Verdict

Paul Nicholls has won this race three times in the last four years (his odds-on runner fell last year) and GRAND SANCY looks poised to enhance to those statistics. An impressive winner at Chepstow on his reappearance before finding a smart Olly Murphy-trained gelding too good at Kempton last time, there was no shame in that run and he can return to winning ways here. Shiroccan Roll showed promise when second at Worcester last time, while Melchior King can prove best of the remainder.

Verdict

GRAND SANCY has looked a different proposition since returning from a break and a wind operation so should prove hard to beat. Shiroccan Roll is likely to provide the main threat, unless one of the others takes a big step forward switched to hurdling.

Quirky sort who bounced back to form when making all at Ffos Las in May. Disappointed next time but back on track when third at Plumpton (25.7f) in September. Still, revised mark demands more.

Verdict

Capeland doesn't look the most resolute in a finish but any further rain would boost his prospects, while Buster Thomas appeared a little ring-rusty at Market Rasen back in September but is likely to have benefitted greatly from that outing. Ballinure needs to bounce back after failing to beat a rival home at Newton Abbot last time and this can go to FORTH BRIDGE, who just bumped into some promising types at Uttoxeter last time but travelled well and should enjoy this slight drop in distance.

Verdict

CAPELAND possibly would have been better served by delaying his challenge when runner-up at Fontwell last month, outdone by a thorough stayer over a trip that is on the limit of his stamina. This trip rates more suitable and he is one to be interested in moving forward. Forth Bridge and Buster Thomas are also low-mileage over fences and rate the chief dangers.

Point/bumper winner (also Listed placed) who won 2 of her 3 starts over hurdles this summer and is best excused her return at Cheltenham (said to have bled). Needs improvement from this mark, though.

Verdict

Little Miss Poet is a capable type on her day but wouldn't want any further rain to arrive, while Miss Crick is consistent but might just lack a class edge in a field containing as much depth as this. If You Say Run is a course winner and her second at Sandown in February probably sets the form standard, but she was pulled up when last seen at Newbury. Aine O'Connor has built up a good relationship with LITTERALE CI this year and, having seen the form of their Newton Abbot success off 6lb lower boosted by the fourth scoring since, the pair can give Harry Fry a third win in this contest since 2013.

Verdict

IF YOU SAY RUN had some sort of issue when last seen but prior to that she'd looked a potentially useful mare over hurdles, her form all solid, so she's worth a chance to get back on the up to defy a mark of 131. Last-time-out winners Litterale Ci and Little Miss Poet are obvious dangers.

Patchy form over hurdles but looked a natural when making a winning start over fences at Worcester last month and open to improvement.

Verdict

BAGS GROOVE clearly benefitted from his debut experience over fences when accounting for a 142-rated hurdler in a novice chase at Ffos Las last month. That performance suggests that Harry Fry's gelding has a bright future over the larger obstacles and he has to be given the utmost respect. Secret Investor returned from his summer break with a victory in a Grade 2 novices' hurdle at Chepstow and this former winning pointer is an obvious threat to the selection. The rest only have minor claims but Majestic Moll is the pick of them.

Verdict

BAGS GROOVE was an impressive winner of a good race of its type at Ffos Las 3 weeks ago and is narrowly preferred to Secret Investor, who's closely matched on hurdles form and should make a better chaser.

Made excellent start to her hurdles career for Robert Walford, completing hat-trick at Cheltenham in December. Far from disgraced when third to Verdana Blue on comeback, bad mistake 2 out.

Verdict

IF THE CAP FITS created a very impression when winning three novice hurdles last season and he can take this contest on his way to bigger targets later in the season. We Have A Dream is another who had a successful campaign last time around, which includes a Grade 1 victory at Aintree in April. The penalty he has to carry for that success is a concern but he is the biggest threat to the selection. Verdana Blue has had the benefit of a recent run but she still needs to improve to be successful today, while Redicean completes the shortlist.

Verdict

An excellent renewal with WE HAVE A DREAM taken to come out on top. He went undefeated on these shores as a juvenile last term and has the potential to make up into a very smart performer. His stablemate Verdana Blue has race fitness on her side and promises to be well suited by this sort of test. If The Cap Fits is another tremendous prospect if all is well.

Verdict

Paul Nicholls has won four of the last 10 renewals of this race and his defending champion PRESENT MAN has a standout chance of making it back-to-back victories in the feature contest at the venue off a mark just 2lb higher than last season, and on ground which should suit. Stablemate El Bandit is interesting making his first start since romping to victory in a Warwick novice chase back in the summer of 2017 and the Grade 2-winning hurdler, along with Captain Buck's, who had a nice sighter of the course and distance last month, makes this a formidable Ditcheat line-up. Aunty Ann was successful in that aforementioned race over track and trip and appears the pick of Charlie Longsdon's duo, while Bigbadjohn thrived here last time and a 2lb rise shouldn't hinder him too much as he's seemingly loving life now with Nigel Twiston-Davies.

Verdict

Paul Nicholls holds a strong hand as he bids to land this race for the ninth time. PRESENT MAN is only 2 lb higher than when taking this 12 months ago and can come out on top again under Bryony Frost, but returning stablemate El Bandit is a very interesting runner off what looks a good mark based on his hurdles form. Ramses de Teillee and Allelu Alleluia are others for the shortlist.

Verdict

Harry Fry took this last season with a winner who went on to land the valuable sales bumper at Newbury in the spring and he unleashes his Jeremy gelding Jeremiah James, who is a half-brother to five-time winner House Rules, this time around. Philip Hobbs saddles two and it is interesting Richard Johnson has chosen to ride the unraced Espion, who requires a market check, while Supreme Soviet is another newcomer to note having cost 40,000 euros and being a half-brother to the useful duo Slate House and Touch Kick. However, Paul Nicholls has a stellar record in this contest run at one of his local tracks and it would be no surprise to see his 125,000-euro purchase FLIC OU VOYOU leave his disappointing Fontwell debut in the past following a summer wind operation.

Verdict

FLIC OU VOYOU failed to meet expectations on debut but this longer trip will suit and he is worth another chance. There are a handful of likely newcomers, headed by Jeremiah James and Supreme Soviet.
