Verdict

HARGAM has failed to reach the heights anticipated when third in the 2015 Triumph Hurdle and was not overly fluent when runner-up to Space Oddity on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter. Hopefully, he'll have benefitted notably from that experience and his class can deliver a first chasing success here. Crin Au Vent has yet to sparkle since joining Paul Nicholls but it's early days and Lofgren cannot be ignored as he's far more experienced over fences than his rivals.

Verdict

HARGAM became somewhat disappointing over hurdles earlier this year, but did at least go some way to stopping the rot when second on chase debut at Uttoxeter recently. He shades the vote, with Crin Au Vent feared most.

Well held in bumper/both starts in novice hurdles so far this spring.

Verdict

The rampant form of the Skelton operation is there for all to see and LIEUTENANT GRUBER looks another one for the yard. His good third in a well-contested novice hurdle at Cheltenham behind Pingshou represents the stand-out form here and there should be no fitness issues despite an absence of over five months. Newera has some fair form over timber to his name and looks the danger with Kelso third Jardin Des Plantes also respected.

Verdict

It's feasible to think LIEUTENANT GRUBER has been kept away from the winter ground, and there was no getting away from the promise he showed when third in a Cheltenham novice event late last year (behind subsequent Grade 1 winner Pingshou). He's open to improvement and looks the one to be with. Newera may have needed his Warwick run 3 weeks ago and is next best.

Yet to make an impact over hurdles.

Verdict

Midnight Walk is the only C&D winner in the line-up, having scored here when last seen just under a month ago. Lorcan Murtagh claims a very useful 7lb but they face a tough task in conceding weight to TOO MANY DIAMONDS. The gelding seems to have been revitalised by the move to the Dan Skelton yard and is taken to land a quick-fire hat-trick, having cruised home at both Plumpton and Sedgefield. Blue April and Faction look next best.

Verdict

TOO MANY DIAMONDS scored with any amount in hand at Sedgefield on Tuesday and he'll surely complete a hat-trick if able to cope with 3 outings in quick succession. Midnight Walk won readily on his C&D handicap debut 4 weeks ago and looks the obvious one for the forecast spot.

Verdict

SONNEOFPRESENTING has a hefty burden to deal with as he returns to action for his first start since last autumn. Hopefully the market will flag up his readiness for action and he could well be good enough here as he remains open to considerable progression over the larger obstacles. He would not be suited by any softening of conditions, though. The Clock Leary and Lord Ben both continue to deliver a consistent account and are shortlisted alongside Thoonvolla.

Verdict

THE CLOCK LEARY is threatening to come good for his new yard, going like the best horse at the weights before seemingly undone by the longer trip at Wetherby last time, and this shorter trip is much more in his favour. Thoonavolla is feared most ahead of Lord Ben.

Fair Flat winner last year but has offered little both hurdles starts in 2017.

Verdict

DERINTOHER YANK is proving a good servant for Donald McCain since joining the yard from Ireland and may have just needed the run when tiring late on the last day. He should be spot-on now and is taken to land a third success in six starts for his new connections with Will Kennedy expected to adopt forcing tactics. Asum remains a definite improver and rates a potent threat in receipt of 3lb, while Lord Huntingdon is also worthy of attention.

Verdict

ASUM looked more tractable sporting a hood and was closing in second when falling at Stratford last month. Assuming he's none the worse for that, he can gain compensation from 3 lb higher. Zenafire is pretty consistent at this level, with Derintoher Yank another threat if he's on a "going" day mentally.

Verdict

The Last Bridge has hit a rich vein of form of late and will surely be in the mix despite a 6lb rise for his latest success. There's every chance he'll go in again but DESERT STING is an interesting opponent who just gets the nod. A useful pointer, he won pretty sweetly when scoring under Rules at Stratford this month and could well have more to offer over fences. Court Dismissed and Irish Thistle should also get involved.

Verdict

DESERT STING has done really well on the point-to-point circuit this year, scoring 3 times, and justified support when successful on his chasing bow at Stratford earlier this month. The handicapper has had a say since but he is taken to follow up nonetheless. The Last Bridge and Irish Thistle can fight it out for the minor honours.

Midnight Legend filly. Dam unraced. Hooded and effort flattened out on recent Towcester debut. Should last longer this time.

Verdict

Schiaparannie scored well enough at Hexham but this rates a tougher assignment, especially under her penalty. Rose Of Cimarron and Papagana both represent yards well capable of readying one for a bumper and must be tracked in the market, while Lostnfound should progress from a satisfactory Wetherby debut. However, GRANIA O'MALLEY has shaped with real promise when runner-up on both bumper starts and a repeat of either run would see her go very close here. She is not ground dependant.

Verdict

GRANIA O'MALLEY certainly wasn't seen to best effect in a farcically-run contest at Cheltenham last month so the fact she finished second is testament to her ability, and she is very much the one to beat. Schiaparannie was impressive at Hexham and should give it a good go under a penalty, with Rose of Cimarron an interesting newcomer.
