Verdict

ASCENDANT is hard to oppose given his prolific record since the beginning of 2017. The veteran arrives here having won in this grade twice recently and the first of those victories came over 2m4f at this track back in January. Saucysioux is a threat according to official ratings but she does need to bounce back from a couple of poor efforts. The rest need to improve but Hurricane Rita is the pick of them.

Verdict

ASCENDANT has been prolific at this level of late and looks all set for another win. The shorter trip is a worry for Saucysioux but she's still the one likely to give Johnny Farrelly's charge most to do.

Produced a career best, on debut for Olly Murphy, when winning 9-runner handicap hurdle at Lingfield (23f, heavy) 21 days ago. Switches back to chasing now and is a key player. Cheekpieces back on.

Verdict

AFTER ASPEN won on his debut for this yard over hurdles last month and it would be no surprise to see him to continue to improve. Twenty Eight Guns is an obvious threat having won over C&D last time out and a 5lb rise in the ratings for that success may appears to be on the lenient side. Both of Enjoy Responsibly and Mortens Leam have claims but the latter is marginally the pick of that pair.

Verdict

AFTER ASPEN did well to see off 2 rivals who arrived firmly at the top of their game over hurdles at Lingfield recently, and it would be no surprise to see his excellent yard get more out of him now reverting back to chasing. Recent C&D winner Twenty Eight Guns may emerge as the chief threat.

Third both starts in bumpers for different yards to end 2016. Looked in need of C&D hurdles bow in November and given another break ahead of this.

Verdict

The one that stands out is clearly WEEBILL, who arrives here with an official rating of 123 having made the frame in some very competitive novice/maiden hurdles earlier in the season. A reproduction of his second-placed finish at Warwick last month would make him extremely hard to beat this afternoon. The rest do not inspire too much confidence but Telegraph Place and Wisecracker look the best of them.

Verdict

This looks an excellent opportunity for WEEBILL, who comfortably sets the standard on his achievements over hurdles to date. Wisecracker may prove the forecast play in a very ordinary contest.

Took advantage of a drop in grade when winning 9-runner selling handicap over C&D a month ago. 5 lb rise perfectly fair if she's in the same mood and yard in great form.

Verdict

CANYON CITY has shown some solid form over timber in novice hurdles and looks the one to respect making his handicap debut having ran recently on the Flat at Lingfield. Shining Romeo got back to winning ways on his latest outing at Huntingdon last month and looks one to watch off a 7lb higher mark, while All My Love can prove more competitive here for the Pam Sly team.

Verdict

ALL MY LOVE shaped well up to a point at Doncaster in January, finding 19.4f too much of a test, so back at 2m, she looks interesting representing a yard with a good record at this track. Last-time-out winners Beyeh and Shining Romeo have more to do here, so Smart Talk could emerge as the chief threat.

Verdict

BORDEAUX BILL has won his last two starts including at the start of the month in a jumpers' bumper at Southwell which he was entitled to win being an odds-on favourite. His chase form has been promising so far and it would be a surprise were he not able to land the hat-trick. Potters Legend is well handicapped on the pick of his chase form but his jumping is a huge concern, while What Happens Now has been running well and is respected coming off a break.

Verdict

The strong-travelling WHAT HAPPENS NOW should be well suited to the demands of this course and can notch a fifth win of a most productive campaign. Bordeaux Bill's jumping was more assured at Wetherby and he may provide the main threat ahead of Minella On Line.

Long-standing maiden chaser who is very hard to fancy again from miles out of the weights.

Verdict

WOOD PIGEON never travelled a yard when last seen at Southwell but that could have been due to the quick turnaround of only three days and a longer break between races can make the difference for this C&D winner. Heresmynumber has been running respectably of late and should be thereabouts, while Alpha Indi should get the better of The Society Man in the battle for third place.

Verdict

A 3-day turnaround was probably WOOD PIGEON's undoing at Southwell last month, but he's been given a short break since and is a previous C&D winner, so this looks to be a really good opening. Alpha Indi is likely to improve for the switch to fences (has experience in Irish points) and is second choice.
