Dubawi colt who has improved again this term, landing a C&D handicap in April. Lost little caste in defeat in a listed contest latest, just lacking superior turn of foot of stable mate. Big player.

Verdict

After defying top weight in a C&D handicap on his comeback at the Craven meeting, OLD PERSIAN found only unbeaten stable companion Key Victory too strong in the Newmarket Stakes, proving he belongs at this Listed level at least. Court House gave Gronkowski a bit of a fright at Kempton and is fancied to claim the runner-up spot ahead of the well-related and expensive Department Of War, who was impressive at Nottingham.

Verdict

A trio of 3-y-o's all on the up with the vote in favour of OLD PERSIAN. Charlie Appleby's colt was only beaten by a highly-promising stablemate in a C&D listed contest on his most recent start. His effectiveness at this track may well count for plenty and he should prove hard to beat. Department Of War is preferred to Court House for the second spot.

Smart effort when off when edging out Symbolization (won next time) in C&D conditions event at the Craven meeting last month. Sets a clear standard on that effort.

Verdict

Great Prospector has been gelded since struggling in the Free Handicap but while that should prompt improvement, he has ground to make up on PURSER, who was a place ahead of him in fourth in Newcastle's Burradon Stakes and has since accounted for a subsequent winner when triumphing over this track and trip at the Craven meeting. Aurum made a victorious debut on the same day and is the unknown quantity in the race, although Mutaaqeb also has any amount of improvement in him and showed talent at two.

Verdict

PURSER's C&D win at the Craven meeting received a boost when the runner-up won a good handicap on 2000 Guineas day and he can notch a first success at listed level. Mutaaqeb should have more to offer this year and could provide the main threat ahead of Charlie Appleby's C&D debut winner Aurum.

Deservedly got his head in front when landing an AW minor event (5.1f) last month but looks pretty exposed and likely to find a few too good.

Verdict

Wahoo's rivals didn't see which way he went on his Doncaster reappearance, but he is unlikely to get as easy a time up in front here, with Midsummer Knight and Yafta also preferring to force the issue, and the latter had the disappointing Chagatai well behind him when an excellent second at the Guineas meeting. His stablemate Mayyasah is interesting on her return, as is Red Roman, but SHOWMETHEDOUGH gets a swift opportunity for redemption after finding 5f too sharp at Chester last week and he is worth another chance.

Verdict

Richard Fahey has saddled the winner of this race twice since 2011 and SHOWMETHEDOUGH could be another for the yard. He has shaped well in a couple of 5f runs this year and may be seen in an even better light back up in trip on this galloping track. Tricksy Spirit is on an upward curve and, along with Yafta, she has to be feared. Conversely, Wahoo and Red Roman may find conditions too lively.

Verdict

Queen Shaahd was beaten less than a length at Bath but the standard she sets isn't too high so it should pay to concentrate on the unraced brigade. Beyond Reason is the first progeny of Australia to hit the track and fetched 370,000 euros as a yearling, but ANGEL'S HIDEAWAY was even more expensive and the daughter of Dark Angel is bred to be speedy. New Winds, Thebah and Keska are all worth a second glance in a very interesting contest.

Verdict

A number of newcomers appeal on paper, chief amongst them BEYOND REASON. A 370,000 gns purchase, she represents a yard enjoying a good season and earns the vote without the benefit of market clues. Thebah represents last year's winning stable and is feared, along with Angel's Hideaway and Queen Shaahd.

Verdict

DESERT FROST has very few miles on the clock but showed that he can reward Saeed bin Suroor's patience when a close-up second at Newcastle last month. Considering that was his first appearance since he finished last in the King Charles II Stakes on this card 12 months ago, he is entitled to strip much sharper and has a race-fitness edge over Horsted Keynes, who was consistent last year but isn't getting any younger. Mountain Rescue is better than he showed at Yarmouth, while two efforts at Doncaster have suggested that Colonel Frank is on a workable mark.

Verdict

DESERT FROST shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up at Newcastle on his reappearance, and he appeals as the type to do better again now heading into handicaps (well-bred and remains lightly raced). Holiday Magic had excuses returned to turf last time and he shouldn't be written off from this mark, with Mountain Rescue another to consider, especially now his yard is back among the winners.

Teofilo filly. Closely related to 1¼m winner Lybica and 13f winner Tingleo and half-sister to 8.6f winner Toumar. Interesting newcomer.

Verdict

HAMEEM, a 500,000-euro yearling, has let down favourite-backers on both of her starts so far but there was plenty of encouragement to take from her recent performance when just touched off at Lingfield, and John Gosden has put her in the Ribblesdale. Phantasmic stepped forward from her sole juvenile effort to hit the crossbar at Wolverhampton, although the winner didn't do a massive amount for the form in the Lingfield Oaks Trial. Outlane and Snax are bred to improve with age, and the debutant Turaya should also be most effective given a test of stamina.

Verdict

This is probably between HAMEEM and Phantasmic, both well-bred fillies from top stables who are set to improve throughout this season. They are hard to split, but marginal preference is for the former who is set to relish this step up in trip. Newcomer Turaya makes most appeal of the others.

Career best when winning handicap at Chelmsford City in February, but down the field at Windsor earlier in the month and probably needs more respite with his mark before he's of interest on turf.

Verdict

The veteran MOVE IN TIME showed that he retains plenty of enthusiasm for the game when a solid second over track and trip, with Wednesday's impressive York scorer George Bowen a couple of places behind him. Paul Midgley's grand campaigner is preferred to Mr Pocket, who made a successful start to life with Robert Cowell at Brighton. Daschas is better than his Windsor finishing position suggests, and his stable companion Shamshon is also in with a shout.

Verdict

MR POCKET has been rated in the 80s in the past for Paul Cole and is very much the type to excel for his new yard, so he's taken to follow up his determined Brighton success up against a bunch that have questions to answer in the main. Move In Time is the most solid alternative in terms of recent form and Oh So Sassy can be expected to step up on her reappearance.
