Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 7 in minor event at Chepstow (6.1f, good) on debut 28 days ago. Open to improvement, although already shapes as if needing further.

Verdict

DIRTY RASCAL shaped with plenty of promise when second over this trip on debut at Windsor and is expected to take a forward step now he has the benefit of that initial run behind him. The main danger may be John Gosden's debutant Marhaba Milliar, who is half-brother to Group 2-winning sprinter Queen Kindly. Roger Varian can ready a newcomer so any money for his 125,000gns recruit, Enough Already, would also be notable.

Verdict

DIRTY RASCAL posted fairly-useful form when runner-up on his Windsor debut last month and can be expected to progress from that effort. He is taken to open his account. The newcomers are likely to provide the biggest threat, with Marhaba Milliar and Enough Already of particular interest.

Lightly-raced maiden who wasn't seen to best effect when third of 9 on nursery debut at Chelmsford City (6f) 6 days ago, left poorly placed. Not out of things.

Verdict

Mark Johnston has won the last two renewals of this contest with Montataire and Rufus King and the Middleham maestro has a live chance of completing a hat-trick with I AM A DREAMER. The selection won back-to-back 6f sprints at York earlier in the season and although he struggled in the Coventry, finishing over 10 lengths behind the impressive winner Calyx, his latest handicap effort at Chelmsford, when runner-up over 6f, confirmed he's back on track. Unexposed novice winners James Watt and Semoum look best of the rest.

Verdict

It's hard to look past SEMOUM, who upped his form a notch when making all at Ripon last month and likely has more to give now switched to handicapping. James Watt has his sights lowered after finishing well held at Royal Ascot last time and rates the principal danger.

Won twice (at up to 16f) last summer and shaped encouragingly when staying-on third in handicap at Salisbury (14.2f, good to firm) on return 16 days ago. One for the shortlist.

Verdict

A wide-open contest in which it may be worth chancing HAWKERLAND, who shaped encouragingly when third on his seasonal return over 1m6f at Salisbury and has since been dropped 2lb, putting him only 3lb higher than when scoring over 2m at Chepstow last season. White Desert and Star Of The East are respected now dropping back from 2m4f and 2m respectively, while the consistent Alqamar and C'Est No Mour, the latter of whom is stepping up from 1m4f, also merit consideration.

Verdict

The extreme test seemed too much for WHITE DESERT here last time and he is better judged on his Wolverhampton victory over this trip previously. He can return to winning ways. Hawkerland is feared most after shaping well on his return at Salisbury, whilst Alqamar is also respected.

Off the mark with narrow victory in 5-runner handicap at Beverley (12.1f, good) 24 days ago. 3 lb rise fair and remains open to improvement.

Verdict

White Chocolate drops back in trip after rattling the crossbar over 1m6f at Chelmsford and could feasibly finish on the premises, though preference is instead for DOWAYLA, who was beaten by under a length off this mark at Ripon over 1m1f last time and is a potential improver now stepped up to 1m4f. In receipt of weight-for-age from the aforementioned pair, Andrew Balding's thriving three-year-old Maid Up looks best of the rest.

Verdict

MAID UP is really on a roll at present, landing back-to back handicaps in the space of a fortnight last month. We may not have seen the best of her yet and she is fancied to complete the hat-trick. Phantasmic is also on the up and looks the most likely danger.

Raised his game when opening turf account at Windsor (6f) in May and better than result (caught wide) when mid-division in big field at York since. Likely he's still in good form.

Raised his game when opening turf account at Windsor (6f) in May and better than result (caught wide) when mid-division in big field at York since. Likely he's still in good form.

Verdict

HOW FAR backed up his classified stakes success at Windsor with a handicap debut victory at Nottingham and although a 6lb rise will obviously make life tougher, this progressive colt is fancied to complete the hat-trick. Only Spoofing has been a revelation for Jedd O'Keeffe this season, winning three times, and warrants plenty of respect following a cracking effort in a valuable handicap at the Curragh, while Miracle of Medinah can't be ruled out having gone close off this mark over C&D two starts ago.

Verdict

HOW FAR looks very progressive and is taken to complete the hat-trick. Only Spoofing is another who is heading in the right direction and should go well again, while fellow northern raider Normandy Barriere has a solid record here and is back on a winning mark.

Justified favouritism with a bit to spare in Chelmsford novice last July. Ran as if amiss in Salisbury listed the following month and hasn't been seen since. Got to be a chance he'll need this.

Verdict

Ode To Autumn put in a career best on turf last time but isn't the most straightforward of types, while Simpson found the Britannia at Royal Ascot too overbearing three weeks ago and should appreciate these much calmer shores. Racing Country did it well at Newmarket last time but doesn't look easy to place off his handicap mark, and this can go the way of SIMPLY BREATHLESS. She is 3-9 in her career so far and remains unexposed over a mile on quick ground.

Verdict

A tight 3-y-o contest. SIMPSON has contested some top-end handicaps of late and might be worth chancing with his sights lowered slightly. The thriving Hateya and John Gosden's Ode To Autumn rate a couple of obvious threats, while Kitaabaat faded on his Newmarket reappearance but retains plenty of potential back from a short break.

Verdict

APEX KING was unlucky to bump into a lesser-exposed rival at Kempton earlier this month but could make amends here. The course winner looks open to improvement on just his second run for Richard Hughes, and the four-year-old remains on a workable handicap mark of 80 for the Lambourn-based trainer. Dark Alliance has won four times on the all-weather this term but the assessor looks to have his measure, while Majestic Moon goes well at this time of year and is also noted.

Verdict

APEX KING has the potential to build on a good start for new trainer Richard Hughes at Kempton last week and is preferred to last month's Windsor scorer Shadow Warrior. Last month's Yarmouth runner-up Majestic Moon and Tony Carroll's Poetic Force also make the shortlist.
