Little impact in bumpers and down the field in mares events over hurdles (maiden and novice).

Verdict

WELL SMITTEN was still in front when unseating at the second last on hurdles debut at Lingfield in a race won by Jabulani and should be able to make this a real stamina test now back down to the minimum distance. Grand Morning is a half-brother to Edwulf and shaped well on his hurdling bow with likely improvement to come, while Benefit North and Nando both warrant respect on what they have shown so far.

Verdict

WELL SMITTEN was in the process of running a sound race on his hurdles debut (would have been placed but for unseating his rider 2 out) at Lingfield in November. He is well worth a chance to build on that initial promise. Grand Morning has a nice pedigree and is open to improvement for his in-form yard, while Benefit North and Nando are others to consider.

Verdict

RAISED ON GRAZEON claimed a notable scalp when winning at Catterick in novice company last time and steps back into handicap ranks holding leading claims, despite having to carry top weight. Beyondtemptation was only raised 4lb for scoring at Newcastle and is respected, while Presenting Rose and Berkshire Downs both represent shrewd connections and any market moves should be noted. A return to the scene of her C&D success two starts back can see Miss Tiggy throw her hat into the ring also.

Verdict

RAISED ON GRAZEON got off the mark in pretty cosy fashion in maiden company at Catterick on New Year's Day and can make light of top weight on her handicap debut. Baby Ticker was a good second on her Newcastle return and will be a danger if turning up in similar form, while last-time-out winner Beyondtemptation remains with handicapping scope having been successful off a higher mark last summer.

Left previous efforts in handicap company well behind when opening account over 19f here last month. 6 lb rise fair enough, but remains to be seen whether this step back up in trip is a good thing.

Verdict

A competitive contest but the marginal preference is for CONQUER GOLD, who bounced back to form when finishing second at Newcastle last time out. The eight-year-old could take some beating if he arrives here in the same form this afternoon. Trongate won well here last month and a 6lb rise for that victory is not overly harsh, although he does have to prove his stamina today. Mac N Cheese and Too Many Chiefs both have solid form claims but they have been hit hard in the ratings for previous victories.

Verdict

Stepping back up in trip will suit CONQUER GOLD, who railled well when runner-up over 20.6f at Newcastle last time. Both of his victories under Rules have been gained over similar trips to this and he makes plenty of appeal off the same mark. Conversely, going back up in trip poses a question where Trongate is concerned, therefore Aengus and Another Mattie may emerge as the main dangers.

Verdict

BUFFALO BALLET wasn't beaten far in a more competitive contest than this at Carlisle last time out and certainly shouldn't be inconvenienced by this drop in distance. The 12-year-old brings consistency to the table and looks a solid value option. Hills Of Dubai comes back from a 298-day absence for a yard enjoying an excellent season and is respected, while Paddling has more on his plate here now upped 12lb after an easy Catterick success last month.

Verdict

STRONG ECONOMY ran well enough on his chase debut over C&D last month to suggest he’s capable of winning races in this sphere. Paddling won a poor handicap last time, but he is undoubtedly getting his act together now so has to be respected, while Irish point winner Hills of Dubai rates the type to do better now switching to fences.

Verdict

SKY FULL OF STARS created a taking impression when surging clear of a useful rival last time to score over this C&D and a lenient 4lb rise gives him a great chance to follow up here. Casual Cavalier is entitled to improve for his Wetherby return and this doesn't look any tougher, while, at the foot of the handicap, the drop to the minimum trip could help Mcginty's Dream on his first handicap outing over the larger obstacles.

Verdict

A 4 lb rise for SKY FULL OF STARS' recent C&D win looks fair with the leading pair a long way clear and he can follow up under ground conditions which very much play to his strengths. McGinty's Dream is fairly treated based on his chase debut second and may prove next best ahead of Casual Cavalier.

Still a maiden following 25 starts overall under Rules, but possesses a few pieces of form which make him of interest in a race of this nature off present mark.

Verdict

DAKOTA GREY was a faller on his latest start at Newcastle when looking held at the time but is a heavy-ground winner and arrives here in better form than the majority of these. Handicap debutant Read'em And Weep ran his best race over timber when fourth here in a novice hurdle over 2m and has to be respected along with last year's winner Tomahawk Wood, who runs off the exact same mark as 12 months ago.

Verdict

HAUL US IN's latest effort at Wetherby was rather laboured but she's now 3 lb lower in a weaker race and, in the hope that the new headgear has the desired effect, she gets the nod. Dakota Grey will be a big threat if able to reproduce the form of his penultimate start at Carlisle, while last year's winner Tomahawk Wood and One In A Row can do battle for minor honours.
