Slowly but surely got his act together over hurdles, twice a runner-up in handicap hurdles at around 17f in recent weeks. However, he's likely to struggle back in novice company.

Verdict

CORNERSTONE LAD won at Catterick back in January and he was far from disgraced when going down by a nose on his sole subsequent start. The four-year-old has an official rating of 134 and that suggests that he has plenty in hand today. The main threat is the consistent Teescomponents Lad but he is rated 15lb inferior to the selection and has to give him 1lb. The rest inspire little confidence but any market support for Excalibur would have to be noted for this former Flat winner in Poland.

Verdict

CORNERSTONE LAD's second in the Victor Ludorum at Haydock sets the form standard here and he is fancied to resume winning ways. Teescomponents Lad looks the clear forecast pick unless market vibes are positive for Excalibur.

Again set a stiff task from out the weights but did at least confirm previous form when 8 lengths third at Ayr (3m) last week. Back off correct mark here and recent form a positive in this field.

Verdict

The quality of this race is summed up by the fact that these four have had 46 starts under Rules between them and that has produced just one victory for MCGINTY'S DREAM. That success came off a mark of 74 over hurdles last year and recent chase efforts suggest that he can win off a 1lb higher rating today. Nelly La Rue is not one too have too much faith in but she could still prove to be the main danger to the selection. A pair of first-time cheekpieces may bring about some improvement in Ceegem and that can give his supporters some hope.

Verdict

None of these is particularly solid so the percentage call is to side with CEEGEM. Lucinda Russell's charge needs forgiving a lesser effort over hurdles last time, but may well do better now his attentions are switched to chasing. McGinty's Dream and Nelly La Rue can do battle for second.

Verdict

HAUL US IN has been in good form of late and she followed back-to-back second-placed finishes with an easy win at Ayr on Saturday. The six-year-old mare bolted up by 11 lengths on that occasion and a 7lb penalty should not stop her from winning today, as long as she has fully recovered from those exertions. Ollisu Lad did show some encouraging signs last time out and Rinnagree Rosie should not be completely discounted.

Verdict

HAUL US IN never looked in any danger at Ayr on Saturday and now looks more straightforward without headgear, so she is expected to follow up under a penalty. Ollisu Lad should relish this increased test of stamina and is second choice, ahead of Turtle Cask.

Can make mistakes (fell when favourite for this race last year) but stepped up on reappearance to land a valuable prize at Carlisle (3m, soft), and backed that up when runner-up at Ayr next 2 starts.

Verdict

ITSTIMEFORAPINT thrived in similar conditions at Bangor last time and can relish the challenge once again here despite racing from 5lb higher. His Grand National-winning handler is astute at training stayers and there could still be more to come from the ageing chaser. Finaghy Ayr has knocked on the door the last twice, while Portrait King and Millicent Silver are regulars in these type of contests and can get involved.

Verdict

It could be worth chancing PORTRAIT KING, who's far from consistent but his latest third in the Eider at Newcastle was a very respectable effort and he's 5 lb lower in a much less competitive race. Itstimeforapint responded well to blinkers last time and is feared most as he bids to win this for the second time in 3 years.

Verdict

Impressive Sedgefield winner PRINCESS MONONOKE could be the answer here having travelled well for a long way last time at Wetherby. She is not obviously well handicapped but can go well against some exposed rivals today. Henry Oliver's Samarayia should provide the stiffest challenge and has no concerns about the going, while the veteran Catchthemoonlight can also get involved.

Verdict

PRINCESS MONONOKE needs to shrug off a lesser effort at Wetherby on her most recent start, yet she had previously put it all together to forge clear at Sedgefield and could be worth chancing to get back on track. Samarayia is lightly raced and feared, ahead of Catchthemoonlight.

Point winner but just poor form at best over fences.

Point winner but just poor form at best over fences.

Verdict

This can go the way of Brown Trix who was a scorer two starts back at Newcastle and can be forgiven his effort last time when stepped up to three miles. Silverton was much improved last time but the return to heavy ground tempers enthusiasm, while Mr Witmore wasn't far away for Kenny Johnson last time and can get involved once again.

Verdict

ORIONINVERNESS has been lightly raced since winning over this C&D 12 months ago off 2 lb lower and could be worth chancing. Mr Witmore remains a long-standing maiden but he's capable of going close off his current mark, as is Achill Road Boy.

Modest form in bumpers and similar level in his qualifying runs over hurdles, but took a big leap forward when second on handicap bow at Ayr in December. Looked amiss back at that venue a month later.

Verdict

BEHINDTHELINES hammered on the door last time when enjoying the rain-soaked Ayr turf and he is backed to go one better here having shown plenty of potential in the pointing field and in his two Rules appearances. Western Honour wasn't beaten far on his first start for James Moffatt having left Paul Nicholls and could have more to come, with Arctic Vodka capable of leaving his last run well in the past to figure.

Verdict

BEHINDTHELINES has made a solid start to his career under Rules and this appears to be a good opening for him. Western Honour should relish this trip and is the danger.
