A winner for Sir Michael Stoute in 2015 but needs to prove he retains ability after a tame reappearance from 22 months off here 3 weeks ago. Tongue tie goes on.

Verdict

The Detainee arrives on the back of a disappointing effort over hurdles at Wincanton and although he has won three of his last four Flat starts, FORT JEFFERSON is a strong fancy to see him off. Oliver Greenall's charge has been doing the business in this code and over timber and he won with plenty in hand at Nottingham on Sunday, suggesting that he can defy a 6lb penalty. Archipeligo, whose mark continues to slowly creep down, looks best of the remaining pair.

Verdict

FORT JEFFERSON won easily at Nottingham on Sunday and can follow up under a penalty from The Detainee.

Tough task from 4 lb out of the handicap on belated return to turf.

Verdict

Jabbarockie has done little wrong in three outings so far this year, posting placed efforts at Southwell and Hamilton either side of a Nottingham success, and Eric Alston's versatile gelding looks sure to go close again, but preference is for the unexposed ROMAN RIVER. Silvestre De Sousa's mount had two subsequent winners behind when fourth on his handicap debut over the extended 7f at Doncaster and the speed which he showed that day suggests that this drop back in trip will suit. Iconic Knight, Shepherd's Purse and Patrick are others to note.

Verdict

SHEPHERD'S PURSE is threatening to come good for this yard soon and this could be the race with trip/track likely to suit. Patrick was better than the bare result at Pontefract 3 weeks ago and has been eased another 2 lb, while unexposed 3-y-os Iconic Knight and Roman River may still be improving.

Verdict

CERTAIN LAD made a big impression when winning on his debut over the extended 5f at Redcar and that form has since been franked by the runner-up. He must shoulder a penalty but looks in a different league to the other form runners, and his experience should count for a lot against the newcomers. Of the debutants, 200,000-euro purchase Pablo Escobarr warrants plenty of respect representing the stable that won this contest two years ago, while Drogon is considered for a local yard that love to send out winners here.

Verdict

An intriguing juvenile contest with CERTAIN LAD taken to make it 2 from 2 under a penalty for his impressive Redcar win. All of the newcomers make some appeal, in particular Dombra and Pablo Escobarr.

Won 3 races for this yard last year and should strip fitter for last month's return.

Verdict

VIA VIA drops in class after being severely testing in Listed events and strong handicaps in recent times, and could have too much for these now with his sights lowered. The six-year-old wears first-time blinkers, while this drop in trip back to a mile should also benefit James Tate's charge. Sound Advice couldn't capitalise on a good draw at Chester last time but still has some fair form in the book, while Escobar ran his best race to date for David O'Meara last time and looks to be slowly getting back to his best.

Verdict

ESCOBAR is back in a good groove within 2 starts for this year's yard, going close at Doncaster 2 weeks ago, and he's one to be interested in. Alejandro's winning turn is near judged on his last 2 efforts, while Calvados Spirit won on his reappearance last season and is one to note in the betting starting out for Richard Fahey.

Found plenty of improvement to make it 2-2 in handicaps for Sally Haynes last summer. He remains low-mileage now starting out for new yard but the betting may prove best guide after 9 months off.

Verdict

Rockwood thumped the opposition by nine lengths at Musselburgh 12 days ago but could find a 13lb rise beyond him, despite the presence of Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle. Daawy might have more to offer on just his fourth start for David O'Meara but he looks held on Ripon form behind MOOLTAZEM, who finished ahead of him at that venue when they were second and third last time. The selection looked unlucky not to win that race and looks open to the most improvement.

Verdict

ABEL TASMAN was a good winner of a weaker race than this over C&D last month, yet the manner of that success was convincing enough to suggest he can rate higher still moving forward. Punkawallah may step up returned to better ground though, and he is worth a second look, as is Mooltazem who was a rather unlucky loser at Ripon on his latest outing.

Not disgraced when fifth of 9 in handicap at Hamilton last time, but doesn't appear to be progressing at present.

Verdict

FRENCH FLYER didn't look to be in love with soft ground on reappearance at Doncaster back in April and can probably be forgiven that effort for Michael Dods. His form last season on a sound surface looked relatively strong and the three-year-old can resume his progress from a fair mark of 73. Garden Oasis has shaped well in maiden company and needs a market check on his handicap bow for Sir Michael Stoute, while Institution was unlucky to bump into one at Lingfield last time but did finish well clear of the rest.

Verdict

GARDEN OASIS caught the eye on his return keeping on from a poor position, and he appeals as the sort to take another step forward, especially now upped in trip for handicap debut. Ad Libitum looks to be on a fair mark if his yard can keep him going the right way, while If We Can Can could easily get back on the up in first-time blinkers.
