Well held in pair of bumpers and easily opposed now hurdling.

Verdict

KING CALVIN looked on good terms with himself when returning to winning ways over 2m4f at Wincanton on what was only his second start under Rules. He's also a dual point scorer and is expected to give a good account of himself here under penalty. Master Tommytucker was off the mark at the first time of asking over the extended 2m2f here in February and looks the main danger ahead of recent Hereford second Applesolutely, who drops back from 3m1f.

Verdict

MASTER TOMMYTUCKER scored in the manner of a useful prospect here in February, and he’s sure to progress provided he stays sound. King Calvin should be suited by this step back up in trip and is open to further improvement, while Applesolutely is another live player on form.

Showed improved form after a break when going down narrowly to a tough one over C&D (heavy) 9 days ago. Lightly raced, and still unexposed as a stayer (first-time cheekpieces here).

Verdict

GARRANE backed up his 3m victory at Taunton with a comfortable victory at Chepstow last time out and there is every chance he can defy a 9lb rise and complete a hat-trick if he returns in anything like the same mood. Albert D'olivate is entitled to step up on a solid second at Warwick last time and is the one expected to put up most resistance, while big runs from Norse Legend and Sandhurst Lad, both of whom attracted support last time out, are also anticipated.

Verdict

BACT TO BLACK went down narrowly only to a tough one over C&D 9 days ago, and provided he handles the quick turnaround there’s every reason to think he can put up another bold show (lightly raced, and still unexposed as a stayer). The hat-trick seeking Garrane commands plenty of respect, with the in-form pair Lerichi Belle and Cheque En Blanc a couple of others to consider.

Won 3 handicap chases on the bounce last season, and suited by step up in trip when scoring over C&D (heavy) in December. Not so good both starts since, though, including back here 2 months ago.

Verdict

WIZARDS BRIDGE knuckled down well to get the better of Leo Luna over 3m2f at Fontwell last time and is expected to remain competitive following a 2lb rise for that head victory. Ballyheigue Bay steps up in trip after landing minor money over the extended 2m7f at Ascot last time and could play a minor role, though the main danger to the selection may be Yanmare, who is only 2lb higher than when striking over track and trip in December.

Verdict

None of these can be ruled out but BALLYHEIGUE BAY has been in good form over hurdles this year and is potentially on a good mark back over fences. Royal Palladium and Krackatoa King head the dangers.

Verdict

CHOIX DES ARMES romped to an easy victory on his handicap debut over 2m at Wincanton last time and is expected to remain competitive now turned out under a penalty. This step up in trip is expected to be a source of immediate improvement for Paul Nicholls' six-year-old. Take A Break appeared to find 2m1f on the sharp side when second at Sedgefield last time and has place claims up in trip, while Drops Of Jupitor, a C&D novice hurdle winner in December, is also weighted to take a hand.

Verdict

It's hard to see past CHOIX DES ARMES who won easily on handicap debut last week and can make light of a 7 lb penalty with further improvement likely. The Brothers has been freshened up since a disappointing run at Kempton and retains potential given his lightly-raced profile, while Tea Time Fred looked set to win until a late unseat last time and can also figure.

Raced 3 times in points, well held in a couple of mares' hurdles in summer 2016. Can only be watched.

Verdict

THE CANNISTER MAN shaped encouragingly when second over this trip at Fontwell last time and should be thereabouts if running to a similar level of form. Lough Ryn may be able to step up on his Huntingdon fourth last time now dropping back in trip and has place possibilities along with L'Auberge Du Bois, who turned in a career-best effort when runner-up at Wincanton last time.

Verdict

Not a particularly strong-looking maiden hurdle and LOUGH RYN should go close if building on his promising run over further at Huntingdon 8 weeks ago. The Cannister Man has shown a lot more since being fitted with a hood and can go well again after his Fontwell second. L'Auberge du Bois is a potential improver having filled the runner-up spot himself on his hurdles debut recently.

Placed on completed start in Irish maiden points but no form in novice chases. Had wind operation since last run in August. Blinkers applied on handicap debut.

Verdict

KAVANAGHS CORNER was not beaten far when finishing second at Leicester last month and Simon Earle's gelding can be supported to go one better from the same mark. Kahdian is another who arrives here on the back of a promising recent effort, while Never Learn cannot be discounted despite having to give plenty of weight to all of his rivals.

Verdict

KAVANAGHS CORNER wouldn't be one to take a short price about given his overall profile, but ran one of his better races when runner-up at Leicester last time and looks the safest option in a contest which may not take much winning. Kahdian and Irish Thistle rate the main dangers.

No better than modest over hurdles in 2015/16 but has fared better in the pointing field since, including a couple of wins this year. Respected on hunter debut under Will Biddick.

Verdict

A tricky race to close the card but the marginal preference is for PALMARIA, who has been a consistent performer between the flags this season. She ran her best race under Rules when finishing third in a novice hurdle here in late 2015 and she should have no problem handling soft ground. Uncle Jimmy was well beaten by the winner at Newbury last time but this race is weaker and he could make the frame once again, while Thereyarsee and Herbert Park also warrant consideration.

Verdict

HERBERT PARK made a winning point debut for this new yard in February and was capable of fairly useful form under Rules for David Pipe last season so he really should be capable of going close in a race like this. Thereyarsee fell too far out to suggest the outcome on his hunter debut a year ago but his point record suggests he should figure prominently here. Palmaria completes the shortlist.
