€27,000 3-y-o, £260,000 4-y-o, Getaway gelding. Finished alone on Irish point debut (Mar 5). Commands the upmost respect now hurdling for his top yard.

Verdict

THE DELLERCHECKOUT was left alone when winning his point-to-point at Lismore back in March before being sold for 260,000 pounds to John Hales at the Cheltenham Festival sale. He has gone to Paul Nicholls and is expected to make his mark in the novice hurdle division this season. Delire D'estruval showed some smart form in France and is respected on his first start for Ben Pauling, while Hear No Evil and Barton Knoll have some decent form in the book so are worth a second look.

Verdict

THE DELLERCHECKOUT was bought for £260,000 after finishing alone on his sole start in points, and this son of Getaway may well be up to making a winning start under Rules for his top yard. Hear No Evil was a fairly useful bumper performer last season, and is one to consider now switched to timber, while Delire d’Estruval is worth a market check on his stable/UK debut.

Useful hurdler last season though record was rather mixed. Tongue tie fitted ahead of chase debut/return and probably remains capable of better.

Verdict

Paul Nicholls and Sean Bowen teamed up to take this prize 12 months ago with the ill-fated Arpege D'alene and they are represented this time by COASTAL TIEP, who jumped well when displaying his strong stamina to win on chase debut at Exeter last month. The son of Coastal Path looked as though he would strip fitter for the outing and the reapplication of cheekpieces will suit on this tighter track. Geordie Des Champs showed a good level of form over timber and is expected to make a better chaser, while Clondaw Cian has gone well fresh in the past having won at Cheltenham last November and he is preferred in the minor honours to Captain Chaos.

Verdict

All 4 showed similar ability over hurdles but GEORDIE DES CHAMPS arguably has the most solid form and he's bred to be at least as good in this sphere. The other chasing debutant Clondaw Cian may emerge as the biggest threat.

Return to hurdles and change of headgear saw her resume winning ways over C&D last month. However, overall records means she's no certainty to be in same form this time and is 4 lb out of handicap.

Verdict

A competitive event with a couple of these still on an upward progression and none more so than Beer Goggles, who surprised when winning on his return at Newton Abbot and still doesn't look finished improving. The booking of Mitchell Bastyan looks notable with his valuable 5lb claim being put to good use. Forza Milan and Winningtry are two progressive young horses who should both strip fitter for their return efforts over the past couple of weeks along with LOUIS' VAC POUCH, who shades the vote here. He kept improving over hurdles last season and shaped well in the Silver Trophy behind Court Minstrel when given far too much to do. He remains on the same mark and has the potential to prove better stepping up to 3m1f for the first time with the Philip Hobbs team currently in excellent form. Bon Chic was given a brilliant ride by Charlotte Jones over C&D 13 days ago but is likely to find life tougher off 9lb higher in a more competitive race, while Holly Bush Henry and Nautical Nitwit can make their presence felt.

Verdict

LOUIS' VAC POUCH did well from further back than ideal in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow on his return and might be worth siding with now up in trip for the in-form Philip Hobbs team. Forza Milan probably needed the run on last month's Worcester reappearance and leaves the impression he has a bigger performance in him, while Winningtry is another unexposed sort from a leading yard.

Verdict

Virgilio has form figures of 11531 at this track, with his only defeats coming in a 22-runner handicap hurdle and a Grade 1 novice chase, and he makes plenty of appeal. That said, a chance can be taken with ON TOUR, who is likely to be at a much bigger price. Evan Williams' nine-year-old has never finished worse than second in his starts that followed a 100-or-more-day break. One of those performances was his second-placed finish in this race last year from 2lb higher in the ratings where there was 28 lengths back to the third. Voix D'eau and Warriors Tale are others who could go well at decent prices.

Verdict

VIRGILIO won in good style over 3m here in May and the manner in which he put the race to bed gives hope he'll prove as effective over this shorter trip. This does look competitive though, with Evan Williams' pair Pobbles Bay and On Tour heading the dangers.

Chase career hasn't gone to plan, but he is a smart performer on his day over hurdles. Up against in on these terms on reappearance, though.

Verdict

Unowhatimeanharry is the classiest hurdler in the field and sets the clear form standard based on his dominance of the 3m hurdling division last term. However, he is running over trip short of his best, has bigger targets in mind later in the season and this small field, and potentially muddling pace, are perhaps not ideal for him from a tactical viewpoint. There is good reason to believe Value At Risk, a Grade 2 hurdles winner, could ruffle a few feathers on the front end here at what is likely to be a big price, but TOP NOTCH boasts some classier hurdles form and appears more likely to cash in if the first-named disappoints. He enjoyed a productive chasing campaign last term, winning the Scilly Isles and finishing runner-up to Yorkhill in the JLT, and for all he's likely to be sent back over fences after this outing, his hurdles form in isolation is very strong and he may still emerge on top, competing over his optimum trip.

Verdict

A very interesting contest in store, with the vote going to TOP NOTCH on his return to timber as the 8 lb he receives from top-class stayer Unowhatimeanharry could well be decisive, especially with the latter having to come back in trip.

Consistency not his strong suit these days, but successful over hurdles in September and dispelled a blip when third over fences at Kempton (18f) last month. Mark rates a fair one.

Verdict

Pain Au Chocolat got the better of the experienced Duke Of Navan on his first start for Rebecca Menzies at Perth in the summer and the pair look closely matched now the former has been raised 4lb. They should both figure here along with Imjoeking, a faller in the Topham on his last visit to Liverpool but a handy winner before that and a big performance from a mark of 131 is not out of the question. However, preference is for BALLYHILL, who has found himself pitched in against some top rivals on his two early season novice chase outings and has come out of them far from disgraced. This contest looks much easier and could be the ideal opportunity to land a useful prize at a track sure to suit if heading out in front and dictating the pace.

Verdict

BALLYHILL has made a most encouraging start over fences, confirming the promise of his chase debut when third in a strong-looking Cheltenham novice event 2 weeks ago. He gets the nod from what rates a good mark now handicapping. Baby King was going best prior to falling 3 out at Market Rasen in May, and along with Ut Majeur Aulmes, heads the dangers.

Bred along Flat lines and not seen to best effect when fourth of 9 in bumper (12/1) at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good) on debut 29 days ago.

Verdict

Welsby must enter calculations given his connections, similarly Russian Spy, who represents an Evan Williams stable going great guns at the moment. However, it may pay to concentrate on the point-to-point form of Henry's Joy and NET DE TREVE. The former only found subsequent bumper scorer Rapid Escape (also fifth in the Goffs Land Rover) too good on his latest of two starts between the flags at Tinahely and the booking of Richard Johnson is a big plus for his supporters, but slight preference is for the latter. He represents the same trainer/jockey combination that won this event 12 months ago and the form of his point-to-point second at Inch in April took a big boost when the winner finished a close-up third in a bumper at Chepstow on Wednesday.

Verdict

NET DE TREVE went for €100,000 after finishing runner-up in a point in April and represents a yard with a good record in this sphere, so he could be the one to be with. Welsby has to be respected for Nicky Henderson, while Going Gold sets the standard on his placed effort last year.
