In frame all 4 starts in points (runner-up last time, Nov 18), but has shaped like one for the longer term in 2 mares maiden hurdles at Navan.

Verdict

COOL MIX has made the frame in all three of his starts over hurdles to date and this is an ideal opportunity for the son of Fair Mix to earn his first career victory. Arctic Vodka is another who has been knocking hard on the door of late and he is an obvious threat to the selection this afternoon. Sweet As Candy is the pick of the remainder based on an encouraging effort at Newcastle shortly before Christmas.

Verdict

COOL MIX is knocking on the door, and with this stiffer test likely to suit, he is taken to open his account. Arctic Vodka continues to go the right way over hurdles and has to be respected on the back of his latest second at this course, while Sweet As Candy should also have more to offer.

Dual point winner who shaped encouraging on first start under Rules when third of 10 in novice hurdle at this (16f, heavy) last month. Well-bred and in good hands so improvement likely up in trip.

Verdict

BIALCO has some solid French form to his name having placed in a chase at Auteuil in the autumn and he looks more than capable of making his mark on his UK debut for the Lucinda Russell team. Blunder Buss has proven consistent so far in his hurdling career and should run his usual solid race, while My Old Gold could improve for the step up in trip having run well on his hurdling debut at the track last month.

Verdict

Dual point winner MY OLD GOLD shaped encouragingly on Rules/hurdles debut when third at this course last month, and with this step up in trip promising to suit, she’s selected to make no mistakes at the second attempt. Blunder Buss is likely to be on the premises again, and he rates the main threat ahead of Lucinda Russell’s French-recruit Bialco.

Useful bumper winner who won 3 times over hurdles last term, resuming progress at Newcastle in March. Dam won over fences and this looks a nice starting point for her in this new discipline.

Verdict

Totalize would appear to have a leading chance if reappearing from an 18-month absence in the right fashion, but that looks a tough task so preference is for KELKA who is returning from her own layoff. Malcolm Jefferson's mare should thrive in today's conditions and the drop back to two miles looks the ideal starting point to begin her chasing career. The sex allowance that she and Jennys Melody receive could be crucial here and it would be no surprise if the two mares fight out the finish.

Verdict

KELKA has a bit of ground to make up with a couple of her rivals over hurdles, but she’s a likeable mare and is bred to make a chaser. Jennys Melody and Totalize are major players, with the former narrowly preferred for forecast purposes.

Remains a maiden but stepped up on his Down Royal run just 6 days earlier when runner-up at Tramore on new year’s day. Plenty more needed here though.

Verdict

LOCHNELL did it well last time out when the more exposed Finaghy Ayr was second, and the form is fancied to be confirmed here with jumping doubts still surrounding the latter. Bako De La Saulaie performed well on his first start for over a year at Newcastle last time and should have sharpened up for that outing significantly, while Ceann Sibheal is bred to be a nice chaser in time and merits respect for the long-travelling Warren Greatrex team.

Verdict

BAKO DE LA SAULAIE shaped with plenty of promise on his return/chasing debut at Newcastle last month (jumping/travelling well for a long way), and appeals as the type to make his mark over fences sooner rather than later. Finaghy Ayr meets Lochnell on slightly better terms this time and may reverse the form with that one.

Veteran who seemingly hasn’t been the easiest to train but was runner-up twice at this venue last season. Not disgraced both starts this term but is 8 lb out of the weights here.

Verdict

WHISKEY CHASER was well fancied when fifth in what turned into a gruelling renewal of The Last Fling Handicap Chase at Haydock, but was in fine form before that and the drop in trip can see Donald McCain's chaser back to his best here. Sharney Sike was pulled up in the same race and holds place claims here along with Nick Alexander's veteran The Orange Rogue, while Orioninverness wasn't completely beaten when falling here last time and the return to an intermediate distance could be in his favour under a light weight.

Verdict

WHISKEY CHASER travelled well until his stamina gave out over a marathon trip last time and is worth another chance to show he's still on a workable mark under ground conditions which are sure to play to his strengths. Orioninverness was in with a shout when falling 3 out on his course return and can go well if none the worse, while Wings of Smoke won't be far away if reproducing his latest third.

C&D winner. Eighteen runs since last win in 2015. Respectable seventh of 10 in handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (23.8f, good, 17/2) 29 days ago. Significantly back down in trip. Others more persuasive.

Verdict

OUR LUCAS took a big step forward when finishing second over C&D last month and a 1lb drop in the ratings for that effort appears to be very fair. It should be noted that it was just his second start for this yard and he may have more improvement left in him. Bering Upsun can go well if he bounces back to the form which saw him make the frame at Carlisle in November, while Bill D'aron and The Lady Rules also warrant consideration.

Verdict

OUR LUCAS bumped into an improver when runner-up on his C&D reappearance and gets the nod to go one better now. Bering Upsun could provide the main opposition if returning to the form of his reappearance third, although it'll also be very interesting to see how his returning stablemate Bill d'Aron goes in the betting with Brian Hughes doing the steering.

Not long with this yard and not disgraced when third in a couple of handicap chases in recent months. Lower mark to work with back over hurdles.

Not long with this yard and not disgraced when third in a couple of handicap chases in recent months. Lower mark to work with back over hurdles.

Verdict

On the raid from Northern Ireland this afternoon, SULTANA BELLE is racing from 1lb out of the handicap but she was tapped for toe over 2m when last sighted here over fences and may improve for the combination of this longer trip, switch to hurdles and the fitting of first-time blinkers. Poetic Presence merits a market check now turned out after a run on Sunday, while The Bishop, a 2m5f winner here in March, has viable place claims.

Verdict

CEEGEM found 19f on the short side here last time and is worth another chance to build on the promise of his Kelso third in a race which has worked out very well. Ollisu Lad showed his first form when fourth here last time and could have more to come over this longer distance, while Sultana Belle has been third over fences on her last 2 outings and has a lower mark back hurdling.
