Once-raced maiden. 200/1 and hooded, fifth of 8 in novice hurdle at Perth (20.2f, good) on NH debut 17 days ago.

Verdict

ARTHUR MAC made a winning debut under Rules in a bumper at Hereford in January and he will find this race to be a lot easier than the Grade 2 he contested on his sole subsequent start at Aintree. Fortunes Hiding is another bumper winner to consider on hurdles debut, while Ain't My Fault and Nine O Three are others to note.

Verdict

Fairly useful bumper winner ARTHUR MAC is bred to come into his own now tackling longer trips over jumps so he receives the vote. Fortunes Hiding and Sheriff Garrett look the other key players.

Consistent sort who is generally thereabouts but has a poor win ratio, so only of interest for each-way purposes.

Verdict

CREADAN GRAE won well on his second start over fences at Perth late last month and he should be hard to beat once again off just 6lb higher in the ratings. Bako De La Saulaie ran well in defeat a few times last season and he could pose the biggest threat to the selection, ahead of Granard and Heart Of Kernow.

Verdict

CREADAN GRAE arrives on the back of a comfortable win at Perth and can follow up. Bako de La Saulaie is a reliable sort who should go well on his reappearance, whilst the lightly-raced Granard is a fascinating contender for a yard that has a good record at this venue.

Verdict

SIMPLY THE BETTS was an easy winner at Warwick when last seen back in May and he may outclass his rivals once again with improvement forthcoming. Ex S'elance won over hurdles in France earlier in the year and he is one to note on his UK debut, while Big Time Dancer and Calach are others who merit places on the shortlist.

Verdict

SIMPLY THE BETTS stands out on form here and cruised home in a Warwick maiden when last seen in May. He should take plenty of beating. Informateur and Ex S'elance may give him most to think about.

Verdict

BORN FOR WAR has hit the crossbar in both previous starts during this campaign and he may be capable of winning this contest having had the benefit of a recent wind operation. Knocknamona ran up a winning sequence last season and he is one to consider on his return to action, while Spinning Scooter also has the ability to make the frame.

Verdict

BORN FOR WAR is easily the least exposed here and, having run well when runner-up on his chasing bow at Stratford in July, he could well be the way to go now partinered by Brian Hughes. Spinning Scooter and Classical Milano can give hm most to think about.

Verdict

SHARP RESPONSE's third behind subsequent Cheltenham Festival winner Mister Whitaker in November last year looked like strong form at the time, and it was pleasing to see Sue Smith's charge end his campaign with a win at Catterick back in February. The seven-year-old has gone well after a break in the past, and could jump this field into submission. Arctic Vodka ran well last season but needs some rain to arrive, while The Hollow Ginge is also noted.

Verdict

SHARP RESPONSE produced a career-best effort when winning over fences at Catterick in February and, given his largely consistent profile, he is fancied to go well back over hurdles. The Hollow Ginge disappointed towards the back end of the campaign but is low mileage and in good hands, so it would come as no surprise to see him get back on the the up.

Verdict

John Williams won this off 7lb lower last year and seemingly goes well fresh, while Take A Break was consistent last season for Nigel Hawke and warrants a market check ahead of his stable debut for Mark Walford. Charlie Snow Angel is better than what he showed last time, but REVERSE THE CHARGE did it well over course and distance four weeks ago and the veteran could be worth following again.

Verdict

TAKE A BREAK isn't the most reliable but he has joined an in-form yard and remains on a competitive mark. Seven Devils shaped as if needing his belated return and should do better now, while John Williams won this race on his reappearance last season and bids to do the same.

Once-raced maiden. Eighth of 12 in bumper at this C&D (good, 40/1) on NH debut 154 days ago, soon off bridle.

Verdict

Get An Oscar has already won a bumper here but was disappointing at Market Rasen last time and might need further now, while Little Rory Mac represents a trainer in good form and showed promise when second in this sphere at Hereford back in April. Creadan Belle needs a market check for Gordon Elliott, but this can go the way of MR SCRUMPY. Third at Market Rasen in the spring and a half-brother to a bumper winner, he could outpace this field and land the spoils.

Verdict

MR SCRUMPY produced a promising first effort when third at Market Rasen in April, leaving the impression he should have finished even closer, and is preferred to Little Rory Mac, who also went close to making a winning debut at Hereford in the spring.
