Verdict

OPTIMA PETAMUS was touched off by a short-head over C&D three weeks ago and can compete off an unchanged mark today. He boasts a moderate career strike-rate of 1-33 but the form of his last race is working out well enough with the fourth, Castle Talbot, winning subsequently. Orobas was beaten by under a length off this mark at Newcastle last time and has claims, likewise recent Lingfield third Full Suit.

Verdict

TRAVELTALK needs forgiving a lesser effort at Beverley on his most recent start but he had previously gone close from a 1 lb higher mark over C&D in June, and he could represent a spot of value in a wide open contest. Orobas and Ravenhoe are a couple of others to consider.

Verdict

SLOWMO struck at the third time of asking in a 5f novice contest at Bath and is expected to mount a bold bid off an opening mark of 73 now upped in distance and sent handicapping. Balata Bay, a 6f winner at Chepstow in June, needs to step up on his latest effort at Doncaster in order to figure. Mark's Choice has been steadily improving in novice company and is another handicap debutant to consider.

Verdict

SLOWMO showed improved form to make it third time lucky at Bath 3 weeks ago, and with the return to 6f expected to suit, all looks set fair for a big run now handicapping. Balata Bay is feared most ahead of Oona who is stepping back up in trip.

Verdict

SOOTABILITY was putting in her best work at the finish when scoring over 7f at Thirsk last month and this step up in trip could help her defy her penalty. Richard Hannon's newcomer Sweet Pearl, a daughter of smart middle-distance performer/stayer Dunaden, is bred to come into her own when stepped up in trip later down the line so perhaps the main danger may be Mark Johnston's newcomer Cape Islay, who is a sister to useful 7f to 1m winner Emboss.

Verdict

SOOTABILITY was surprisingly weak in the market but ultimately looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at Thirsk last month and, with improvement a distinct possibility, she is fancied to concede weight all round and make it 2-2. Divinity may emerge as the chief threat.

Verdict

THE PINTO KID has been a slow burner for a patient trainer in James Fanshawe and he is best judged on his second start when finishing fifth at Lingfield, which came on similar ground to what he will encounter here. An opening mark of 70 looks fair for the son of High Chaparral and he has the scope to improve in this sphere. Burn Some Dust benefited from a step up in trip when winning over 1m4f at Newcastle and she could have more to offer along with Affair, who was second over C&D last time.

Verdict

BURN SOME DUST benefited from the marked step up in trip when scoring at Newcastle 3 weeks ago and, with the even longer trip expected to be within reach, all looks set fair for a big run. Affair is proving consistent and should be thereabouts, whilst The Pinto Kid is another 3-y-o likely to improve.

Useful gelding. 16/1, creditable tenth of 20 in handicap at York (6f, good to firm) 59 days ago, not well placed enough to figure. Not dismissed in receipt of weight all round.

Verdict

Blue De Vega gained his first success since October 2015 when winning a handicap at Ascot at the end of last month but has to back that effort up after a gelding operation. Tarboosh arrives in search of the hat-trick after taking two similar contests at Newmarket and Hamilton, but BENGALI BOYS makes the most appeal. Fast ground looked to be against him at York last time so more testing underfoot conditions will suit and he is another in the field to have been gelded since his last start, which could also eke out improvement.

Verdict

TARBOOSH confirmed his return to form when scoring readily at Hamilton 10 days ago and he is fancied to continue the good work and complete the hat-trick. 3-y-o Bengali Boys can emerge as the leading threat.

Career best when winning 9-runner handicap at Lingfield (5f, AW, 9/4) 15 days ago, forging clear. Strike rate is not the most compelling but has to merit respect with a repeat here.

Verdict

Despite not getting his head in front since July last year, MAJOR VALENTINE has continued to be a consistent performer and hinted at getting back on the scoresheet when beaten less than a length last time. He is now 8lb lower than his last winning mark and having scored off this figure over course and distance in the past, John O'Shea's gelding is backed to play a leading role here. Easy Lingfield winner Spin Top looks the main danger despite a 7lb higher mark to contend with, while track-and-trip winner Lexington Place has been running with credit of late and would be foolish to leave out of calculations.

Verdict

MAJOR VALENTINE signalled a return to form when a close-up fourth at Chepstow 6 days ago and, given he is well treated on the pick of last season's exploits, he could be worth chancing to resume winning ways. Easy Lingfield scorer Spin Top and Lexington Place are also considered, though market support for 3-y-o Rolladice would put a different spin on things.

Lightly-raced maiden. 14/1, last of 13 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 21 days ago, not clear run. Others more persuasive.

Verdict

Yarmouth winner At Your Service went close on his stable debut for Paul Howling last month and is sure to be popular once again, while William Muir's Lingfield second Secret Agent almost caused a surprise last time and is respected. However, preference is for SEARANGER, who was only a nose away at Catterick when last seen and is entitled to be involved again having scored off this rating in the past.

Verdict

SEARANGER is a likeable sort, and having only just failed to resume winning ways at Catterick 3 weeks ago, he is fancied to make a bold bid once more. At Your Service and Secret Agent are a couple of others to consider however in a competitive finale.
