Dual winner over 6f last season but also unreliable and may need this return.

Verdict

A very tricky contest to open the card but the marginal preference is for ZYLAN, who bolted up at Southwell last time out and that followed a narrow defeat when third at Catterick. Foolaad is another in-form participant to note, while the unexposed African Blessing may have more to offer this year as a four-year-old. Those looking for each-way alternatives should consider Be Bold and Gilmer.

Verdict

ZYLAN is in the form of his life and can win again if carrying on the good work back on turf. African Blessing remains an unexposed sprinter to keep on side for David Barron, while the red-hot Foolaad and Storm Trooper for a new yard are also interesting.

Belatedly shed maiden tag in 6f Redcar handicap final start in 2016, digging deep. Returns off a fair mark and could figure.

Verdict

In a trappy heat it could pay to concentrate on those towards the foot of the handicap. EPEIUS wasn't winning out of turn on his seasonal bow at Newcastle last month and could prove to be a real money-spinner for connections this year following that breakthrough success. Questo will be thereabouts if picking up from where he left off at Redcar last year, while chances are also given to Ancient Astronaut and Top of The Bank.

Verdict

MORE BEAU ran well first time up after a long time off last season and looks very interesting with Paul Hanagan up. Epeius made a successful reappearance at Newcastle and is respected, while the very well-bred First Rate remains low mileage for his new yard.

Verdict

Richard Fahey's NOAH AMOR was a game winner when scoring over six furlongs at Redcar and can make another bold bid today in the hands of talented apprentice Conor Murtagh, who takes off a valuable 7lb. Course and distance winner Roaring Rory can go well here once again with his latest Catterick effort encouraging, while Precious Skye is interesting on his first start since leaving David O'Meara and is one to note for any support.

Verdict

NOAH AMOR didn't need to be at his best to land a Redcar seller on debut for his red-hot yard 12 days ago, and more of the same may well be good enough here. Roaring Rory should appreciate the return to calmer waters and is feared most.

Smart on his day but not at his best in 2016, and rather in-and-out this year too, starting out over in Meydan.

Verdict

All eyes will be on CUSTOM CUT who is the clear form pick with an official rating of 110 and ran a really good race when finishing sixth in Listed company at Doncaster on his recent reappearance. Placed in Group company on numerous occasions last season, he should be able to take advantage of this drop in class. Kentuckyconnection was fifth in the 2000 Guineas last April but he went off the boil subsequently while Miracle of Medinah, although very useful, needs a personal best to land this.

Verdict

CUSTOM CUT's Doncaster reappearance wasn't exactly brimming with promise and he now takes a drop in trip, but he really ought to be too good for these rivals off level weights. Kentuckyconnection isn't that easy to assess ahead of his 4-y-o campaign (has been gelded) but he may give the selection most to think about.

Verdict

PLATA O PLOMO showed plenty of ability and speed in a short juvenile campaign last year and he made a pleasing return to action in a conditions race at Nottingham recently. Back in handicap company today, the son of Paco Boy should have a race in him from his current mark. Scuzeme only found one too good in a similar race last time out and he could pose the biggest threat, while Hemingway and Jack Flash are also noted.

Verdict

SCUZEME was caught further back than ideal but still shaped promisingly on handicap debut at Nottingham recently, running on for second. He gets the nod to confirm himself on a handy mark with further progress in the offing. Computable, who rates the type to make his mark in this sort of affair and Plata O Plomo, with a run under his belt, are next best.

Gained breakthrough success in Doncaster handicap last term, and doubled his tally when dead-heating at Newcastle in December. Recent reappearance effort best overlooked and he's in with a shout.

Verdict

Brian Ellison has a number of interesting contenders here with Green Light seemingly well handicapped at present and Sikandar expected to improve on his Doncaster reappearance run. Gabrial's King looks to be on a good mark as he returns for the in-form Richard Fahey stable but it could be worth sticking with THE RESDEV WAY. Highly progressive last year, he still appeals as one who could have plenty more to offer and he will break from a handy draw this afternoon.

Verdict

The majority of these have something to prove for one reason or another, but MUKHAYYAM looks pretty solid. Indeed, he held his form well in 2016 and could be ready to strike following an encouraging reappearance spin at Catterick. Green Light looks the pick of the Brian Ellison-trained trio and he has to be feared, while Gabrial's King and Airton are others to consider.
