Irish point winner who is yet to make an impression under Rules and, although showing a bit more promise switched to chasing last time, is unlikely to be suited by this drop in trip.

Verdict

Clondaw Westie signed off last term with a chase treble and is worth considering closely on his seasonal return. With the benefit of a recent run to his name, however, preference is instead for penalised Musselburgh scorer CAP ST VINCENT, who had seven lengths in hand at the line in Scotland and arrives on a hat-trick. Darebin has winning C&D form in the book and could also figure if building on a promising run at Fakenham last month.

Verdict

The race that ENOLA GAY contested last time was a fair bit more competitive than the events that both Cap St Vincent and Clondaw Westie have landed whilst racking up multiple wins so, while that prolific pair are regarded as big players, the first-named could be the one to come out on top if his jumping is a little more assured.

Fair stayer on the Flat and best effort when third at Kempton last month. Starts out over hurdles in a potentially warm race, though.

Fair stayer on the Flat and best effort when third at Kempton last month. Starts out over hurdles in a potentially warm race, though.

Verdict

DENILIQUIN boasts winning hurdles form in France and is worth monitoring closely in the betting now debuting for Paul Nicholls. Similar comments are applicable to Nigel Twiston-Davies' new recruit, Torpillo, who is sporting a hood on his UK bow. Belargus and Il Re Di Nessuno are other French imports to consider on debut for new connections, though they have been successful on the Flat and lack the hurdling experience of the aforementioned pair.

Verdict

An intriguing race. IL RE DI NESSUNO reached a useful level on the Flat in Italy and is selected to make a winning British/hurdling debut for a yard that often introduces its nicer types at this venue. Deniliquin and Torpillo are equally interesting though, setting out for leading connections, having both made successful hurdling debuts in France.

Fair winning hurdler. Will need to step up plenty on best form if she's to make a successful chase bow after 8 months off.

Verdict

Paul Nicholls won this contest 12 months ago and has another live candidate in MAGOO. The French import underwent wind surgery before making a winning debut on these shores at Fontwell over hurdles in March. He's now debuting over fences and is expected to know his job first time out. The Bottom Bar and Oh Land Abloom have place claims if building on solid recent efforts over timber, while recent C&D second Lithic is unlikely to be far away either, despite a 3lb rise.

Verdict

A race that should throw up a heap of winners over fences and TURTLE WARS is selected to make a successful start in this sphere. He was a good fifth in the EBF Novices' Final here when last seen and looks a cracking chaser in the making. Stablemate The Bottom Bar is of firm interest also, along with Fontwell-winner Glen Rocco and Magoo.

Verdict

DOWN THE HIGHWAY has won between the flags and made a pleasing introduction to his career under Rules, hacking up over the extended 2m3f at Lingfield last month. He's having his second run for Emma Lavelle this afternoon and is an interesting prospect now pitched into Grade 2 company. Alan King has won four of the last nine renewals and so his unbeaten Alsa Mix commands the utmost respect. Grade 3-placed over fences, Paul Nicholls' French import My Way is also worth a market check, having undergone a breathing operation ahead of his UK bow.

Verdict

DOWN THE HIGHWAY created a good impression at Lingfield last month and looks the type to go on to better things. A late stumble didn’t help Mercy Mercy Me on hurdling debut, so it would come as no surprise if he were to get closer to the selection this time round. Darlac perhaps wasn’t seen to best advantage in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham and remains open to improvement.

Successful 3 time already over fences this term and credited with his best effort yet when runner-up at Cheltenham (25f) in October, running on. Still low mileage and further progress not ruled out.

Verdict

FIFTY SHADES was touched off by under a length over 3m1f at Cheltenham last time but he pulled nicely clear of the remainder and is expected to remain competitive off this 3lb higher mark. First-time cheekpieces could be a source of immediate improvement for the selection's stablemate, Potters Corner, who had a recent outing at Exeter, though the main danger may be grade dropper Mendip Express.

Verdict

FIFTY SHADES progressed steadily at a low level during the summer and there was no doubting he produced his best effort yet when second at Cheltenham in October without being seen to best effect. He may yet have more to offer and shades the vote. Mendip Express is likely to step up on his recent C&D comeback, whilst Knockanrawley also appeals from his reduced mark.

Fair winner on the Flat and placed 3 times over hurdles, though he weakened alarmingly prior to falling at the last at Wincanton last time (first-time cheekpieces, retained).

Verdict

MY BROTHER hinted his winning turn was fast approaching when runner-up at Cheltenham three weeks ago and is expected to step up on that effort now eased into 0-120 company. Thistimenextyear was active on the level this year and it would come as no surprise to see him figure on his first handicap start over hurdles, while Malangen looked held when falling at Wincanton recently but has place claims on his earlier efforts over timber.

Verdict

THISTIMENEXTYEAR found only one too good twice in maiden company last season and has since doubled his Flat tally. There should be plenty more to come from him in this sphere and he looks the way to go on handicap debut. My Brother and Shaw's Cross posted solid efforts last time and head the opposition.
