Mid-field on debut last of 8 in a claimer since.

Mid-field on debut last of 8 in a claimer since.

Verdict

MOKAATIL sets the standard with a good fourth in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and although he found one too good when sent off odds-on at Wolverhampton latest, the switch back to turf should suit. He is taken to get the better of Harrogate, who left his debut well behind when a neck second at Thirsk and there should be more to come from James Bethell's charge. Biddy Brady rates best of the remainder.

Verdict

MOKAATIL didn't look straightforward when failing to land the odds at Wolverhampton last month, but his yard couldn't be in better form and he's well worth another chance in a maiden of this nature. Harrogate is probably best placed to take advantage were the selection to fluff his lines again.

Verdict

Porchy Party made all to get off the mark at Carlisle last week and should make another bold bid, but a 6lb penalty could make him vulnerable and preference is for QAARAAT. Third on both starts since being gelded, Ed Dunlop's charge could be weighted to strike now with further progress possible. Undercover Brother was placed at Beverley latest and can have his say too.

Verdict

Plenty went PORCHY PARTY'S way when he was successful at Carlisle a week ago, but he did show a willing attitude and his rider's claim nearly offsets his penalty, so a bold follow-up bid is on the cards. Seen The Lyte and Donny Belle have yet to win but are all speed, so the return to the minimum trip can only help.

Latest win at Newbury in June. 22/1, good fourth of 8 in handicap at this C&D (good) 16 days ago, never nearer. Expected to be bang there from the same mark.

Verdict

A tricky handicap puzzle to solve but there is plenty to like about the chances of BUSY STREET, who only went down by a three-quarters of a length at Haydock off the same mark. Tamayuz Magic has also been threatening to score, including when runner-up over this C&D two starts ago, and looks set for another bold bid. Sellingallthetime has been knocking on the door and hinted his turn may be near when runner-up at Catterick 17 days ago.

Verdict

KING'S COINAGE again left the impression that he has an even bigger performance in his locker when fourth over C&D a fortnight ago, finishing with running left having been denied a clear run, so he could well be the answer at the foot of the weights. Redicean takes a marked drop in class and is feared, along with fellow 3-y-o Zack Mayo.

Latest win at Pontefract in August. 5 lengths sixth of 9 to Tarboosh in handicap (14/1) at Carlisle (5f, soft) 12 days ago.

Verdict

Aleef would have strong claims if picking up where he left off, when going close to a double in a valuable handicap at Chelmsford in November, but the layoff is a concern and preference is for EXCESSABLE. Tim Easterby's four-year-old bounced back to form with a career-best victory at York and a 4lb rise may not be enough to halt him with previous C&D-winning form in the book. Tarboosh has also won over this track and trip and arrives on the back of a victory, albeit by the shortest of margins off 3lb lower.

Verdict

Several of these arrive in top form, but at the likely prices it could be worth siding with STANGHOW given he did as well as he could from a bad draw at Chester last week and has fared better in that department this time. Excessable and Tarboosh will doubtless have their followers in what is a good-quality handicap.

C&D winner. 11/4, respectable third of 8 in handicap at Carlisle (6.9f, good to soft) 6 days ago. Cheekpieces on first time. Can make presence felt.

Verdict

PENNY POT LANE has been running well in defeat off this mark and a switch back to this track, where both her wins have come, and the application of first-time cheekpieces could work the oracle. Thankyou Stars makes her handicap debut having placed on all three maiden starts and is sure to have her supporters, but she was turned over at 1/16 when last seen and that tempers enthusiasm on her comeback. Perfect Madge filled the runner-up spot at Newmarket last month and is edging closer to the target.

Verdict

PERFECT MADGE turned in a big career best when runner-up to decisive York winner Mojito at Newmarket, and not only is a 1 lb rise lenient (third won next time, too), but this is also a slight drop in class, so her claims are pretty obvious back in trip. The return to 6f will suit Penny Pot Lane and she is offered for forecast purposes.

Promising type. 9½ lengths fifth of 7 to Mori in listed race at Goodwood (9.9f, good to firm, 13/2). Off 102 days. Blinkers on first time. Chance is there for all to see.

Verdict

Roger Varian is 5-9 with his runners here this year and can enhance that impressive strike-rate with GAKKU. Following a short-head defeat on debut, she was thrown into a hot Listed race at Goodwood when last seen in May and emerged with credit, so should be too hot for these on her return to action. Ludorum ran a nice race in fourth over 1m at Pontefract second time out and looks the main threat with this step up in trip likely to suit. Royal Headley could pick up the bronze medal.

Verdict

GAKKU found listed company too much at Goodwood when last seen in May, but had shaped well in second on debut prior to that and this is a back-end maiden that is there for the taking assuming she reacts positively to headgear. Ludorum was late coming to the track but shapes as though this trip will suit and is the obvious threat.
