Winner of first 2 starts last year prior to finishing third in 6f Newmarket listed contest. By no means disgraced in the Fred Darling on return here (7f, good to soft) in April but others preferred.

Verdict

EQTIDAAR showed the promise of his maiden win at Nottingham when runner-up to Invincible Army in the Pavilion Stakes at Ascot earlier this month and Sir Michael Stoute's colt is expected to take a step forward. Murillo did his job well for stable companion Saxon Warrior in the 2000 Guineas when shaping as though a return to sprinting would be ideal. Shabaaby was disappointing on his last start as a juvenile but is capable of making a mark in this grade, while Juliet Capulet is an interesting contender dropping in trip.

Verdict

Several promising types on show and BREATHLESS TIMES may well be the pick of them. Had things gone his way he probably would've completed the hat-trick at Lingfield when last seen in March and there should be more to come from this colt. Eqtidaar has to be feared but he's unproven on ground this fast and Murillo, who showed up well for a long way in the 2000 Guineas, may emerge as the main danger.

Fairly useful bumper winner who ran well when fourth on Flat debut in a Goodwood listed event (12f) 2 weeks ago. Still, this requires another leap forward.

Verdict

Sir Michael Stoute will have been pleased with the return of CRYSTAL OCEAN in the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown over 1m2f where he showed an excellent attitude to see off a race-fit rival. The yard's horses at the time were needing their first outings and this looks an ideal place to come before following the typical route towards the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot. Raheen House looked as though he would benefit from his first run and will appreciate the drop back in distance. Scarlet Dragon will be fit from racing over hurdles for Alan King and has form at Group level which can see him go well here.

Verdict

Even as things stand CRYSTAL OCEAN boasts by far the strongest form, but the Sea The Stars colt also possesses potential given his relatively low mileage. He got the better of a progressive, race-fit rival over an inadequate trip on return at Sandown and should have little trouble following up here. Second Step is marginally preferred to Raheen House for forecast purposes.

Verdict

MASAARR caught the eye when winning over 1m at Doncaster earlier in the month and that performance suggested that this trip would bring about the best in Roger Varian's colt. A new mark of 96 is stiff enough but he remains unexposed and may have more to offer. He's Amazing won a similar race at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago and is an obvious threat to the selection. Master Of Wine may well be underestimated off an opening mark of 82 but good to firm ground would have to be a concern. Mekong displayed a good attitude when winning at Leicester last month but that came on heavy ground and he may find this test on the sharp side, while Chief Ironside has to be considered as well.

Verdict

MASAARR is taken to follow in the footsteps of stablemate Defoe, who landed this prize 12 months ago before going on to better things. He left the impression that this trip would be right up his street when scoring over a mile at Doncaster a fortnight ago. Mekong possesses significant potential and is feared most, while Communique, Chief Ironside and Master of Wine are all promising types.

Verdict

This is not the strongest renewal of this contest but it is competitive nonetheless. That said, the preference is for the progressive ADDEYBB, who proved that his Lincoln victory was no fluke by winning the Group 2 bet365 Mile at Sandown late last month. This will be the quickest ground that he has encountered but if the son of Pivotal handles the surface he will be very hard to beat. Rhododendron won the Prix de l'Opera last year and she is entitled to improve for comeback run in the Prix Ganay. Limato has to prove his stamina over a mile but the fast ground should help him. Those looking for an each-way alternative should consider Lightning Spear, who has an excellent record when fresh.

Verdict

While this is by far his toughest assignment to date, the sky could be the limit for ADDEYBB. He built on his impressive Lincoln victory with a similarly authoritative display at Sandown and, ominously for his rivals, there should be even better to come. Rhododendron and Limato are both established top-tier performers and will offer stern resistance, while Zabeel Prince is an unknown quantity.

Verdict

BARBILL really caught the eye when winning impressively on his debut at Bath recently and that performance suggested he is a well above-average juvenile. That said, he will need to be to defeat the likes of Its The Only Way and Marie's Diamond, who both bring strong form to the table, while the step up to 6f should help The Irish Rover, who was staying on well after a slow start at Ascot last time out. Al Shaqab has owned the winner of this race for the last two years and their Almufti is an interesting newcomer. The son of Toronado is closely related to some black-type performers in Italy and he cost connections 120,000gns as a yearling.

Verdict

The step up to 6f will suit DAVE DEXTER, who was doing his best work at the finish when third in what looked a useful event at Ascot last Saturday. He gets the nod ahead of The Irish Rover, who is capable of far better than he was able to show last time. Marie's Diamond may prove best of the rest, though Barbill and Its The Only Way are clearly talented and Almufti is a likely-looking newcomer.

Ended 2-y-o campaign with a win at Newmarket in September and improved further to make a winning start in handicaps at Windsor (10f) last month. Well worth a crack at this level (cheekpieces on).

Verdict

The form of CRYSTAL HOPE's victory at Sandown last month was boosted when the second and third finished first and fourth in the Musidora at York on Wednesday. The same connections won this race in 2015 with a close relation to this filly and it would be no surprise to see her take this before tackling Group company. Stream Song only won a handicap off a mark of 83 last time out but the first-time cheekpieces may sharpen her up. It is interesting that Sea of Class steps up in class having finished second on her debut at Newmarket last month as this race went to a similar type 12 months ago.

Verdict

It was hard not to be impressed with the way CRYSTAL HOPE did the job at Sandown and that form was franked when the runner-up landed the Musidora at York during the week. The daughter of Nathaniel possesses plenty of scope for improvement and she is preferred to Stream Song and Sea of Class.
