Winner of 2 of her 4 starts since switched to handicaps and race perhaps came too soon when third off this mark at Doncaster (11.9f) last time. Given a short break since and she's not ruled out.

Verdict

Tapis Libre has found himself back on the same mark as when winning this race last year and must enter calculations, while Mukhayyam can also run well again after finishing runner-up 12 months ago. Philip Kirby's pair Rayna's World and Archippos merit shortlist inclusion, as does class-dropper Pacify, but DESERT RULER looks the one to beat. This past course winner is arriving at the top of his game, having only found one too good when bidding to complete the hat-trick last time.

Verdict

MUKHAYYAM was outpointed by Tapis Libre in this race last year and that rival may again prove troublesome but Tim Easterby's charge is taken to come out on top this time. He signalled that his turn may be near when runner-up at Chester 3 weeks ago and stepping back up in trip will be in his favour. Desert Ruler shaped well back from a break on the Roodee and is next best ahead of Tapis Libre.

Useful sort for Mike de Kock in South Africa but failed to beat a rival home in 2 starts in Ireland last year and again stone last on return/debut for new yard at Haydock.

Verdict

SPANISH CITY has improved his form considerably since stepping up to 7f, having won two of his three outings this year, and a win at Doncaster last time means he arrives full of confidence. The booking of Ryan Moore is no negative to his chances and he can defy a career high mark. Get Knotted (third) and Golden Apollo (fourth) both ran well here behind Gilgamesh over C&D last time and are expected to be in the mix once again.

Verdict

It's hard to resist the allure of SPANISH CITY, who has low mileage for a 5-y-o and is clearly still improving judged on his last-gasp victory at Doncaster. With further progress on the cards and Ryan Moore doing the steering, he should prove hard to beat. Golden Apollo was behind Get Knotted over C&D last time but is capable of better and Tim Easterby's charge rates the main danger.

Useful filly. Won first 3 starts in handicaps last season before good placed efforts in pattern events at Goodwood and Doncaster. May still have more to offer as a 4-y-o.

Verdict

Weekender was unlucky to bump into the improving Magic Circle at Sandown last time out and remains a horse to follow, while Duke Of Bronte is sure to shape into a nice stayer in years to come having shown flashes of potential now as both a three and four-year-old. That said, it is hard to knock the form of MARMELO, who was second to the classy Vazirabad last time and has Ryan Moore booked to do the steering.

Verdict

WEEKENDER was perhaps not totally at home on the soft ground when third in the Henry II Stakes at Sandown last time and remains one to follow on the back of his impressive reappearance at Chelmsford. This represents a drop in grade for Marmelo, who was only just denied in a Group 2 at Longchamp on his return, and is the clear danger.

Shaped with considerable promise on debut prior to landing 6f minor events at Ripon and Pontefract. Not seen to best effect on handicap bow behind Foxtrot Lady at Carlisle and it's still early days.

Verdict

GABRIAL THE SAINT looks a progressive type for Richard Fahey, who enjoyed plenty of success here at the Dante meeting last month, and appears to be the choice of Paul Hanagan from four Musley Bank-based runners. The three-year-old handles varying ground and could account for Foxtrot Lady, who is a half-sister to smart performer Dancing Star and has won her last two, and Beshaayir, who is better than what she showed at Musselburgh last time.

Verdict

This is significantly tougher than the Ripon handicap CITRON MAJOR landed last time but he displayed a potent turn of foot on that occasion and, clearly still improving, an 11 lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from following up. Beshaayir was a shade disappointing at Musselburgh but she's evidently held in high regard and has to be feared, along with the progressive Gabrial The Saint.
