Form tailed off following victory at Leicester last season and she looks vulnerable back from a 6-month break in this competitive heat.

Verdict

Roger Varian representative EKHTIYAAR is worth monitoring closely in the betting on his seasonal return as he landed a valuable C&D handicap last season and won't mind any cut in the ground. Eastern Impact is another C&D winner returning from a break to consider. He's dropped 5lb lower than when second to Mr Lupton over track and trip 11 months ago. Shared Equity bounced back to form when second at Doncaster and should be keeping on well at the finish, while Ower Fly and Swift Approval are respected with recent outings behind them.

Verdict

Several to consider in this competitive heat, AEOLUS and Shanghai Glory chief among them. The latter, representing last year's winning yard, may not get his favoured soft ground given the dry forecast, a factor which tilts the scales in Aeolus' favour. Indeed, the 7-y-o is versatile ground-wise and features on an attractive mark. Eastern Impact, Barrington and Ekhtiyaar complete the shortlist.

Unbeaten following 3 starts as a juvenile, decisive winner of valuable sales race at the Curragh (6.3f, soft) on latest start in September. Remains open to improvement and he's high on the shortlist.

Verdict

HEY JONESY signed off last season by finishing a three-length fourth behind U S Navy Flag here in the Middle Park and may be able to step up on that performance now tackling 7f for the first time. Nebo is a Group 3 winner on soft ground, having won the Horris Hill when last sighted in October, and looks capable of making his presence felt on these terms. It is unlikely we've seen the best of Godolphin representative Folk Tale over sprint trips so far and he's another potential improver now upped in distance.

Verdict

Not beaten far in the Group 1 Middle Park here on his final 2-y-o start, HEY JONESY could take some stopping if fully tuned-up for this seasonal reappearance. Indeed, Kevin Ryan's charge remains with potential and while he's clearly not short of speed, this step up in trip shouldn't be a problem. Rufus King and the unbeaten Snazzy Jazzy merit respect but the consistent Nebo is feared most.

At his best when the mud is flying, as he demonstrated when landing a listed contest at Newbury last summer. Ended 2017 with a couple of solid efforts in defeat but this demands a career-best.

Verdict

Deauville has been off the track since finishing down the field in the Hong Kong Cup in December and although he's perfectly entitled to come on for this comeback spin and may not peak until later in the year, he's one to monitor closely in the betting as he'd have a class edge over all of his rivals if fully fit. It might be worth taking a chance on ROBIN OF NAVAN, who was given a pipeopener at Chantilly last time and has seen the form of that race franked by the winner (Hunaina) landing a Listed contest at Kempton recently. Master The World has been in great order on the all-weather and is another to consider for the minor money.

Verdict

While DEAUVILLE signed off 2017 on a disappointing note, form such as his excellent third in the Queen Anne earlier in the campaign gives him a clear edge over these rivals. Indeed, if on-song he should prove too good for Robin of Navan, who has yet to strike on these shores but a reproduction of his C&D effort in October would put him firmly in the picture. Forest Ranger is best of the rest.

Promising start to career when overcoming inexperience to land a big-field minor event at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) in August. Looks a decent prospect but this calls for significant improvement.

Verdict

THREADING was disappointing when finishing seventh in the Cheveley Park here in late September but she is clearly better than that. The daughter of Exceed And Excel had beaten the third from that contest when she won the Lowther at York and an undulating course should not be a problem, given that she won her maiden at Goodwood. If she returns to the York form then she will be tough to beat, especially as she is entitled to have improved over the winter. Altyn Orda won the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes over C&D at the end of her juvenile campaign and is an obvious threat to the selection. Nawassi and Soliloquy both arrive here on the back of victories in novice company and they could certainly have the talent to win a race of this nature. Dramatically has to be respected given her connections but they might be using her as a marker for the English form and the daughter of War Front does not appear to be one of Ballydoyle's leading Classic contenders.

Verdict

The pick of these may well be ALTYN ORDA, who improved significantly when opening her account in the C&D Oh So Sharp Stakes in October. She displayed a good attitude on that occasion and further progress is anticipated. Threading's reputation was dented in the Cheveley Park but she will be a big threat if back to the form of her Lowther victory, while Soliloquy and Nawassi are both of interest.

Verdict

HARD FOREST was well supported in the market prior to her debut and the daughter of Hard Spun was less than a length behind the winner on that occasion. She is the only one in this race with experience and that could prove to be vital, especially as she is clearly talented. Mick Channon has made a great start to the season with his juveniles and that means that Chynna and Cotubanama both have to be respected. Although, the newcomer that stands out is Strings Of Life, who represents a yard who had a great record with their two-year-olds first time out last season. The daughter of first-season sire Slade Power is a half-sister to a 6f winner and her family traces back to the likes of Sleepytime and Ali-Royal. Red Hut Red was a 60,000gns yearling and she is closely related to last year's Britannia winner Bless Him, while any market support for Ginger Nut would also have to be noted.

Verdict

HARD FOREST showed plenty when a close third at Newcastle on debut, worn down only in the final 100 yards, and can put her experience to good use up against newcomers. Strings of Life makes plenty of appeal on paper and is feared most ahead of Red Hut Red and Ginger Nut.
