Went agonisingly close to ending the drought at Wincanton (15.3f) 2 start back, edged out by an unexposed one. Subsequent third there was a fair display but he faces a number of low-mileage types here

Has looked a work in progress in maiden/novice hurdles, showing ability whilst not helping himself by pulling hard. Still, a well-run handicap promises to suit on that evidence and he's of interest.

Fair in bumpers and not without promise over hurdles during the spring up to 21f. Undoubtedly remains with untapped potential now attentions are switched to handicaps on back of wind surgery.

Verdict

DJIN CONTI improved for good ground when successful at Wincanton in May and the five-year-old from Harry Whittington's burgeoning string can build on that victory off what could be a lenient opening handicap mark. Mick Thonic was rated in the mid 130's at his best over fences and warrants respect off this much lower hurdles rating with a 10lb conditional aboard, while Finley's Eyes is another handicap debutant who has shown a decent level of form in novice contests and represents a top team.

Verdict

FINLEY'S EYES has shown ability whilst doing plenty wrong in maiden/novice hurdles, hard pulling largely proving his undoing. However, he's in good hands and a well-run 2m handicap promises to suit the son of Beneficial and he gets the nod with better to come. Djin Conti, Peterborough and In The Pipeline are a trio of others to consider.
