Verdict

BERMEO escapes a penalty for his victory in a conditionals' contest at Newton Abbot last week and while he didn't exactly win with his head in his chest, it proved at least that he can score off this mark. The veteran Cruising Bye retains plenty of enthusiasm and stepped forward from a second here to go one better, again over course and distance. Torhousemuir arrives on the back of a career-best performance to fill the runner-up berth at Stratford and won't remain a maiden for much longer.

Verdict

BERMEO overcame a couple of sizeable blunders when getting off the mark over fences at Newton Abbot last month, and given he escapes a penalty for that, his follow-up claims appear to be bright. Torhousemuir and Wells Gold are feared most.

Poor form in bumpers/over hurdles. Easily opposed now switching to fences.

Poor form in bumpers/over hurdles. Easily opposed now switching to fences.

Verdict

LEONCAVALLO has been revitalised by the switch to Dr Richard Newland's stable, starting off with a decisive Ludlow triumph before a cracking effort to make the frame in the Galway Hurdle. He isn't bred for fences but providing he can put in a clear round, his quality should see him home. Cultivator has had a crack at the bigger obstacles before, with limited success, and it isn't ideal that he arrives following a hurdles tumble at Newton Abbot, but he has a touch of class. Flashing Glance was a solid third on his chasing bow and will be waiting to pick up the pieces should the top two falter.

Verdict

This surely concerns only three. LEONCAVALLO confirmed he's an improved performer for this yard when third in the Galway Hurdle last month and is selected to make a winning start over the larger obstacles, but Cultivator and Flashing Glance are both useful and will ensure he doesn't have things all his own way.

Made a winning debut over fences in 5-runner Worcester handicap last month. Lost no caste in defeat when runner-up under a penalty at Sedgefield next time and remains open to improvement as a chaser.

Verdict

Theo has won six of his nine starts since coming under the care of Dr Richard Newland, most recently following a seven-month absence over course and distance, and a 5lb rise doesn't appear too harsh. Dinsdale lost little in defeat at Sedgefield, and Roman Flight has slipped to a handy mark, but PETER THE MAYO MAN gets the nod. The eight-year-old wasn't entirely reliable for Paul Nicholls but he has been snapped up for 26,000 pounds since he was last seen and Dan Skelton doesn't usually take long to find the key to new recruits.

Verdict

There should be more to come from the 5-y-o DINSDALE, who finished a long way clear of the rest when chasing home an odds-on shot at Sedgefield. That was just his second run over fences and he may find the necessary improvement to take this prize. Theo is a much-respected main danger on the back of his Worcester success, whereas Peter The Mayo Man and Roman Flight both have something to prove.

Poor form in 2 bumpers for Sally Haynes last year. Has since changed yards.

Verdict

Tim Hyde doesn't cross the Irish Sea too often so Stacey Sue has to be respected, especially after backing up her Cork success with a commendable second at Down Royal. She takes on a decent prospect in REPRESENTED, though, with Anthony Honeyball's charge gradually working his way into form, and he bumped into a good one at Fontwell. Berboru has offered some encouragement between the flags, and Golden Promise is an interesting newcomer from the Jonjo O'Neill yard.

Verdict

Irish-raider STACEY SUE has run to a good level in this sphere and looks the one to beat, especially in receipt of weight from main rival Represented. Golden Promise makes some appeal on paper and would come into the reckoning if the market speaks in his favour.

Temperament isn't all it could be, but put in a decent shift back in this sphere at Sedgefield (27f, good to firm) recently, despite the race not being run to suit, and he's now 2 lb lower.

In fine fettle, winning 3 of her last 4 starts, including a C&D handicap last time. However, now 9 lb higher in a tougher race, so further progress needed if she's to add to her tally.

In fine fettle, winning 3 of her last 4 starts, including a C&D handicap last time. However, now 9 lb higher in a tougher race, so further progress needed if she's to add to her tally.

Verdict

Something has clicked with OUTRAGEOUS ROMANA this summer, and John O'Shea's mare made it three wins in her last four outings when scoring with something up her sleeve over this track and trip last month. The handicapper has reacted with a 9lb rise but the hat-trick is definitely on. Midnight Sapphire made a pleasing beginning to life with David Pipe when runner-up at Newton Abbot but has a 5lb higher mark to contend with. Allelu Alleluia remains nicely treated in this sphere, while recent course third Miss Mash will appreciate stepping up from 2m4f.

Verdict

The lack of a confirmed front-runner complicates this already tricky-looking puzzle. MISS MASH certainly would've benefited from a stronger gallop when third on her reappearance here, but the step back up in trip goes some way to negating any concerns regarding the tempo at which this race is likely to be run and she gets the nod ahead of Rolling Maul and Midnight Sapphire.

Form of her Southwell bumper second in July is suspect and she is hard to fancy on hurdles debut.

Form of her Southwell bumper second in July is suspect and she is hard to fancy on hurdles debut.

Verdict

Kitikat made the perfect start to his career with victory in a Southwell bumper back in May, but he comes across a couple of interesting recruits from the Flat. Kreb's Cycle is a useful handicapper at around a mile, but is rated 23lb inferior to SOFIA'S ROCK, who is also blessed with more stamina. The four-year-old has left Mark Johnston since finishing fourth over 1m6f at Newmarket at the end of August, and Dan Skelton should have got plenty of schooling into him in the relatively short time since then.

Verdict

KITIKAT battled well when winning a Southwell bumper first time up in May and looks a useful jumping prospect. He's taken to repeat the feat on his hurdles debut. Sofia's Rock and Kreb's Cycle both bring good Flat form to the table for hot yards and must demand respect.
