Verdict

Poet's Society has been knocking on the door in class 3 company and warrants plenty of respect dropped in grade with Oliver Stammers taking a handy 7lb off his back, while 2016 winner Pastoral Player must enter calculations after finishing third in an Epsom class 2. However, at the weights, slight preference is for POUR LA VICTOIRE. Tony Carroll's charge has been running consistently well, he boasts course-winning form over 6f and will think he's running loose off 8-5.

Verdict

POET'S SOCIETY doesn't look streets ahead of his mark, but he arrives in good form and his uncomplicated style could count for plenty given his rider's lack of experience, so he gets the nod up against a bunch of generally-exposed sorts. Pastoral Player looks ready to win when everything drops right and Qeyaadah also makes some appeal.

Once-raced maiden. 25/1, fifth of 9 in maiden at this C&D (soft) on debut 14 days ago.

Verdict

Nayslayer and Second Collection appear best of those with racecourse experience, with the latter expected to build on her course fifth in the hands of Jim Crowley. However, it could be the newcomers who come to the fore here with Mick Channon's JUNGLE JUICE narrowly preferred over Disco Doris. The handler has been in flying form with his youngsters this year, operating at a 30 percent strike-rate, and this could be another winner for thriving first-season sire Bungle Inthejungle.

Verdict

The trio in front of NAYSLAYER on debut all won their next starts convincingly and this son of a very promising sire is taken to do the same with improvement on the cards. Society Shock is the next best of those with experience, while Jungle Juice represents a stable that has had the bulk of its newcomers ready to go this season.

Latest win at Doncaster in June. Creditable second of 5 in handicap (11/4) at Newmarket (12f, good) 6 days ago, no match for winner. Obvious claims.

Verdict

Despite this being a small field, it is competitive and a case can be made for all four contenders. SHIP OF THE FEN can be forgiven his Epsom performance as he ended up on a part of the track that wasn't ideal and the step up to 1m4f can bring about further improvement. Bartholomeu Dias has some strong form in the book, while the other pair Wax And Wane and Dr Richard Kimble cannot be discounted.

Verdict

This step up in trip promises to suit SHIP OF THE FEN, who improved when landing a Doncaster handicap on return in April and his subsequent effort at Epsom is best excused (looked ill at ease on the track). He remains open to improvement and gets the nod ahead of the consistent Dr Richard Kimble. Bartholomeu Dias also merits respect but Wax And Wane is probably too high in the weights.

Thrice-raced maiden. 25/1, sixth of 12 in minor event at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 46 days ago, needing stiffer test. Significantly up in trip on handicap debut and she's open to progress.

Verdict

All six declared runners look to have some sort of chance, so GATHER receives what can only be a tentative vote. Amanda Perrett's filly showed that she has improved from two to three years when winning her maiden over 1m2f here last month and this further step up in trip could unlock another gear. She is also entitled to strip fitter for that comeback run and might have too much in hand for recent Doncaster winner Maid Up and Leicester second Eden Rose.

Verdict

EDEN ROSE finished well when second to Burgonet at Leicester, form which the winner franked when winning again next time. She should have more to offer and is marginally preferred to Maid Up, who continued her theme of race-by-race progress when scoring at Doncaster recently and, like the selection, is open to improvement. Glitterdust's opening mark looks fair and she also enters calculations.

Verdict

SING OUT LOUD returned to winning ways over 1m1f here last time and is expected to remain competitive now dropping back to a mile as he won over 6f at Brighton in October. Come On Tier kept on well at the finish over the extended 7f at Chester last month and promises to be suited by this extra yardage, while Litigation and Jazeel are both officially well in following good efforts in defeat at Sandown and are others to consider.

Verdict

LITIGATION was a warm order for her handicap debut at Sandown and, while not quite delivering for her backers, she shaped like she's comfortably ahead of the assessor and looks well capable of making amends here. Jazeel is officially well-in following his excellent third at Sandown 8 days ago, and the progressive Sing Out Loud is also considered.

Verdict

SAROOG landed the silver medal for the third race in succession at Catterick last time but rates the one to beat on these terms if running to his official rating. Smashed is going the right way, as is Beer With The Boys, and both runners may improve again now tackling 1m6f for the first time. Any money for John Gosden's Surya would be notable too as he was outpaced over 1m2f at Newbury and may improve for this stiffer test.

Verdict

SURYA has plenty of class in his pedigree and it's likely that his two promising showings to date have only scratched the surface, so he's expected to make further improvement to take this before moving on to bigger things. Beer With The Boys is another with improvement forthcoming and Saroog is the pick in terms of form achieved to date.
