Verdict

William Haggas and Ben Curtis landed this contest last season and with the handler in fine form so far this term, he could land this again with Ascot second QUEEN OF BERMUDA, who cost 230,000gns as a yearling. Richard Fahey has had a few triumphs in this sphere of late and his Red Balloons requires a market check, while Key To Power is a half-sister to a dual winner of Godolphin's and is also respected.

Verdict

QUEEN OF BERMUDA was gambled on and showed plenty of ability when runner-up on debut at Ascot 8 days ago, coming from further back than the other principals, but staying on under considerate handling. She should prove hard to beat, with My Excelsa feared most, ahead of newcomers Key To Power and Red Balloons.

6/1, seventh of 9 in maiden at Newmarket (5f, good, 6/1) on debut 31 days ago. Likely to improve.

Verdict

Richard Fahey has a fine record in this race and everything points to the 52,000-euro yearling Akela Moon playing a prominent role here. Improvising will perhaps require further in time, while Red Hut Red will need to build on her outing at Newmarket last time. Preference is for Archie Watson's LUCHADOR, who wasn't disgraced on her first turf outing last time and her experience could count in this.

Verdict

Those with experience don't set the bar particularly high and it may be worth chancing AKELA MOON to continue the good start of first-season sire Bungle Inthejungle. Luchador has shown a fair level of ability and should figure again, while Red Hut Red and Improvising are likely to build on mildly-encouraging debuts.

Verdict

ACCLAIM THE NATION scored with a bit in hand over this course and distance earlier this month and a 5lb higher mark may not be enough to stop the Acclamation gelding following up here. Henley is a consistent performer who has dropped to his last winning mark, while Ruth Carr's pair of Liberatum and Suwaan are others that arrive here in good order.

Verdict

This looks wide open and a chance is taken on TANASOQ. Paul Midgley's charge was unlucky to bump into a well-handicapped sort at Beverley 2 starts ago (clear of remainder) and with his latest Musselburgh effort easily overlooked, he could represent a spot of value. Computable gets a handy swing at the weights with re-opposing Acclaim The Nation and that pair, along with Longroom, are feared most.

Verdict

HELOVAPLAN made a reappearance full of promise at Musselburgh earlier in the month and, off the same mark, he's expected to go very well back at a mile, over which he won twice last season. Add to that he's 1-1 at this track and there is plenty to like about this son of Helmet. Fingal's Cave put a disappointing seasonal debut run at Doncaster behind when fourth at Catterick latest and he joins Archie on the shortlist.

Verdict

CLUB WEXFORD offered enough to suggest he retains his ability when mid-division at Wetherby on his first outing for this yard and might be worth siding with to build on that as he's well treated on the pick of his Irish form. Helovaplan is respected on the back of his Musselburgh reappearance third, while Wasm is a bit tricky but there were positives to take from his latest effort over C&D.

C&D winner. Back to form when 2½ lengths second of 10 to Tawny Port in handicap at Pontefract (6f, heavy) 17 days ago. Can give another good account.

Verdict

TAWNY PORT will prove popular following what was an impressive Pontefract success at the beginning of the month and given that he's 5-9 over the trip. In receipt of weight and sneaking in at the bottom is Van Gerwen, second behind the selection latest but better off with that rival on these revised terms, while chances are also given to Captain Colby, a decent third at Newmarket in a better race latest, and Rasheeq.

Verdict

It's unlikely to take Mick Appleby long to get the best out of BARRINGTON and he might be worth chancing having shaped a lot better than the result on his reappearance last month. Recent Pontefract 1-2Tawny Port and Van Gerwen are likely to get involved again, while Rasheeq's latest C&D effort was too bad to be true and he's shaped well on reappearance prior to that.
