€120,000 Invincible Spirit colt. Closely related to very smart winner up to 1¼m Dux Scholar and 7f winner Almoner. Dam 11.4f winner. Makes plenty of appeal on paper.

Verdict

PESTO improved significantly from his debut to finish within two lengths of the winner at Sandown last time and Richard Hannon's charge wouldn't have to improve that much more to land this. Massam ran better on his Chelmsford debut than at Haydock latest but has claims if allowed to dictate the pace, while a trio of newcomers in Edgewood, Madkhal and Noble Ancestry warrant a market check at least.

Verdict

Mark Johnston's MASSAM likely has more to offer and gets the nod but there are interesting newcomers such as Madkhal, Red Armada and Noble Ancestry and a strong market move for one or more of those would put a slightly different slant on things. Pesto also has the form to figure.

Lightly-raced maiden. 9/2, first run since leaving Robyn Brisland when fourth of 5 in handicap at Carlisle (5.9f, good to firm) 31 days ago, needing stiffer test. Expected to be bang there.

Verdict

Sultan Baybars showed he can compete at this sort of level when third in a claimer at Catterick last time, but he has an engagement at Ayr on Saturday and would have to give almost a stone away to ROTHERHITHE if running here. Richard Fahey's filly earned a mark of 72 for three near-misses in novice events and although she was unimpressive on her reappearance at Carlisle last month, she could come on for that and land the spoils in this grade. Shovel It On and Zapateado are a couple of others to consider.

Verdict

Neither ROTHERHITHE nor Sultan Baybars are for maximum faith, but they really ought to dominate on these terms, with marginal preference for the former in receipt of 11 lb.

Improved to get off the mark in Catterick handicap over this trip 25 days ago, making all to score by 5 lengths. Up 6 lb but good chance there's more to come.

Verdict

India obliterated her rivals at Catterick, running out a five-length winner, and a 6lb rise in the ratings could prove a touch on the lenient side, especially when considering Giving Glances has been raised 7lb for her two-length Lingfield success. However, SAVING GRACE was a gutsy winner at Doncaster two starts ago and can be forgiven her recent effort over further in a higher grade at Newbury. Back in this class, Luca Cumani's filly can strike.

Verdict

GIVING GLANCES deserves extra credit after coming from a fair way back to win readily at Lingfield last month and a 7 lb rise may not stop her with further improvement on the cards. India is another who pieced it all together with a comfortable success last time and could be the one to give the selection most to think about.

Seventh of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 25/1) 13 days ago. Likely to come on for that and his mark is edging down.

Verdict

LUCKY LUCKY MAN certainly wasn't winning out of turn at Newcastle last time, having filled the minor places over course and distance and at Haydock previously. Equally adept on turf or the all-weather, he could follow up. Rebel Streak has claims if taking up this engagement (currently a reserve at Ascot on Saturday), while the return to this trip could see Captain Jameson banish memories of his recent struggle at Thirsk. The unexposed Youkan should not be left out of calculations either.

Verdict

CAPTAIN JAMESON shapes up like there's a win in him from this sort of mark and, having gone better than the end result for a long way over 7f last time, he could be able to open his account for the season acknowledging it's a competitive affair. Royal Residence would have huge claims if taking his chance and Lucky Lucky Man has to be respected in his current mood.

Winner at Chepstow in July. 13/8, bit below form third of 7 in handicap at Windsor (8.1f, good) 13 days ago. Can give a good account.

Verdict

Luca Cumani has strong claims with recent C&D winner Recollect, who is a mere 4lb higher here, but it might be worth taking him on with MAKAMBE. Charlie Hills' grey was a good winner at Chepstow two starts ago and found the race wasn't run to suit at Windsor last time, where he plugged on from off the pace to take third. Likely to be more prominent here, he can get back in the winner's enclosure. Paco's Prince is another recent winner who put in a below-par effort at Windsor last time.

Verdict

RECOLLECT had more in hand than the margin would suggest when getting off the mark in a C&D handicap 3 weeks ago, so his follow-up claims from 4 lb higher appear to be bright. Ragstone View and Makambe weren't seen to best effect last time so head the opposition.

Fourth of 7 in handicap at Newbury (7f, good to firm, 9/2) 23 days ago, not ideally placed. Blinkers on 1st time. Can make presence felt.

Verdict

NAMPARA had looked completely out of sorts in the spring, but a four-month break has rejuvenated Paul D'Arcy's filly, who has won at Lingfield and Newmarket recently. The hat-trick looks on the cards off just 2lb higher than her most recent success, though Faithful Promise was not far away in third over this track and trip last time and is a likely threat. Affluence ran well enough over further at Newmarket to suggest he could take a hand if suited by the drop in trip.

Verdict

NAMPARA is on a roll now, and the way she got to the front at Newmarket for her latest win suggests she may yet have a bit more to offer. Affluence was better than the bare result at Newbury last time and is next best ahead of Faithful Promise.

Unreliable type. 16/1, fourth of 5 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, good to soft) 9 days ago, slowly away. Others more persuasive.

Verdict

PERFECT SYMPHONY has to give weight all round here, but he ran well under a welter burden at Chepstow last time, finishing a close second to a horse getting 23lb from him. There's no obviously well-handicapped danger lurking at the bottom of the weights in this. David's Beauty followed up a Chepstow success with second in an lady amateur riders' race here last time and looks the biggest danger, while Summerseat Dream is far from consistent but is capable on her first start for David O'Meara since switching over from Jessie Harrington's yard in Ireland.

Verdict

DAVID'S BEAUTY has been a model of consistency this season and can land another C&D handicap. Perfect Symphony looks ready to win again and is feared most ahead of Compton Poppy.
