Verdict

DIAMONIQUE shaped with an abundance of promise when third over 6f on debut at Pontefract and is entitled to build on that performance now she has the benefit of the outing behind her. Salmon Fishing was sent off 33-1 for a 6f contest at Thirsk last time and easily outperformed market expectations in finishing third. Another big run likely beckons, while any money for Richard Fahey's newcomer Northern Lass would be notable.

Verdict

DIAMONIQUE was a promising third in a similar contest at Pontefract on debut that has thrown up a handful of winners and makes plenty of appeal second-time up. Newcomers Northern Lass and Northernpowerhouse both have something to recommend them on paper.

Verdict

ARNOLD returned to form when third over the extended 5f at Wetherby and is able to compete off a 1lb lower mark here. Ann Duffield's charge is rated 1lb lower than when winning at Ripon last year and is entitled to improve for the fitting of first-time cheekpieces. Recent Ayr third Groundworker is feared most, while a big run could also be on the cards from Etienne Gerard, who is well drawn and only 3lb higher in the handicap than when striking over C&D last month.

Verdict

The gaps never came for ARNOLD at Wetherby last time but he still ran well and is taken to overcome his difficult draw. Etienne Gerard scored over C&D last month and could bounce back to form in stall 1. Pearl Noir should go well if winning the early battle for the lead.

Verdict

FUNKADELIC picked up some minor money off 1lb higher at Hamilton last time and the form was franked when the winner, Alsvinder, went in again at the same venue on Saturday. The selection is well berthed in stall one this afternoon so could feasibly follow suit. Compton River is proven under these conditions and has dropped to a workable mark at present. The pick of the remainder may be Kibaar, who hinted his turn was approaching when third at Hamilton two weeks ago.

Verdict

SIR DOMINO didn't get the rub of the green on his first start for a yard that has enjoyed a fine season and is worth another chance. Kibaar's backers might be worth keeping the faith one more time as he ran his most encouraging race for Ruth Carr off a basement mark last time. Highly Focussed and Foxy Boy are others to note.

3 wins from 3 runs this year. 1/2, further improvement when winning 6-runner handicap at Bath (11.6f, firm) 13 days ago, making all. Significantly up in trip. Chance is there for all to see.

Verdict

ALTRA VITA has won her last three without going up too much in the handicap and Sir Mark Prescott's charge is fancied to continue her impressive run of form under Luke Morris off just 3lb higher for her recent Bath win. This fast ground is clearly her surface and a first try at 2m should be within reach. Stormin Tom likes to get on with things in front and could set things up for the selection and Gabrial's King.

Verdict

The 4-timer beckons for ALTRA VITA now stepped up in trip and she could stay ahead of the handicapper for a bit longer yet given the narrow margins of her wins. Stormin Tom and High On Light should be up there throughout, the former selected for the forecast.

Verdict

MYWAYISTHEONLYWAY won this last year off a 2lb lower mark and returned to form when second at Musselburgh a fortnight ago. He only lost out to an improver there and with nothing of that profile in this contest, he could return to winning ways under Phillip Makin. Pepys hasn't run a bad race in quite some time and should be right there once more, while Hitman was suited by a good gallop at Thirsk recently and needs the same again here.

Verdict

Last year's winner MYWAYISTHEONLYWAY can strike again after returning to his best from a reduced mark at Musselburgh a fortnight ago. Hitman beat a subsequent winner at Thirsk and is respected up 6 lb. Pepys should give another good account.

Career best when winning 5-runner handicap at Hamilton (9.2f, good to firm, 5/2) 15 days ago, responding well. Has to be respected.

Verdict

TIGHT LINES was only a narrow winner at Hamilton a couple of weeks ago but that performance did suggest that she could win again, especially as the handicapper has only raised her 2lb for that victory. Mon Beau Visage has been running well of late and he is likely to be in the mix once again today, while similar comments apply to Ghayyar.

Verdict

CARNAGEO has dropped to a good mark and could bounce back to winning ways now contesting a handicap that looks easier than the warm York events over further that he's been running in. Tight Lines got off the mark for the season at Hamilton a fortnight ago under this rider and is feared most up just 2 lb.

Remains a maiden after 20 Flat runs. Below form seventh of 12 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, good to firm, 25/1) 14 days ago.

Verdict

It was only a selling handicap that JOHNI BOXIT won at Yarmouth a couple of weeks ago but this race is not much better than that level. A 3lb rise in the ratings should be workable and he doesn't face too many opponents with recent winning form. Bollin Joan and If We Can Can are others with leading chances, while Heirslookingatyou is a handicap debutant to note.

Verdict

KENMARE RIVER drops into a 0-65 and left the impression last time that he has a bigger effort in him. Heirslookingatyou is a likely improver now stepped up in trip for his handicap debut. Bollin Joan likely has a race in her also.

Thrice-raced maiden on Flat. Ninth of 11 in maiden at Redcar (10f, good, 66/1) 49 days ago, not knocked about. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Makes handicap debut. Likely to improve.

Verdict

ISLAND SONG made a winning debut for this yard at Ayr last week and a 6lb penalty for that success may not be enough to stop him from winning today. French Mix has struggled in her last couple of starts but she is a player based on her form from earlier in the year, which includes a victory at Wolverhampton in May. Optima Petamus and Clarabel are others to note.

Verdict

ISLAND SONG was yet another winner first-time up for the impressive Tristan Davidson at Ayr recently and can defy a penalty. Serena Brotherton is seeking a fifth win in 9 years in this race and could be the one to get a tune out of the frustrating Different Journey. Haafaprincess is a likely improver now going handicapping.
