Verdict

Midnight Guest won nicely at Lingfield two starts ago but was firmly put in his place at the same track last time, where he was some way behind ASK THE GURU. Michael Attwater's charge was beaten a short head into third that day and has followed up with a solid effort at Brighton, so looks capable of getting back to winning ways here. Spot Lite ran well on his last visit to this track in August and is 3lb lower for this.

Verdict

MIDNIGHT GUEST wasn’t seen to best effect at Lingfield last time having taken a strong hold and come wide on the home turn, so is worth another chance on that evidence. Sandfrankskipsgo also didn’t have much luck on his latest start and needs considering along with Ask The Guru.

Verdict

Drakefell has evidently had his problems but the fact he won on his first start for four months in March suggests he could be a factor on his first outing since. Equimou took advantage of a falling mark to score at Salisbury last time but has been handed a 9lb rise for those exertions, so preference is for ISLAND OF LIFE. William Haggas' filly has been a model of consistency since winning at Sandown in June and tries a variety of headgear on her first start since a wind operation here, all of which could improve her.

Verdict

CAPTAIN LARS is having a fantastic year and looks set to give another good account with Oisin Murphy now taking over in the saddle. Equimou and Island of Life also arrive in top form and are feared.

Twice-raced maiden. 16/1, eleventh of 12 in maiden at Newbury (6f, good to soft) 24 days ago. Better effort on debut, but still more needed.

Verdict

Double Kodiac opened his account at the first attempt at Maisons-Laffitte, but subsequent efforts have left a lot to be desired, while Whelans Way created a favourable impression on debut at Bath but was brushed aside in no uncertain terms at Newbury last time. CRACKIN DREAM seems to be heading in the right direction, following up a Windsor fifth on debut with a much better effort over C&D and Clive Cox's colt is taken to continue that upward trend.

Verdict

CELTIC MANOR is an expensive newcomer who makes plenty of appeal on paper, and he may be able to take advantage of the weight he receives from previous-winner Double Kodiac, whose best effort came when winning in France on debut. Stallone has quite a bit to find, but he really caught the eye on debut, and needs monitoring in the market.

Verdict

DESERT FRIEND was impressive when beating a small field at Leicester in fine style on debut and though he was beaten at Pontefract after that, he was far from disgraced and could notch a second success here. Rambaldi probably sets the standard of the others with experience, but that hardly sets the bar high, so a bigger danger could be Andrew Balding's newcomer Luck Of Clover, who should have no problems with this trip on pedigree.

Verdict

DESERT FRIEND won on debut then perhaps did too much too soon at Pontefract next time. He has a penalty to carry but looks up to the job. Rambaldi improved from his debut and remains with potential over this longer trip, while Luck of Clover is an interesting newcomer.

Verdict

JAHBATH was sent off favourite on debut at Salisbury and though he failed to repay punters' faith there, he got within a neck of success behind an experienced rival and can go one better here. Surrey Warrior improved on his Salisbury debut to take second at Lingfield last time and could go close, while Fares Poet showed the benefit of a debut outing when a fair third over a furlong shorter here last time.

Verdict

JAHBATH shaped well on Salisbury debut, and is sure to improve, particularly over this longer trip. Surrey Warrior improved from his debut when second at Lingfield 3 weeks ago, and can do better still, while Characteristic is another likely improver with not much to find.

Lightly-raced maiden. 5/1 and blinkered for 1st time, showed first form when third of 8 on nursery debut at Chelmsford City (5f) 52 days ago. Enters the reckoning if building on that.

Verdict

MYSUSY left some pretty disastrous form in novice races firmly behind her when switched to nurseries at Chelmsford last time, getting within a length of success. Given another chance off the same mark, she can account for Nervous Nerys, who also improved dramatically for the switch to this sphere on her latest outing. Fast Endeavour has been a consistent sort and the handicapper's decision to drop her 2lb for her third-placed finish here could prove very lenient.

Verdict

JEWEL OF THE SEA ran well on just her second handicap start when fourth at Lingfield last month and a repeat may well be good enough to open her account here. Sunday Scholar is still lightly raced for Arichie Watson so shouldn't be written off. Mysusy also enters the reckoning following a better effort last time.

Verdict

ROSE BERRY has struck a solid partnership with Irineu Goncalves in recent starts, culminating in an impressive victory at Lingfield last time. Though she's up 5lb for that effort, she could follow up. Human Nature has been in fine form of late and a 3lb rise for his recent Yarmouth second might not stop him putting in a bold challenge, while Mutanaaseq was having his first run for over a year at Salisbury 12 days ago and could come on significantly for the outing.

Verdict

HANDYTALK looked back in form when third at Goodwood last month and is on a good mark if able to build on that. Human Nature and Lightning Charlie are a couple of others to consider.

12/1, returned to form when winning 10-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 53 days ago, unchallenged. Seen to good effect, but should remain competitive from a handicapping perspective.
