It is interesting that Nicky Henderson sends the well-thought-of Pym out nice and early in the jumps season having been tenderly handled by the Seven Barrows master so far. He remains an exciting prospect despite a few defeats in bumpers last season, but Henderson's inmates occasionally need their first outing of the season which tempers enthusiasm, therefore the preference is for DEYRANN DE CARJAC. Alan King's five-year-old was a 20-length winner at Warwick back in May when getting off the mark over timber, and his earlier hurdles appearances, including a third to Kalashnikov on his debut over obstacles at Doncaster, look smart pieces of form. Volcano was well regarded when with Christian Williams and despite seeing the form of his Exeter bumper win reversed by Acey Milan in a Cheltenham Listed race, as well as being beaten out of sight in the Champion Bumper, the young grey should have more to come now hurdling and a return to better ground is a positive. Philip Hobbs has his string in good order and his Warwick bumper winner Umndeni is worthy of a place on the shortlist having beaten the useful Morning Vicar on that first racecourse sighting.
PYM showed useful form in bumpers last season and is taken to make a winning start in this sphere (same connections introduced Altior in this in 2015). Umndeni looked a good prospect when winning a 17-runner bumper at Warwick in April and is feared most ahead of penalised novice winner Deyrann de Carjac.
