Winning hurdler yet to add to tally over fences, though ran respectably in the Ulster National (29f) last time, plugging on. Will do well to take this in first-time headgear.

Verdict

BEWARE THE BEAR couldn't quite live up to the hype when finishing seventh in the four miler at the Festival but makes plenty of appeal on his preceding performances, which were befitting of a progressive stayer on great terms with himself. Final Nudge was still in contention when falling four out in the Midlands National and could figure if that tumble hasn't left its mark. Keltus, who has been absent since October, may have more to offer and is another worth a market check.

Verdict

A hot handicap that could go to KELTUS, who will be primed for this and was last seen finishing second in a valuable handicap at Cheltenham's October Meeting for Paul Nicholls. Champion Trainer-rival Nicky Henderson has a strong hand with Laurium and Beware The Bear, while I Just Know is interesting for the northern challenge.

Verdict

FLYING ANGEL and Cloudy Dream finished first and second, respectively, in a Grade 1 at Aintree earlier in the month and they could fight out the finish once again today. The former was still going well when he was nearly brought down in the JLT at Cheltenham but he made amends with that impressive display on Merseyside. Cloudy Dream's consistency has to be admired and he ran extremely well at this meeting 12 months ago. Clan Des Obeaux is the pick of the remainder following his confidence-boosting win at Exeter last month.

Verdict

FLYING ANGEL resumed his progress over fences with a career-best success at Aintree last time, showing an admirable attitude in the process, and is fancied to come out on top again here. Clan Des Obeaux missed both of the festivals and could have been primed for this event. He is preferred to Cloudy Dream for the forecast spot.

Won at Kelso and Carlisle in October. Good efforts at Musselburgh the last twice but suspect he'll be vulnerable to the Southern raiders again.

Verdict

Alan King holds a strong hand here with Winter Escape and Sceau Royal who has been campaigning at the highest level this season. Daryl Jacob has chosen County Hurdle second L'Ami Serge over Peace And Co while Dan Skelton took this last season and is double handed once again with the likeable novice, Mohaayed, who caught the eye when further down the field in that Cheltenham contest. However, LONDON PRIZE is well worth his place in this field and was a likeable Imperial Cup winner who can go forward again.

Verdict

WINTER ESCAPE bounced back to form when fifth in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham and is fresher than many ahead of this assignment. He is still open to improvement and is narrowly preferred to runaway Sussex Champion Hurdle winner Tommy Silver and Mohaayed, who wasn't far behind the selection at Cheltenham.

Resurgent just recently, landing handicaps at Southwell in March and Ludlow earlier this month under positive rides with something to spare at the line. This is a whole different ball game, though.

Verdict

Double W's has gone up 5lb since his Aintree handicap win but should be capable of confirming form with Yorkist, while Vaniteux wears first-time cheekpieces and should be suited by a return to this flatter track and drying ground. Romain De Senam is talented but not the most reliable, and it might pay to side with SIMPLY NED. Nicky Richards' charge takes a big drop in class after struggling in the Queen Mother at Cheltenham last month and has a 2-2 record at this venue.

Verdict

VANITEUX is certainly not handicapped out of things from a mark of 153 and the furious gallop that looks on the cards here could really bring the best out of him. He's narrowly preferred to the progressive Double W's and the in-form Yorkist in what looks sure to be a hotly-contested handicap chase.
