Verdict

STARKIE won by 20 lengths with plenty in hand at Plumpton a week ago and if he is in the same form today then the 10-year-old is likely to taste victory once again. Unzing was a narrow second over C&D last time out and he should be in mix again this afternoon. Contre Tous has been disappointing in two starts for Paul Nicholls but it is too soon to be writing off the youngster.

Verdict

STARKIE may have only landed a small-field affair at Plumpton last week, but he got the job done in no uncertain terms, and he looks worth siding with under a penalty. Unzing who was second over C&D on his most recent start and Ypsilanti head up the dangers in an interesting race of its type.

Looked better than ever when winning back-to-back races over both fences and hurdles last May. Can't have been right when pulled up over fences in August and off 7 months since.

Verdict

JOHNS LUCK has been in great form in recent months and his last two starts have proven that he can be competitive from his current mark. Mister Grez only found a well-handicapped rival too good last time out and that was a step in the right direction for the veteran. Others to make the shortlist are Agincourt Reef and Ballycoe, while Little Jimmy would also have each-way claims today.

Verdict

The manner in which JOHNS LUCK travelled at Ffos Las earlier this month suggests he's still on a good mark and he can resume winning ways under conditions which are likely to place much less emphasis on stamina. Mister Grez was back on song when second over fences last time, while Ballycoe also merits respect for a yard in excellent form at present.

No promise in a bumper and 2 starts over hurdles (beaten 28 lengths when fourth last time).

Verdict

Bobo Mac made a promising first start for Tom Symonds at Ludlow last month, finishing second in a competitive contest behind a potentially smart winner. Potters Approach has been thought capable of better by Warren Greatrex but needs to show something after a laboured performance last time out. He is likely to do much better now but GIBBES BAY has less to prove for now and the five-year-old should find this assignment easier than at Hereford last time. Connections had a nice winner in a consolation race at Kempton on Saturday and Paul Nicholls' charge remains in decent form despite firing in just one Cheltenham winner last week.

Verdict

BOBO MAC brings some fairly useful form to the table and looks the most solid option after making a good start for new connections at Ludlow last month. Gibbes Bay was only fifth on his hurdling bow in December but this bumper winner should still have plenty more to offer in this sphere. Harry Fry's Royalzaro has been off a while but showed plenty of promise on the first of 2 bumper runs.

Poor maiden on the Flat in France and, though he posted his best effort yet over hurdles when third at Wetherby (2m) last month, minor place money is probably the best he can hope for.

Poor maiden on the Flat in France and, though he posted his best effort yet over hurdles when third at Wetherby (2m) last month, minor place money is probably the best he can hope for.

Verdict

Caroline Bailey has her string in fine form currently (4-9 in the last fortnight) and she landed the spoils in this contest last year. XHALE provides the Northamptonshire-based handler with another excellent opportunity and the five-year-old showed signs of promise at Wetherby last time out, finishing third and relishing the decent ground. He will need to go up in trip in time but he can land this, possibly at the main expense of recent Bangor scorer Beggar's Wishes. Vocaliser tries a new headgear combination and needs a market check.

Verdict

A chance is taken on RYEOLLIEAN, who hasn't shown a great deal in 2 starts so far this season but was always likely to be a tad rusty following a lengthy layoff. The handicapper is showing mercy and the drying ground will be in his favour. Hill Fort also figures on a handy mark now and will be a danger to all if back to his best, while Hear The Chimes and Camron de Chaillac are others to consider.

Three of his 4 victories under Rules have been gained at this course. Has rejoined former yard following a stint with Keith Reveley and he's not entirely ruled out back from a 7-month break.

Verdict

GOOD MAN HUGHIE was well backed when landing the odds at Lingfield at the end of January and a 6lb rise in the weights shouldn't be enough to stop Gary Moore's charge from doubling up in what doesn't appear the strongest contest on paper. Early Retirement appeared to resent testing ground at Towcester in early February and represents Caroline Bailey who has a fine record at the track, while Uncle Percy is entitled to improve now running in handicaps with first-time cheekpieces.

Verdict

EARLY RETIREMENT got bogged down in the mud at Towcester and is well worth another chance back on better ground here, having posted an improved effort when runner-up on his handicap debut at Warwick previously. Dothraki Raider has been absent since scoring at Fakenham in October, but he remains unexposed and will be a live danger if fully tuned up. Scartare is also worth a second look.
