Better with each start in bumpers, doubling her tally in fine style at Kelso (2m) in May. Positives to be gleaned from hurdling bow when third of 9 over C&D last month. Open to progress.

Verdict

This is not the strongest of maiden hurdles and it is an ideal opportunity for the dual bumper winner HEARTASIA to earn her first victory over obstacles. The daughter of Danehill Dancer finished third in a similar event over C&D in November and that performance suggested that she would improve for the hurdling experience. Character Onesie could make the frame if he can complete the course, which he failed to do last time out. Chookie Royale and Emell were both talented Flat performers, while it is too soon to be writing off Arizona Bound after one poor run in September.

Verdict

Dual fairly useful bumper winner, HEARTASIA, shaped with enough encouragement over C&D last month to suggest she’s capable of winning races over timber, and she can cash in at the second attempt now. Kelpies Myth has scope for further improvement, while Chookie Royale is likely to be suited by this sharper track. Character Onesie also deserves a mention for the in-form Donald McCain yard.

Limited impact over hurdles in recent months but clearly possible this ex-pointer could fare better now chasing.

Verdict

MULLAGHMURPHY BLUE could hardly have won any easier over C&D last month and that was his second win at this track this season. A 10lb rise in the ratings is unlikely to be enough to stop him from going extremely well once again. It was too soon to know how Martiloo would have gone when she unseated rider at Ayr last time but the mare had been in great form prior to that. Middlebrow is another who failed to make the finish on his last appearance but is a player based on previous efforts.

Verdict

MULLAGHMURPHY BLUE has been impressive when scoring twice over C&D recently and a further 10 lb rise may not stop him with further improvement likely. Middlebrow won nicely on his latest completed start and looks the obvious main danger.

Ran respectably, seeing her race out much better than last time when fourth of 13 at Catterick (19.3f) a couple of weeks ago. Largely consistent and can figure again. Still a maiden, though.

Verdict

Micky Hammond has enjoyed a fruitful spell recently with the yard in great form and RHYTHM OF SOUND bids to land the hat-trick as he returns to hurdles after two chase successes at Leicester and Sedgefield. Hey Bob was a winner at Southwell on his latest start and warrants plenty of respect, while others to consider include Mitcd and Sleep In First, who both look to have each-way claims.

Verdict

Hard to enthuse over many of these, but SLEEP IN FIRST proved his ability retains firmly intact when runner-up at Sedgefield last month, and he ought to be capable of making another bid after just a small rise in the weights. King of Aragon is an interesting runner on first start for Iain Jardine judged on his Flat ability, while Lady Clitco shouldn't be dismissed either returning to this code.

Not the most consistent but he came to the boil to cash in off a mark 8 lb lower than his last winning one when taking a C&D handicap in November. 3 lb rise fair but others rate stronger.

Verdict

RANDY PIKE was an easy winner on his handicap debut at Market Rasen when finally showing some of the promise which had seen him sent off at cramped odds for two bumpers earlier on in his career. He is quickly turned out under a penalty and is expected to defy it. Lady London has been running consistently well over course and distance recently and can land a blow along with Justatenner, who was close up behind the aforementioned mare here last month.

Verdict

RANDY PIKE confirmed his opening mark was a lenient one when scoring with any amount in hand at Market Rasen on Boxing Day and further progress rates a distinct possibility. The application of a tongue tie/cheekpieces has proved the catalyst for improvement from Lady London and she is feared, with Jump For Dough and Court Baloo also worth a second look.

Cashed in on falling mark over C&D last month but not in the same form when beaten 10 lengths into fifth at Catterick since.

Verdict

UT MAJEUR AULMES has started this season in fine form and the often tricky to catch right performer has proved to be much more consistent. A repeat of the level he produced when defeated just a neck at Aintree last time can see him take this and provide Victor Dartnall with a welcome winner. Mixboy has been putting in some solid performances on the Flat, winning twice in the Autumn, and can get involved if transferring that back over fences, while Chain Of Beacons and Pain Au Chocolat are others capable of getting in the mix.

Verdict

MIXBOY suffered a couple of non-completions in some very competitive handicap chases last spring but retains plenty of potential off a mark of 138 in these slightly calmer waters. He arrives on the back of a productive spell on the Flat in the second half of last year and should take a bit of stopping under Brian Hughes. Ut Majeur Aulmes and Chain of Beacons look best of the rest.

£11,000 3-y-o, Nathaniel gelding. Dam, ran once on Flat, sister to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 19f) Migration.

Verdict

Borders handler Donald Whillans saw his mare PAPER PROMISE finish second at Kelso on her racecourse debut and the switch to a flatter track here could see her get off the mark this time around. Detonate has the experience of a run in France and cost a hefty amount at the sales, while Blue Baton is related to a bumper winner and could be the best of the racecourse debutants.

Verdict

Probably not a strong bumper and PAPER PROMISE could land the spoils if building on her Kelso second in May. Lucinda Russell's Blue Baton is respected, while Leostar is another newcomer to note.
