Verdict

CRUCIAL MOMENT has to carry a penalty today but the son of Pivotal has defied that to make the frame in his last two starts. This is a weaker event than those contests and there is every chance that Bill Turner's three-year-old will return to winning ways. Special Relation is an interesting Flat recruit, with Etoo Sport the pick of the remainder.

Verdict

SPECIAL RELATION ran to a useful level when winning a Flat handicap in good style when last seen in June and could be worth chancing starting out in this sphere. French recruit Sommervieu is feared most ahead of Crucial Moment.

Fairly useful on the Flat in France (stays 10.5f), and showed something to work on making hurdling bow at Wetherby (16f) last month. She’s open to improvement but will probably do better in handicaps.

Verdict

The unbeaten SUNSHADE makes plenty of appeal today following her impressive win on her hurdles debut at Ludlow three weeks ago. The daughter of Sulamani has to carry a 7lb penalty for that success but it is not hard to argue that this race is a lot weaker. Black Sam Bella appears to be the main threat, although Infinite Sun did beat a useful rival on her debut last season and she could be at her best when fresh.

Verdict

SUNSHADE looked a bright prospect when making a winning hurdling debut at Ludlow last month, and she’s a confident selection to keep her unbeaten record intact. Black Sam Bella is in the right hands to get back on track, while course bumper winner Infinite Sun is respected now switching to timber.

Of little account these days and he's very hard to fancy from 10 lb out of the weights.

Verdict

MR JIM was returning from a short break when finishing third at Leicester last month and the eight-year-old appears to have a good chance today from 1lb lower in the ratings. Elkstone remains a maiden after 20 starts but he often finds himself in the mix and can do so once again today. Others to consider are Ever So Much, Iona Days and Orchestrated.

Verdict

The unexposed MR JIM promises to be well suited by the step back up in trip after finishing well over 2m at Leicester on his recent return from a break and gets the nod under 7 lb claimer James Nixon. Ever So Much is well treated and has shown more encouraging signs the last twice, while Elkstone is a long-standing maiden but is usually thereabouts.

Verdict

A small field but a competitive enough event, with the preference going to BARNEY DWAN. The seven-year-old has not had the best of luck over fences to date but he is very talented and has plenty in his favour at these weights. Solighoster won well at Ffos Las last month but a 7lb penalty leaves him vulnerable and that could lead to Clondaw Cian giving the selection the most to think about.

Verdict

BARNEY DWAN wasn't quite at his best when third on return at Exeter last month, yet given his exploits over hurdles and his low-mileage profile over fences, he could be worth chancing to get on the up. Solighoster was impressive on his respective chasing bow at Ffos Las though, and should give him plenty to think about.

Fair handicap hurdler back in this sphere with his jumping having become disappointing over fences. Not on a bad mark if finding his best form.

Verdict

CHRISTMAS IN APRIL showed ability in some competitive maiden hurdles last season and the unexposed five-year-old is taken to making a winning handicap debut this afternoon. Huntsman Son has made the frame in both of his Rules starts to date and he makes plenty of appeal in this open evening. Lettheriverrundry and Stick To The Plan are others who make the shortlist.

Verdict

HUNTSMAN SON could be on a good mark making his handicap debut and gets the vote. Stick To The Plan and Christmas In April are both younger potental improvers and likely players.

Did go close to ending a 3-year drought when second at Uttoxeter (23f) in September but typically not in same form subsequently.

Verdict

TRIOPAS brings the most solid recent form to the table and did well to finish third at Newcastle having raced keenly last time. Trainer Tom Lacey has opted to use his amateur's 5lb claim which gives him an excellent chance of returning to winning form. Wells Gold took his first success at Fontwell in good style and could easily find further improvement for an in-form yard, while American Life was runner-up at Perth in the spring and could well be sweetened up by a change of yard.

Verdict

VARENE DE VAUZELLE couldn't have been 100% given how tame his effort was at Stratford in October. However, he had hit the frame all 3 previous starts for Olly Murphy, so he is given the tentative vote to bounce back. Wells Gold and American Life are others to consider.

Returned to form out of the blue when runner-up to a stablemate at Sedgefield (16.4f) last week. No doubt he is on a good mark but the big question is whether he can hold his form together.

Verdict

There was obviously something amiss with DRUID'S DIAMOND as he pulled up after the first flight over C&D last month, but he is turned out a fortnight later and can take his first success over timber. Focaccia should find life easier at this level but has ultimately found it difficult to get off the mark, while Pixiepot is usually consistent and can bounce back to form after a below-par effort at Sedgefield last time.

Verdict

PIXIEPOT remains winless over hurdles, but last month’s reappearance was encouraging, and she is interesting back at the scene of her only (bumper) success. There’s no doubt Roxyfet is well treated on old form, but the big question is whether she can back up her latest effort. Minella Fiveo is also considered from an attractive mark.
