Career best when winning 8-runner handicap at this C&D (firm, 2/1) 13 days ago, helped by being held up in strongly-run race. 5 lb rise tolerable and he has to be feared.

Verdict

Eve Johnson Houghton inmate PONDERING was eased down near the finish when scoring over 1m2f at Lingfield last time out and is expected to remain competitive now stepped up in trip as she bids to shake off a 4lb rise. On the back of his convincing track and trip victory earlier in the month Plato's Kode is considered the main danger to the selection, ahead of fellow three-year-olds Pete So High and Cubswin.

Verdict

PONDERING appeared to win with plenty left up her sleeve at Lingfield and, with the quicker ground and step back up in trip here unlikely to be problematic, she is taken to strike again. Plato's Kode was also a decisive winner last time but a bigger threat may be posed by Cubswin, who shaped well on handicap bow at Newmarket 2 starts back and should have a race in her off this sort of mark.

Last of 14 in handicap at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm, 66/1) 34 days ago. 6 lb 'wrong' at the weights and it's best to look elsewhere.

Verdict

BELLA ALISSA ran on well at the finish when landing a 5f maiden here last month and is expected to improve for this extra yardage and give a good account off an opening mark of 70 now sent handicapping. Coronation Cottage was touched off by just a neck off 2lb lower at Salisbury on her penultimate outing and has place possibilities, likewise Island Cloud, who bounced back to form with a solid performance at Windsor last month.

Verdict

The least exposed of these and on a fair-looking opening mark, BELLA ALISSA makes most appeal having landed a maiden here in fairly decisive fashion last month. Evening Starlight wasn't beaten far when third over C&D off a 3 lb higher mark last season and a reproduction of that form would give her solid each-way claims. Coronation Cottage and Island Cloud should both be on the premises, too.

Verdict

AQUADABRA was only narrowly beaten at this track last time out and sets the form standard for the rest to aim at. June Dog bounced back from a lacklustre showing in the Windsor Castle when fourth at Haydock on his nursery bow and appears weighted to give another good account. The pick of the remainder may be Autumn Lodge, though he was behind Dreamboat Annie when second over C&D in June.

Verdict

The drop back to the minimum trip will suit JUNE DOG, who travelled well for much of the journey when fourth in 6f Haydock nursery 12 days ago, beaten just over a length. He makes plenty of appeal off the same mark. The consistent Aquadabra should again be involved and Laura Knight can be expected to improve now pitched into a nursery. Hastenplace is also worth a second look.

C&D winner. Latest win here in April. Good second of 6 in handicap at Brighton (5.3f, good to firm, 2/1) 21 days ago, never nearer. Major player.

Verdict

Super Julius remains firmly on the upgrade and deserves plenty of respect in this company, though he was beaten at Windsor on Monday, while connections of Open Wide try a new headgear combination in an attempt to unlock improvement from their charge. Tomily is consistent but this can go the way of YALAWIN, who drops in class after finding a talented sprinter too good at Windsor last time. Conditions should suit and a mark of 89 could still underestimate the three-year-old.

Verdict

Compensation awaits MR POCKET, who has encountered traffic problems and only narrowly failed on his last 2 starts. Paul Cole's charge dead-heated with the progressive Goodwood Crusader over C&D in April and again has his ideal conditions. Yalawin lost little caste in defeat when runner-up on handicap bow at Windsor and this unexposed colt is a much-respected main danger. Tomily also has claims.

Verdict

GO AMBER GO returned to the sort of early season form that saw her claim back-to-back victories in April when second at Chepstow three weeks ago and perhaps a return to a venue where she has had success in the past can spark her back to winning ways. Babyfact is another who usually saves her best for this venue and the forecast firm ground should suit, while first-time cheekpieces could spark a revival from William Muir's Secret Agent.

Verdict

A case can be made for each member of the quintet, but ARCHIMEDES boasts the most solid claims on the back of a fine effort in 0-75 company at Doncaster last week. He's 2 lb lower now and while his long losing run on turf is a slight concern, he makes plenty of appeal otherwise. The 3-y-o Secret Agent has done nothing wrong this season and rates the main danger ahead of Babyfact.

Verdict

IMPHAL impressed in victory here with first-time cheekpieces proving to be the catalyst for a much-improved display and he can follow up here at a track he clearly likes. He travels well through his races and a 6lb rise might not be enough for the likes of Tenby Two to get the better of him. Londonia remains unexposed in this sphere and remains on a handy mark, while Becca Campbell is another to be interested in.

Verdict

IMPHAL has left his 2-y-o maiden form well behind upped in trip and, switched to handicaps this season, finished runner-up over C&D on return last month prior to going one better back here 3 weeks later. A 6 lb rise looks fair and, with further improvement anticipated, he is taken to follow up. Londonia, who hit the crossbar in a C&D handicap last week, is next best ahead of Becca Campbell.
