Fairly useful on the Flat for Mark Johnston who showed more second time up over hurdles when fifth of 8 at Worcester (20f) last week. May do better again when switching to handicaps.

Verdict

AARDWOLF found improvement back on better ground when second at Market Rasen last time out and has been found a nice opening to strike here by connections. The former Mark Johnston-trained Flat performer was second only to a rejuvenated mare on that occasion and looks the one to be on here. Swashbuckle looks best of the two Donald McCain runners on jockey bookings, while Crumpledandcreased needs a market check on stable debut for Olly Murphy.

Verdict

SWASHBUCKLE failed to progress last time, but he's worth another chance on the pick of his form in first-time blinkers. Fort Jefferson and Aardwolf look the other key players.

Finally shed her maiden tag in a C&D novice handicap chase last month, not needing to improve. Seemingly undone by 5 lb rise in weights at Uttoxeter next time, but record here solid enough.

Verdict

Course and distance winner SAN PIETRO arrives here on a career-low mark and could have too much for this field now back up in distance and on better ground. He represents a trainer with a fine record here and can strike at the expense of Boyfromnowhere, who produces his better efforts over further, and Midnight Mustang, who did it well at Market Rasen last time but isn't an obvious candidate to follow up.

Verdict

A winner over C&D in April, HEAVENLY PROMISE again ran well when fourth at Uttoxeter 2 weeks ago, and with her record at this venue a fairly solid one, she could well be worth chancing to resume winning ways. Pray For A Rainbow has been in decent nick over hurdles and could well translate that on just his second chase try. San Pietro and Midnight Mustang can also feature.

Lightly-raced maiden over hurdles who ran respectably when fourth at Musselburgh (15.5f) in December. Indifferent efforts have followed on the level, though.

Verdict

PERCY STREET was far from disgraced when fourth in a valuable Haydock handicap back in March and has been found a winnable opening here by Nicky Henderson. This decent ground promises to suit the five-year-old and he can take advantage of a fair mark of 112. Multiple Flat winner Innocent Touch continues to learn his trade over hurdles, while Equus Millar beat a decent yardstick at Ludlow last time and should be competitive despite an 8lb rise.

Verdict

It's safe to assume ATLANTIC STORM had underfoot conditions against him during the midst of winter, and with his best effort having come over C&D on this ground last spring, he could be worth chancing to cash in from a much-reduced mark. Unexposed Equus Millar and Innocent Touch can give Dan Skelton's 6-y-o most to do.

Lightly raced for age and continually shaped better than the result (including at this track) over fences last summer, so interesting to see if things click following a 9-month absence.

Verdict

MIDNIGHT WALK ran well on her most recent outing at Sedgefield when third behind Oak Vintage and the step back up in trip is likely to suit Donald McCain's mare with her last run over a similar trip resulting in a win. Road To Rome was third behind Kapcorse over C&D last month and can prove competitive off the same mark, while Foundation Man is capable on his day and is fairly treated on old form.

Verdict

ROAD TO ROME didn't quite get home having travelled superbly over C&D last time, but that was on good to soft ground and this quicker surface should place the emphasis more on speed, so he's taken to shed his maiden tag. There are several well-treated rivals in opposition, the most notable of them According To Harry and Zolfo.

Verdict

STICK TO THE PLAN acquitted himself well in handicap hurdles throughout last season and looks likely to progress now going over fences for the first time. The step back up to 3m should also suit the son of Gold Well. Loch Linnhe got off the mark on his chasing debut at Hexham earlier in the month and is respected now switching to handicap company, while One Forty Seven ran well last time at Huntingdon and has more to offer now chasing.

Verdict

An interesting race of its type with the narrow vote in favour of LOCH LINNHE. He showed a willing attitude under pressure to make a winning debut over fences at Hexham recently, and the return to this longer trip promises to be right up his street. Stick To The Plan is most intriguing of the chase debutants and feared most, ahead of easy-Huntingdon scorer Coeur Pensif.

Verdict

OFCOURSEIWILL has finished second on his last two outings, both at this venue, and having shown plenty of promise over the track and trip last time, is backed to get off the mark from the same rating, with Donald McCain's new retained rider Brian Hughes now in the plate. Dr Dunraven seemed to have appreciated a wind op when much improved last time, while a tongue-tie could revive the fortunes of both Calarules and Uncle Percy.

Verdict

OFCOURSEIWILL gave a very good account of himself when runner-up in a C&D contest on last month's handicap bow and he's fancied to go close from the same mark. Dr Dunraven and Calarules head the opposition.
