Built on debut promise when scoring at Wolverhampton in December. Third in what looked a decent event on return at Haydock (8.2f, soft) but further progress needed now pitched into a handicap.

Bettered anything she's previously achieved by some way when landing a Redcar handicap (1m, good to firm) on recent reappearance. However, now 7 lb higher in a tougher race so more needed.

Verdict

POINT HOPE has done little wrong in three starts thus far and showed that she has trained-on, as well as be competitive over this trip, when third on her seasonal reappearance at Haydock. Forecast better ground today should suit this all-weather winner and an opening mark of 77 looks well within her reach. Naqaawa improved throughout her juvenile campaign and warrants plenty of respect returning with a first-time hood equipped, while Chelmsford runner-up Astolat merits consideration under top French jockey Gerald Mosse.

Verdict

The vote goes to FINAL TREAT, who showed plenty of ability in turf maidens on her first 2 starts last season and there should be more to come from this filly now pitched into handicap company. Similar remarks apply to Naqaawa and she is next on the list ahead of American Endeavour. Odyssa will also be a threat if coping with this step up in trip.

Foaled March 26. Intello filly. Half-sister to several winners, including useful 5f-6f winner Edward Lewis and useful 2-y-o 6f winner Louie de Palma. Wears hood. Interesting newcomer.

Verdict

Swiss Peak, Coastguard Watch and Sandridge Lad are all interesting newcomers given connections and the betting market should prove a good guide to their chances, but it might pay to side with the experience of USAIN BOAT. The George Scott-trained colt was a big eye-catcher on his debut over 5f at Yarmouth, when finishing fast to take second after a slow start, and the third did that form no harm when finishing runner-up in a novice stakes event at Windsor on Monday. With the step up in trip likely to suit, he could prove tough to beat.

Verdict

Those with previous experience don't set the bar too high, and the sole filly ARCTIC SPIRIT, a half-sister to a couple of useful sprinters, could well outrun her odds. Usain Boat showed plenty on debut a couple of weeks ago and may improve enough to play a leading role, while Oliver Hardy is another debutant that could go well at decent odds.

Lightly-raced filly. 12/1, good fourth of 13 in nursery at this C&D (good to soft), having run of race. Off 7 months. Sets the standard.

Verdict

ZIARAH didn't run a bad race in five starts as a juvenile and has already shown an ability to handle this undulating track. With Jamie Spencer a positive jockey booking on her seasonal reappearance, the 80-rated performer could prove a tough nut to crack. Teenage Gal only found subsequent winner Caiya a neck too good on her latest outing at Salisbury and she is likely to be in the shake-up again, while the first-time blinkered Perfection and Wolverhampton runner-up Allante are others to note.

Verdict

Probably not the strongest of maidens despite some powerful yards represented. ALLANTE proved all the better for debut when just edged out at Wolverhampton in December and shades the vote over Ziarah, who showed fairly useful form as a juvenile. Teenage Gal was only just denied by a subsequent winner at Salisbury in October and is another to consider.

Runner-up in Lingfield maiden (1¼m, AW) when returning from a lengthy absence in December. May have needed the run on recent handicap debut at Windsor and merits respect now upped in trip.

Verdict

SPORTING TIMES' only career win came on fast ground back in June last year and he looks to be worth an interest on his first run since a wind operation. James Doyle has won and finished second in two starts on the gelding and his presence in the plate today suggests that a decent effort can be expected. White Desert remains unexposed and was only beaten a neck by a smart animal last time at Wolverhampton, while Abareeq could prove best of the remainder.

Verdict

Unexposed 4-y-os MAGELLAN and White Desert could be the pair to concentrate on. The latter isn't passed over at all lightly on the back of his solid reappearance effort but Magellan improved when landing a Newcastle maiden when last seen in October and is marginally preferred. Past Master also has low mileage and is a live each-way player, along with Abareeq and See of Rome.

Promising efforts in second in Southwell and Beverley maidens at up to this trip, dictating and headed post last time. Up to winning a maiden, though this is easily the deepest race she's tackled.

Verdict

Prabeni was disappointing when beaten at odds-on at Chelmsford last time out, though it could simply be that he was beaten by two potentially smart animals on that occasion. Burgonet almost stole the race from the front when narrowly defeated at Beverley earlier this month, but STYLEHUNTER makes more appeal wearing first-time cheekpieces for John Gosden. His Kempton third in December has worked out well and he simply bumped into one at Yarmouth last time out, with nothing of that class likely to be lurking in this field.

Verdict

Roger Charlton gets plenty of winning newcomers and GUILD could well be the latest. He's from an excellent family, with the classiest of his relatives Promising Lead having won on debut, and his Royal Ascot entry suggests he's been showing all the right signs at home. Stylehunter, Burgonet and Prabeni have all shown enough to suggest they can win a race, while Crystal King could improve markedly.

Signs of ability at 2 yrs and shaped well when blinkered on return/handicap debut at Wolverhampton (9.5f). Sports a visor this time and further improvement likely now switched to a stiffer track.

Appears to have gone the wrong way following a fairly promising start to his career, finishing stone last on handicap/turf debut at Doncaster (10.2f, soft). Now tried in cheekpieces.

Verdict

A first-time tongue-tie could be a source of immediate improvement for SPORTSWRITER, who was headed in the final strides over this trip at Lingfield in novice company last time but could step up on that effort now moving into a handicap. Morning Skye beat the selection in a Newcastle maiden in March so is very interesting off a similar rating here. The pick of the remainder may be recent C&D second Midnight Wilde, who is officially 5lb well in.

Verdict

MIDNIGHT WILDE may lack the long-term potential of some of these but he's nevertheless very appealing, having failed by a whisker off this mark in what was arguably a stronger race on his C&D reappearance. There should be better to come from Whitehall, who stayed on well from a poor position at Wolverhampton and he is feared most ahead of handicap debutants Sportswriter and Grandscape.

Has found just one too good on each of his 4 starts, clear of the rest when chasing home a potentially smart colt at Yarmouth (1m, good to firm) last time. Still, more needed on this handicap debut.

Successful twice last year and creditable fifth in an 11-runner Newbury handicap (7f, good to soft) on return. 1 lb lower now but some of these rivals seemingly possess greater potential.

Dual winner at 2 yrs and wasn't beaten far when fourth on return at Beverley (7.4f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago. Should again give a good account, albeit without quite being good enough.
