Verdict

WALDSTERN built on his debut victory in a novice contest on the July Course at Newmarket when picking up minor money under a penalty at Haydock last time. John Gosden's charge is interesting now stepping up in grade and is entitled to improve for this stiffer test given he's a half-brother to the classy Waldgeist. Sydney Opera House returned to form when second in the Royal Lodge and holds stablemate Norway on their earlier encounter in a Curragh maiden.

Verdict

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE's second to a stable companion in the Royal Lodge is the best form on offer, and he's sure to find more over this longer trip. Stablemate Norway was much improved to win a maiden at Naas recently, and he too has a bigger performance in him now upped in trip. Waldstern needs to improve to trouble the O'Brien pair, but he's well-bred and will also be suited by the test of stamina.

Promising individual. 11/1, good 5 lengths fourth to Madhmoon in Group 2 at Leopardstown (8f, good to firm) 28 days ago. Open to further progress but seemingly not stable first string.

Verdict

Andre Fabre's French raider PERSIAN KING bolted up by five lengths in a conditions contest at Chantilly last time and looks the one they all have to beat as he continues on a sharp upward curve. Kadar fetched 700,000 euros at the breeze-ups and left a strong impression when winning a novice event over this trip first time out at Haydock, while Magna Grecia commands respect given he won on debut for Aidan O'Brien at Naas.

Verdict

PERSIAN KING looked a smart colt in the making when winning comfortably at Chantilly 4 weeks ago, and sets a tall standard for the others to aim at. Magna Grecia is highly promising himself and is the one most likely to bridge the gap, though Kadar is an unknown quantity as well.

A colt of huge potential and maintained his unbeaten record with a truly awesome performance in 6-runner Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster (7f, good) last month. The one to beat.

Verdict

TOO DARN HOT confirmed himself to be a colt out of the top drawer when winning the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month and he is hard to oppose based on that evidence. Sangarius has caught the eye on both of his previous starts and he should be capable of going well, although he will need to take another step forward to be successful. Anthony Van Dyck only found Quorto too good in the National Stakes last time out and he is another who should be in the mix. Advertise has to prove his ability to stay the trip but his consistency cannot be knocked.

Verdict

TOO DARN HOT produced a performance right out of the top drawer in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month and he looks the one to beat on that evidence. Anthony Van Dyck may prove the chief threat following his second to the hugely exciting Quorto in the National Stakes at the Curragh, though Sangarius and Advertise are others to consider in a mouth-watering affair.

Verdict

Theglasgowwarrior has been running well all season and could run a big race at a fair price, while Vis A Vis has been a market mover throughout the week and the addition to the saddle of Cesarewitch specialist Silvestre De Sousa is worth noting. Willie Mullins runs seven and Stratum, Limini and Low Sun are all worthy of respect, but this can go the way of JUST IN TIME, who has won three of his last four for Alan King. His victory at Doncaster last time in the Mallard was mightily impressive, and he looks likely to get his preferred strong pace in this cavalry charge. St Leger third Southern France looks to be the class horse in the race, but only two three-year-olds have won this in the last 25 years, while Cleonte has a nice profile but would have preferred some rain to be more competitive.

Verdict

A fiercely competitive renewal with the narrow vote in favour of LOW SUN. An impressive winner on the Flat/over hurdles earlier this term, he wasn't seen to anything like best effect last time and this sort of test promises to suit. Speedo Boy still looks fairly treated and is respected for all his wide draw is a concern. Stratum, Just In Time and Southern France also make the shortlist.

Resumed winning ways back on turf in 11-runner nursery at Nottingham (6.1f, good to firm) 10 days ago, but was all out to hold on so more will be needed in this line-up from 4 lb higher.

Verdict

A return to seven furlongs saw BARRISTAN THE BOLD back to his very best, when drawing clear to score at Chester last time, and the mount of Patrick Pilley is of serious interest once again. Shallow Hal got off the mark on heavy ground last time and is respected, although underfoot conditions will be much quicker this time around. A return to a sounder surface could be in the favour of the lightly-raced Happy Power, who was a beaten favourite at Hamilton last month. Indian Viceroy's hat-trick bid ended in defeat when up to 1m at Doncaster and the drop in trip can help, with Baronial Pride the pick of the Richard Fahey pair.

Verdict

HAPPY POWER’s opening mark could underestimate him and he makes most appeal with further progress on the cards. Watchmyeverymove looks sure to be suited by this step up in trip after keeping on well at Yarmouth last month. Indian Viceroy and Baronial Pride are other potential threats.
