Broke a lengthy losing sequence when winning over fences at Stratford in March. Made track only 3 times since (once on the Flat) and cannot be recommended from 6 lb out of the weights.

Verdict

An open looking race to kick things off, in which ROYAL ENTOURAGE edges the vote. He produced a career best performance when striking over 2m4f at Musselburgh latest and is theoretically only 4lb higher today with Joanna Mason's claim taken into consideration. Dar Es Salaam got within half-a-length of winning under Rebecca Sparkes at Lingfield last time and has definite claims despite a 2lb rise, while Uttoxeter scorer On The Right Path certainly isn't out of it either.

Verdict

Three-time Flat winner Royal Entourage finally showed he can also strut his stuff over hurdles when scoring at Musselburgh last time, the clear-cut manner of that victory suggesting he can defy a 9 lb rise in the weights. Karmadice and Waltham Abbey make most appeal as each-way alternatives.

Verdict

A chance is taken on FLORA'S PRIDE. She has responded positively to the application of blinkers on her last couple of starts (worn again today) and can give another good account under talented 7lb claimer, Edmond Linehan. Shan Valley is of interest dropping back in trip having seemingly failed to get home over 3m at Newcastle last time, while Dane Cottage continues to creep down the handicap and is worthy of consideration in first-time cheekpieces.

Verdict

Wetherby winner Shan Valley had a valid excuse for her subsequent defeat and is worth another chance to show herself still on the up. Flora's Pride's fourth in a competitive race at Market Rasen reads well in the context of this, while Dane Cottage will also be on the premises if first-time cheekpieces see her bounce back to form.

Won handicap at Sedgefield a year ago and although yet to fire this time around, his stable is just starting to turn the corner and he has been given a chance by the assessor.

Verdict

SAVEIRO comfortably dispatched of Zazamix over this trip at Wetherby last Tuesday and, with Lucy Alexander's claim cancelling out the majority of his 7lb penalty, he will be well fancied to follow up. Andrew Crook's charge is just 2lb better off for an 8-length beating that day and will struggle to turn the tables, so it could be up to Gentleman Jeff, who narrowly missed out over C&D on his penultimate outing, to give the red-hot favourite most to think about.

Verdict

Saveiro improved when winning at Wetherby last week and looks to have a good chance of following up under his penalty. A more positive showing from Ice Image would not surprise and he can fill the placings along with Zazamix.

Modest maiden up to 1¾m on Flat. Signs of taking to hurdling when 9¼ lengths fourth to Schism at Leicester in December (final start for Harry Dunlop) but big step forward required to take this.

Verdict

This looks a match between the two past winners. Aland Islands has yet to taste defeat in a couple of NH starts and makes plenty of appeal being Tony McCoy's only mount on the card, but STAR IN FLIGHT edges the vote for Donald McCain. He won effortlessly over 2m here on his penultimate outing and would most likely have completed a C&D double but for unseating Jason Maguire at the second-last more recently. Of the others, Rosairlie appeals most.

Verdict

A good chance this will be dominated by previous winners Star In Flight and Aland Islands, the former taken to gain compensation for his late departure here last month with the race at his mercy. Flat recruit Raktiman may fare best of the rest.

Not taken long to match pick of fairly useful hurdling form over fences and although below best when second at Uttoxeter last time, claims if sharpened up by first-time cheekpieces.

Verdict

Stopped Out and Araucaria both continue to run well without winning, while Quel Ballistic appears to be having problems in the jumping department. The vote, therefore, goes to Evan Williams' Welsh raider BRUSLINI. He has run well in each of his three hurdle starts this term and is sure to have been well schooled prior to today's chasing debut. Western Bound won a couple of hurdle prizes at Perth last summer and, despite being the outsider here, he's no forlorn hope.

Verdict

A competitive race despite the small field, with a narrow vote going to Stopped Out who has been knocking on the door in similar races of late. Araucaria may prove the main danger.

Verdict

Neil King brings just one horse, THE RED LAIRD, on the 400-mile round trip from his Newmarket base and this offspring of Kayf Tara can pay for the petrol money. The selection made a pleasing reappearance when runner-up over this trip at Plumpton 29 days ago and he is entitled to strip fitter for that first start since February last year. Realmont sports first-time cheekpieces on his handicap debut and must be respected, while Carmela Maria won on both visits here in December.

Verdict

The Red Laird can repeat what he did last season and make his second start a winning one on the back of a promising reappearance at Plumpton. Ballymacduff appeals as a solid place prospect, while Azulada Bay could fare better now returned to hurdling.

Verdict

SPRING LANE showed a liking for decent ground when third in what looked an above-average bumper at Musselburgh last month and, forecast to get his favoured conditions again, he could prove difficult to beat under a talented pilot. Bhakti has struck the crossbar on both starts so far and should go close once again, while Gonow made an encouraging introduction here and has to be given a chance representing last year's winning connections.

Verdict

Bhakti sets a good standard on his seconds at Fontwell and Bangor and should prove hard to beat. Newcomers Backstage Lady and The Mongolian both appeal on paper and may provide the main threats.
