From the family of smart chaser Blueberry Boy. Runner-up both starts in Irish points. Work to do on chase bow.

Verdict

Rons Dream has finished second on her last three occasions and patience is starting to wear thin with the eight-year-old, though she does look likely to relish going up in trip once more and sets the standard of the British-trained contenders. Ready preference, however, is for ELUSIVE THEATRE, who was fifth in a hot handicap hurdle at Cheltenham in December before winning at Ayr six weeks ago. She is only small but jumped hurdles well and could have too much for this opposition now back over fences. Expresstime can win the battle for third.

Verdict

Probably a match between RONS DREAM and Elusive Theatre. This might be steadily-run as it was when Peter Bowen's charge was second at Bangor but she's shown more than enough to suggest she can win a race over fences and this could be her first.

Had a successful season on the level last year, completing a hat-trick at Haydock in September. Made winning start in this sphere at Statford in August before unseating his rider last time. Respected.

Verdict

Mcgowan's Pass and SAM'S GUNNER both carry penalties for their past novice wins, but they look to be the class acts in the race and narrow preference is for the Mick Easterby-trained latter. The five-year-old finished second to a smart Dan Skelton animal at Catterick before going one better at the same venue a month later, with connections reportedly pondering some big targets including the EBF Final at Sandown in March. Taxmeifyoucan receives weight all round but does have a 139-day absence to overcome.

Verdict

SAM'S GUNNER came home strongly at Catterick last time, suggesting there’s plenty more in the pipeline. He can follow up back in trip here. Mcgowan’s Pass should find this much easier and he remains unexposed, while Taxmeifyoucan also has to be respected as he may yet have more to offer.

Won Grade 2 mares' bumper at Aintree in April. Similar form over hurdles but form has been rather mixed. Has won on heavy but seems to prefer a better surface.

Verdict

Dame Rose receives a sex allowance here and appreciated the drop back to a shorter trip when a creditable fourth at Doncaster in a Grade 2 behind the likes of Maria's Benefit and Irish Roe last time out, while Better Getalong did it well at Ayr last time after previously running respectably in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham. Last year's winner CYRUS DARIUS was slightly disappointing over fences at Wetherby over Christmas, but this return to hurdles and slight step up in trip should see him in a much better light.

Verdict

All 5 are worthy of consideration but BETTER GETALONG looks the one open to the most improvement, especially now up in trip. The main threat could well come from Chti Balko, who may get an easy lead.

Useful hurdler who made a successful debut over fences in C&D event in October and right back on track when third in listed event at Warwick last time (serious mistake tenth). Great record at Kelso.

Verdict

Big River has been disappointing the last twice for Lucinda Russell but should appreciate this drop in class after finding Listed company too hot recently. He probably wants a greater test of stamina than this, so preference is for SHANTOU FLYER. Second to Frodon in a Cheltenham Grade 3 last month, cheekpieces have made all the difference to Richard Hobson's charge and he looks suited by these conditions. Seldom Inn and Charmix both have a bit to find to trouble the selection.

Verdict

SHANTOU FLYER has run big races in feature handicap chases at Cheltenham the last twice and has outstanding claims on these terms if remaining in that sort of form. He comes up against two with cracking records at Kelso in the shape of Big River and Seldom Inn, the former in particular very interesting as he's still relatively unexposed.

Showed a lot more on third run in novice hurdles in C&D event last month and could do better now handicapping.

Verdict

Landecker will no doubt prove popular after scoring over further off 5lb lower here three weeks ago and appears an obvious starting point, though of slightly more interest is the unexposed Rose Dobbin representative PLANET NINE, who returned to winning ways when switched to handicap company at Catterick earlier in the month and is expected to take a 7lb rise in his stride. The consistent Bruichladdich wouldn't be winning out of turn.

Verdict

PLANET NINE opened his account over hurdles in good style on his handicap debut at Catterick a fortnight ago and can follow up. Bruichladdich is in good form and respected, while Outnumbered could have more to offer now handicapping.

Lost his way for Gordon Elliott last year, but a couple of placed efforts between the flags of late confirm he's in reasonable order.

Lost his way for Gordon Elliott last year, but a couple of placed efforts between the flags of late confirm he's in reasonable order.

Verdict

Winner of the 2014 Scottish Grand National, AL CO has back class in abundance. Micky Bowen's 13-year-old showed his appetite still remains at the veteran stage of his career when landing a similar contest over C&D last month and is expected to notch a double at the expense of Cultram Abbey, who was forced to play second fiddle behind the selection 32 days ago. Sir Jack Yeats commands respect on the back of his 3m victory at Market Rasen nine days ago and looks best of the rest.

Verdict

CULTRAM ABBEY has 3 parts-of-a-length to find with Al Co on their C&D clash last month, but he was denied a run at a vital stage and was closing all the way to the line, which suggests he may well get his revenge this time. Sir Jack Yeats showed a good attitude at Market Rasen last week and has to command respect, too.

Verdict

Point winner Hitman Fred made a pleasing start to his career under Rules, going down by a head over track and trip last month with Dali Mail finishing behind in third, and should be thereabouts once again if repeating that effort. Marginal preference, however, is for Lucinda Russell's DR HOOVES, who took a forward step when runner-up at Musselburgh last time out and arguably sets the form standard on that performance.

Verdict

The Rose Dobbin team continues in good form and HITMAN FRED can build on last month's C&D second and strike at the second time of asking under Rules. Dr Hooves rates an obvious danger on the back of his Musselburgh second, while Dali Mail wasn't too far behind the selection when third here last time. Blaydon and Tupence are also interesting newcomers in a decent finale.
