Struggled in Group races initially this year, but has acquitted himself with credit in handicaps more recently, travelling better than most when fourth at Newbury in September.

Verdict

FINNISTON FARM followed up his distance second at Doncaster with a 1m4f victory at Haydock two weeks ago and seemingly goes well at galloping tracks. He has recently been raised 3lb in the ratings but is expected to show up well back over 1m2f. Mountain Angel suffered an agonising defeat when headed in the final strides at Newbury and is feared most, while Aasheq and Banditry are capable of picking up minor money on these terms.

Verdict

ERIK THE RED looks to be coming to the boil while a few others are a bit jaded at the back of the season, so he could be the way to go arriving on the back of an encouraging effort in ground that suits. Bang-in-form Mountain Angel is the obvious danger ahead of Finniston Farm.

Winner of first 2 starts and finished an excellent second in a French Group 3 faced with his only realistic opportunity since. Down the field in Middle Park, but solid claims back down in grade.

Verdict

The form of CONSTANT's recent Hamilton second to East was franked when the latter won a Group 3 in France last week, and better ground here is not expected to pose this son of Dutch Art any issues. Space Traveller was deemed good enough to run in the Group 1 Middle Park last time and should enjoy these calmer shores, while the hat-trick seeking Dave Dexter is a big player if handling this quicker surface.

Verdict

CONSTANT has an upwardly-mobile profile, should relish the ground, and would have defied a penalty at Hamilton last time had he not been up against a subsequent pattern winner, so he looks well worth a go at this level. Dave Dexter and Vintage Brut both boast excellent records in testing ground and have already proved themselves capable at this level, so they're certainly considered, too.

Caught the eye in no uncertain terms when returning in the Stewards Cup, certainly well treated based on that, but failed to back it up and wouldn't want too much rain.

Caught the eye in no uncertain terms when returning in the Stewards Cup, certainly well treated based on that, but failed to back it up and wouldn't want too much rain.

Verdict

Kevin Ryan's Teruntum Star won this last season off a 1lb higher mark and it would be no surprise to see him play a part once again in a first-time visor. However, preference is for stablemate TOMMY TAYLOR, who looks well treated on the form of his Listed success over C&D last season and Jamie Spencer is an eye-catching jockey booking. Shared Equity has won this in the past and is respected, along with Al Qahwa and Flying Pursuit.

Verdict

PERFECT PASTURE has a solid record with cut in the ground and seems to have worked his way back into top form of late, so he's worth chancing in a wide-open affair. Al Qahwa, Flying Pursuit and Kimberella all went well in the Ayr Gold Cup last time and are expected to remain competitive.

Runner-up in a Carlisle minor event in August, but that performance is flanked by a brace of heavy defeats over 6f. Must improve for this step up in trip switched to handicaps.

Verdict

Richard Fahey has two strong chances with Sootability, a daughter of Camelot open to improvement, and ARCHIES LAD, who has run well on his last couple of starts in novice company. Preference of the pair goes to the latter, as an opening mark of 78 looks very fair on what he has achieved so far. Balance Of Power and Self Assessment both hold solid credentials on the form they have shown of late.

Verdict

LOLA'S THEME matched the form of her shock Haydock win when runner-up on nursery debut at Pontefract a fortnight ago and from the same mark, is expected to make a bold bid to go one better. Even Keel has already won 2 nurseries and is sure to be on the premises, while Self Assessment and Archies Lad are likely improvers tackling 1m for the first time.

Verdict

JONAH JONES was far from disgraced when finishing fifth in a Listed race at Doncaster last month and he sets the standard today based on that evidence. Qutob has run well in both previous starts and he could pose the biggest threat to the selection this afternoon. Fares Kodiac is another proven winner who has to be noted, while Defence Treaty completes the shortlist.

Verdict

JONAH JONES is taking a step down from listed company and sets the standard even with a penalty. Fares Kodiac is also a previous winner, and he's open to further improvement. Qutob failed to progress from his debut, but still has the form to play a part.
