Lightly-raced winner in points who offered something to work on sent hurdling over 2m here a fortnight ago. Stiffer test will suit and likely to improve.

Verdict

AYE AYE CHARLIE was touched off on his seasonal return at Aintree and is expected to step up on that effort now sporting first-time cheekpieces. Bodacious Name struck on the Flat twice at Pontefract last month and is expected to step up on his hurdles second at Perth back in May now he has that recent winning form behind him. Starozov and Justadreamyeken would be surprise winners on what they have shown so far.

Verdict

A penalty kick for AYE AYE CHARLIE up in trip. This is much easier than the race he was touched off in at Aintree a fortnight ago and it will be disappointing if he can't get the job done.

Reached frame on all 4 outings in novice hurdles. Showed plenty on Carlisle chasing bow, yet to be asked for effort when all but fell 2 out. Latest effort easily ignored and remains with potential.

Verdict

COOL MIX scored with plenty in hand in a 2m novice hurdle here in January and is expected to step up on his latest effort over an extended 2m3f on his chase bow at Wetherby now dropping back in distance. Aristo Du Plessis enjoyed a productive spell over hurdles last term and is worth a market now returned to the larger obstacles. French recruit Horst is difficult to dismiss on his debut for a new stable and looks a bigger threat than Tayzar, who pulled up at Wetherby last week.

Verdict

Dual hurdles-winner COOL MIX should have benefited from a considerate chasing debut at Wetherby and can strike. Tayzar has had little go right in his short career in this sphere and remains with potential.

Course winner last autumn and added to his tally at Musselburgh in December. Not at best subsequently but mark has fallen and he's entitled to come on for last month's return.

Verdict

Too Many Chiefs has an absence to overcome but makes some appeal on his Ayr victory over an extended 3m in January. A market check is thus recommended, though with a recent outing under his belt, JACK DEVINE shades preference. He shaped as if in need of the outing at Perth last time and looked a strong stayer when winning back-to-back races at that same venue in June. Craig Star, representing last year's winning stable, is another considered.

Verdict

A host of these arrive with something to prove, with a chance taken on CRAIG STAR. He disappointed during the summer but hinted at a revival on return to action at Carlisle last month and is 2 lb below his last winning mark. Jack Devine and Buckled rate next best.

Landed a couple of weak handicap chases at Sedgefield in the spring, which means he's thrusted into a higher grade for this reappearance.

Verdict

JOVIAL JOEY has held his form well since striking over 2m4f at Perth in August and is expected to build on his Market Rasen second over this trip last time. He pulled nine lengths clear of the third in the aforementioned contest so his 5lb rise in the ratings is fully warranted. Fixed Rate held on well to score by a head at Huntingdon but a 7lb rise makes his life tougher. Some Reign, sporting a first-time hood, is also considered.

Verdict

SOME REIGN is entitled to make a better chaser than hurdler and the signs were all there when he made a pleasing debut in this sphere at Carlisle recently. He should be able to build on that with fitness assured, so take him to get the better of the in-form Jovial Joey and Fixed Rate.

Ungenuine type and well held last 4 starts, including both outings this season.

Verdict

HALCYON DAYS returned from a 159-day break to win at Carlisle last month and that form has already been boosted with the third winning since. Based on that evidence, the handicapper has been extremely generous by raising the nine-year-old just 1lb in the ratings and he is hard to oppose. Civil Unrest is another who arrives here following some encouraging performances and he could pose the biggest threat to the selection. Others to note are Chain Of Beacons and Alizee De Janeiro.

Verdict

MONSIEUR CO is potentially well treated on his return/debut for this yard and could be worth chancing. Last year's winner Chain of Beacons is next best ahead of Halcyon Days.

Verdict

One Night In Milan has to be respected following back-to-back victories last month, but a further 6lb rise in the ratings will make life tougher for him today. With that in mind, preference is for MIGHTY THUNDER, who made an encouraging return to action at Perth in late September and this is just his second start since having a wind operation earlier in the year. Court Dreaming and Desert Island Dusk complete the shortlist.

Verdict

ONE NIGHT IN MILAN only scraped home over C&D last time but it did come only 48 hours after his Carlisle success and he's taken to show he's still very much a handicapper on the up. Mighty Thunder made a sound return to action when runner-up at Perth and will be a threat if building on that. Last year's winner Benny's Secret is well treated if reviving after a break.

Won a bumper in 2016, but has made little impact over jumps since, well beaten from out of the weights on chase debut over C&D last month.

Verdict

Troubled Soul was not disgraced over an extended 2m7f last time and this intermediate trip could be just what Fergal O'Brien's mare needs to try now to get off the mark over fences. However, a chance may be worth taking on SIMONE, who was not completely outclassed by a mare who subsequently placed in Listed company when trying three miles over hurdles in the summer and she now makes the switch to fences off a 1lb lower mark. Left Back returns to Rules after a confidence-boosting year in the pointing field, while Monsieur Arkadin should build on his recent Stratford comeback.

Verdict

TROUBLED SOUL is on a good mark if building on her Chepstow effort and gets the vote. Monsieur Arkadin probably has a race in him in this sphere, while Simone could leave her hurdles form behind now going chasing.

Verdict

It is somewhat notable the Brian Hughes partners Keith Dalgleish's GLORIOUS LADY and the point-to-point winner could be the answer on her Rules debut for an in-form combination. Oscar Light is an experienced campaigner between the flags and appeals more than the other Irish raider Retrace, while Summer Lightening opened her account on debut in the spring and has to be respected, despite being penalised accordingly.

Verdict

GLORIOUS LADY makes plenty of appeal as a point winner starting out in bumpers for a bang in-form stable. Animore shaped well first time up at Ayr in May and could do a lot better. Newcastle-winner Summer Lightening and Quiet Penny are a couple of others to consider.
