Dual winner of handicap hurdles last year but has run poorly the last twice and is hard to recommend with confidence.

Verdict

MORTENS LEAM returned to form when supported in the betting here last month and probably would have won had he proved a more willing partner after the second last hurdle. Harry Bannister is one of the better conditional riders on the circuit and he can get the five-year-old home, probably at the expense of Dear Sire, who remains with potential and ran well in a hot race at Sedgefield recently. Dual-purpose type My Mo could prove best of the remainder.

Verdict

MORTENS LEAM got back on track when a fine third over C&D last time and makes fair appeal off the same mark in the opener. Allfredandnobell ran right up to his best last time and is feared most on handicap debut, whilst return of headgear could see Monfass back to his best.

Fairly useful hurdler/chaser for Micky Hammond who took a step firmly back in right direction for present yard when third at Kelso (17f) 2 weeks ago, setting a strong gallop. Claims with a repeat.

Verdict

This renewal could be at the mercy of HONOURABLE GENT, who impressed over course and distance 10 days ago when winning on his first start since September 2015. An 8lb rise might not be enough to prevent further success for Rose Dobbin's charge, and he can account for hat-trick-chasing Star Presenter, who attempts to repeat the trick of the selection on his first appearance since January 2016. Vodka Wells and Jethro both arrive with a bit to find.

Verdict

HONOURABLE GENT made light of a lengthy absence when scoring in convincing fashion over C&D earlier this month. He's still relatively unexposed in this sphere and earns the narrow vote. Vodka Wells may emerge as the chief threat.

Catterick bumper debut in November not devoid of promise but not built on that in 2 subsequent outings. However, she wouldn't have to be any great shakes to play a part on hurdles debut.

Verdict

Celestial Dancer is yet to fire since joining Nigel Twiston-Davies but could be suited by a first try in this sphere, while Strands Of Velvet represents shrewd connections and ran creditably in a Catterick bumper that hasn't worked out too badly last month. SHENEEDEDTHERUN stepped up to run a career best fourth at Southwell in novice company last time out (the winner won a Listed race at Cheltenham on Thursday) and a repeat performance would make her tough to stop.

Verdict

SHENEEDEDTHERUN progressed as expected from debut and caught the eye to boot when keeping on gradually for fourth at Southwell last month. She looks the one to beat in a pretty ordinary contest. Hurdles-debutantes Celestial Dancer and Strands of Velvet can fight it out for the forecast spot.

Has proved largely disappointing since making a winning debut in this sphere at Ascot in November 2014. However, step back in the right direction on debut for this yard when runner-up at Market Rasen.

Verdict

THE CLOCK LEARY made a recent promising stable debut for Donald McCain at Market Rasen and the nine-year-old remains on a tempting mark of 110. Going up in distance looks to be a bonus and he can account for Palm Grey, who also should be suited by going up in distance at a venue where he has enjoyed past success. Shimla Dawn returned to form when second at Kelso when last seen in November and can go well once more.

Verdict

THE CLOCK LEARY very much took a step back in the right direction on debut for this yard when runner-up at Market Rasen 4 weeks ago and is potentially on a handy mark if building on that. Shimla Dawn is next best.

Verdict

DINSDALE beat a useful sort at Newbury two starts ago and he was not disgraced when fourth in a valuable handicap back at the Berkshire track last time out. Blue Hussar has shown a high level of form in his last three starts and he should make a bold bid to secure the hat-trick this afternoon. Viserion does not have much to find according to official ratings and he completes the shortlist for this event.

Verdict

BLUE HUSSAR has quickly gone the right way over hurdles and can complete a hat-trick. Dinsdale acquitted himself with credit in a warm Newbury handicap last time and could be the one to give Micky Hammond's charge most to do ahead of Viserion.

Gaining relief from the handicapper now and made a better fist of things when fourth at Newbury last time, so not one to dismiss for all his jumping is a constant concern.

Doesn't tend to hold his form for very long and, following a couple of sound efforts, was in the process of running poorly when unseating at Kelso last time, so others more appealing.

Verdict

STRONGLY SUGGESTED served notice a return to winning ways was imminent when staying on into second over 2m3f at Stratford earlier in the month and the step up to this longer trip is expected to suit Jonjo O'Neill's representative. Dartford Warbler has been given a chance by the assessor and is dangerously treated at present, though a bigger threat to the selection is last-time-out track and trip second Leanna Ban.

Verdict

DARTFORD WARBLER and Strongly Suggested are clearly both well handicapped and, for all the former needs to bounce back from a couple of poor efforts, the feeling is that he'd be the one to come out on top if the pair got in a tussle up the straight. Leanna Ban arrives in excellent form, but doesn't strike as having much in hand.

Out of connections' Cheltenham Mares' Hurdle winner Whiteoak. Signs of ability amidst inexperience when fourth of 8 on Catterick debut and likely to do better with that behind her.

Verdict

JANE LAMB showed signs of greenness when second on debut at Market Rasen but with the benefit of that outing behind her, she's entitled to take a forward step. Whiteoak Stroller is entitled to come on for her debut fourth at Catterick and finish on the premises, though the main danger may be Lady Valerie, who landed a Southwell bumper on debut and is entitled to leave behind her latest effort in Listed company now eased in grade.

Verdict

JANE LAMB got the hang of things late when keeping on for second on last month's debut at Market Rasen, and with improvement on the cards, is capable of winning a bumper against her own sex. Lady Valerie is a previous scorer and is back at a more realistic level, while Valdas Princess is bred to have a future.
