Lightly-raced maiden. 12/1, last of 11 in 1m handicap at Kempton on reappearance 17 days ago. Others preferred.

Verdict

Marshall Dan took advantage of racing for the first time in handicap company when winning at Lingfield back in February and should prove competitive despite this being his first outing on turf. Rivas Rob Roy won at Brighton on his most recent outing and is respected off 5lb higher but a chance is taken with GLOBAL EXCEL. Ed Walker's colt has been knocking on the door on his last two outings over 6f and the extra furlong here is likely to suit with Jamie Spencer taking over in the saddle.

Verdict

This looks very open. The form of DIRECTORY's Kempton third received a boost when the third won next time and he gets a tentative vote. Global Excel promises to be suited by the return to 7f and is much respected under Spencer, while Haverland arrives on the back of a couple of solid efforts on AW.

Well beaten in a pair of nurseries to end his 2-y-o campaign. Likely he's best watched on return to action.

Verdict

WARSAAN was fourth on his return to action at Kempton having pulled too hard behind Harbour Pilot last month and the drop in trip combined with the application of a first-time hood can both eke out the improvement required. Austin Powers has been gelded since his most recent start and could well benefit from that, while Onefootinparadise and Lethal Angel look best of the remainder.

Verdict

WARSAAN failed to justify favouritism on his handicap debut/reappearance but looks worth another chance, particularly if a first-time hood helps him to settle better. Onefootinparadise merits respect on the back of a good second at Beverley 3 weeks ago, while Charles Fox lacked a change of gear dropped to 6f after a break last time but retains potential back at 7f.

Fourteen runs since last win in 2016. 50/1, good second of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford last July but hasn't been seen since.

Verdict

LOUJAIN looked in need of the outing when down the field on his return to action at Nottingham on handicap debut but the drop back down to 7f will also pose no concern given he's posted some decent efforts at the trip in maidens. Balgair went down by a head on his return at Brighton and could benefit from the application of a hood, while Del Parco may have more to offer after winning well at Lingfield last week.

Verdict

BALGAIR surely would have won on his Brighton reappearance but for pulling hard and holds a good chance of going one better off the same mark if a first-time hood helps him to relax. Del Parco was likely helped by racing against the rail at Lingfield last week but still merits respect under a penalty, while a case can also be made for Nick Vedder if his latest poor run can be ignored.

Maiden winner for Andrew Balding in 2016. Good return from an absence when second in 8.5f Epsom novice for new yard last month and has the potential for better still now handicapping up in trip.

Verdict

GARRICK appeals as the type to make up into a better horse this season having seemingly taken time to come to hand for John Gosden and the son of Galileo can prove to be better than his mark of 84 suggests. Lunar Jet got the better of Adamant at Newbury on his latest outing and may have more improvement to come, while Simoon is likely to benefit for a step up in trip being a son of Sixties Icon.

Verdict

LUNAR JET impressed with the way he travelled when landing a competitive heat on his Newbury reappearance and might be up to defying a rise in the weights. Garrick surely has more to offer after only 3 starts and rates an obvious danger, while Simoon made an encouraging return from an absence when second at Epsom and is another with the potential for better.

Useful filly who won 3 times last season. Undone by testing ground at Musselburgh on return, so expect a return to form here.

Verdict

SHABEEB settled better when fourth at Epsom last time in a hot race and looks ideally suited by this return to a smaller field. The better ground and additional couple of furlongs should also assist the five-year-old, who looks to have more scope for improvement than the more exposed Soldier In Action. Course winner Moonrise Landing looks the main danger after looking badly in need of the run at Ripon last month, and a return to anything like the form which saw her win a York Listed race two years ago would make her a major player.

Verdict

SOLDIER IN ACTION has been keeping better company on his last 3 starts and, having given an indication that he's back in form last time, he's taken to get back to winning ways under a positive ride in a race that lacks other potential front runners. Shabeeb has been knocking on the door and should provide stern opposition along with Amazing Red.

Is one for handicaps after another run, no aspirations of getting involved in this.

Verdict

HERCULEAN displayed an impressive attitude when winning on debut at Ascot last autumn and the son of Frankel can build on that impression here. A brother to smart stablemate Fair Eva, he looks likely to be suited by this step up in distance and it is worth noting that he remains entered in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace at Royal Ascot. Wadilsafa was second to the selection last time but looks unlikely to reverse the form and Cogital rates a bigger danger after two impressive runs in hot races recently.

Verdict

Potential superstar HERCULEAN is an obvious choice as he tries to confirm the huge impression made when justifying short odds in excellent style at Ascot 8 months ago. Wadilsafa was behind the selection on that occasion and is taken to come out best of the rest again, with Elhafei also considered.

C&D winner never on terms from poor draw at Chester last week but work to do all the same back here.

Verdict

WARSAW ROAD looked ready for a step back up in trip when a staying-on fourth on his reappearance over 7f at Kempton and, competing off the same mark on his second start of the season, he looks sure to go close. Knight Owl has won over 1m1f at the track in the past and also ran well over C&D on his latest outing in September. He must enter calculations back from a 232-day break, while My Target is another course winner with place credentials.

Verdict

There should be plenty more to come from WARSAW ROAD after his encouraging comeback at Kempton and he can resume winning ways. Almoreb is feared most ahead of Knight Owl, who nearly always goes well on the Rowley Mile.
