winning a couple of sprint handicaps. Easy to excuse final start in listed event in November, and should have more to offer for new yard this campaign.

Lady Macapa Score: 320

Verdict

Mick Easterby has started the turf Flat season in fine form and he is a rare visitor to the Berkshire track so Bowson Fred has to be respected if allowed an easy lead early on, while Soie D'leau is another northern raider who deserves respect after his impressive win in a valuable Doncaster handicap in October last year. The latter certainly has more scope for progress but might find DOUBLE UP too hot to handle. Roger Varian's gelding was expensive to follow last season but could get a nice toe into this contest under Silvestre De Sousa and fresh might be a good time to catch him.

Verdict

LADY MACAPA was progressive in sprint handicaps for William Knight last season, but still appeals as being at the right end of the handicap, so is taken to make a winning return for a yard among the winners. Double Up can go well fresh and looks a big danger, while better can be expected from Sir Robert Cheval this season.
